A Magnificent Cold - Nocturne (2018) EN

Sebastian Crugley best known as the driving force of the project called Alldrig has just released an album signed with his more nostalgic alias, A Magnificent Cold. "Nocturne" is filled with, obviously, night time music, neoclassical sounds with darker vibe.

The Argentinian created melancholy written with notes and poured it over the whole album.  The combination of piano keys and heavy sounding strings always sounds awesome, but Crugley added some of his magic that is audible on "Nocturne". Prepare tissues, turn off the lights and let this music/magic guide you.

Sebastian Crugley znany lepiej jako siła napędowa projektu Alldrig wydał właśnie płytę pod swoim bardziej nostalgicznym aliasem, A Magnificent Cold. "Nocturne" wypełniona jest oczywiście muzyką pasującą do nocnej pory, neoklasyką w jej mrocznej odmianie.

Argentyńczyk tworzy zapisaną nutami melancholię i wypełnił nią całą płytę. Połączenie klawiszy pianina i ciężko brzmiących smyczków zawsze brzmi dobrze, ale Crugley na swoim krążku naprawdę nimi czaruje. Trzeba więc przygotować sobie chusteczki, wyłączyć światło i dać się ponieść czarowi jego muzyki.

Velveteen Riot - She Rains Over Me (2018) EN

Scottish Velveeen Riots is a project fascinated by guitar music ranging from punk to shoegaze and combining dense guitars as seen in Slowdive with punk pugnacity of The Jesus And Mary Chain. The band has recently released a short EP proving their potential.

"She Rains Over Me" includes only three tracks but it doesn't matter they are not extremely interesting. The big deal of focus is set on the guitars, their sound occupies a lot of the tracks' time, sharing the stage with vocal. And this one can sound more airy ("Quietest Day") or almost punk("Disturb the Universe").

Another deal are the melodies, the writing of which is the best side of the Scots, perhaps the best one is the one in "Disturb the Universe". Power, guitars and melodies, just what the punk shoegaze should look like indeed.

Szkockie Velveeen Riots to projekt zafascynowany gitarową muzyką od punka po shoegaze, łączący gęste gitary rodem ze Slowdive z punkowym pazurem The Jesus And Mary Chain. Zespół wydał niedawno krótką EP-kę potwierdzającą ich potencjał. 

"She Rains Over Me" to jedynie trzy kawałki, są one jednak szalenie interesujące. Duży akcent położony jest na gitarowość muzyki, niedługie przecież utwory wypełnione są gitarami w znacznym stopniu tak, by dzieliły się muzyczną przestrzenią z wokalem. A ten potrafi brzmieć bardziej eterycznie ("Quietest Day") albo niemal punkowo ("Disturb the Universe").

Inną sprawą są melodie, których pisanie wychodzi Szkotom wyjątkowo dobrze, najlepiej we wspomnianym "Disturb the Universe". Pazur, gitary i melodie, tak jak powinien wyglądać punkowy shoegaze w rzeczy samej.

Potemtum And Solitude - Goodbye My Lover​!​.​.​. (2018) EN

Filled with a lot of darkness Colombian music, Potemtum and Solitude sparks in the audience the thrill of horror and the omnipresent feeling of melancholy at the same time. The musicians have just released an album called "Goodbye My Lover!..." and show that they evolved in a really interesting direction.

The project was born as a traditional black metal band over a decade ago. It was only after adding the guitarist Felipe Sanabria when they changed their sound towards their own genre they call "dream black metal". Apart from the particularly interesting touches like whispering vocals opening "Leave Me" or ghostly samples in "Lilian", this oneiric vision is achieved mostly with the sea of guitars that are not that aggressive and sharp as in a "normal" metal and are more likely to be called a blackgaze wall of sound.

But it doesn't change the fact that the whole album is soaked with the clear spirit of black metal visible in screaming vocals and insane drums. It has to be said that the artists can balance both approaches toward music almost perfectly.

Pełna mroku muzyka z Kolumbii, Potemtum and Solitude wznieca w słuchaczach dreszcz grozy i wszechogarniające uczucie melancholii naraz. Muzycy wydali właśnie płytkę "Goodbye My Lover!..." pokazującą, że wyewoluowali w bardzo ciekawym kierunku.

Projekt narodził się jako typowo black metalowa kapela ponad dekadę temu, dopiero z rozszerzeniem składu o gitarzystę Felipe Sanabrię, wykształcił on swoje własne brzmienie, które sami nazywają "dream black metalem". Poza ciekawymi zagraniami jak szeptany wokal na otwarcie "Leave Me", czy nawiedzone sample w "Lilian", ta oniryczność to przede wszystkim morze gitar, które nie są tak agresywne i szarpiące jak w typowym metalu, raczej idą w stronę blackgaze'owej ściany dźwięku. 

Nie zmienia to jednak faktu, że na całej płycie czuć wyraźnego ducha black metalu z krzykliwymi wokalami czy szaloną perkusją na czele. Trzeba jednak przyznać, że muzycy potrafili zbalansować te dwie dusze w sposób niemal idealny.

Mighty Bear - Einn (2018) EN

Sometimes it's enough to take a look at an artist's image and you are sure it's gonna be the next thing. This is the situation with Mighty Bear, new phenomenon of the Icelandic experimental scene. The artist combines the queer environment with mysterious, a bit dark electropop and spectacular performance.

After releasing two singles, it was time for a short EP called, naturally, "Einn" (or "One"). She proves right the impressive description of her music: "strutting onstage in a ghostly, glamorous mask to a soundtrack of intense but ethereal beats". The compositions here are rich but indeed, they have more from the not very fast, dim atmosphere of the island than from the orthodox clubbing music. The foreground is left for the beautiful vocal.

It renders Sigur Rós' Jónsi's vocals but perhaps all high-pitched voices in Icelandic sound similar for an unaccustomed ear. But there's little doubt that it's the part that, alongside the visual side, brings uniqueness to the project. There's also little doubt that Mighty Bear is going to be another big thing from the Island of Fire.

Czasem wystarczy zerknąć na wizerunek artysty by wiedzieć, że to będzie coś ważnego. Tak jest z Mighty Bear, nowym zjawiskiem na islandzkiej scenie eksperymentalnej. Artystka łączy środowiska queerowe z tajemniczym, nieco mrocznym electropopem i efektownym performansem.

Po wydaniu dwóch singli, przyszedł czas na krótką EP-kę zatytułowaną, naturalnie, "Einn" (czyli "Jeden"). Potwierdza na nim efektowne opisy swojej twórczości: "pojawia się w upiornej i olśniewającej masce w towarzystwie intensywnych ale i eterycznych bitów". Aranżacje są bogate, ale faktycznie mają w sobie dużo z niespiesznej, nieco mrocznej atmosfery wyspy niż z muzyki stricte klubowej. Na pierwszym planie pozostawia wokal.

A ten albo przypomina Jónsiego z Sigur Rós albo wszystkie wysokie głosy po islandzku brzmią podobnie dla niewprawnego ucha. Nie ulega wątpliwości, że to właśnie on, obok strony wizualnej, dodaje projektowi oryginalności. Wątpliwości nie ulega też, że Mighty Bear to będzie kolejna wielka rzecz z Wyspy Ognia.

Lost Echoes - The Things We Said EP (2018) EN

Lost Echoes is a bit garage shoegaze music from the American Portland. Looking up to all of the genre's big names and also to some artists known from this blog like Stargazer Lilies, Visiting Diplomats or 93millionmilesfromthesun, the quartet have released a short album filled with well-written, dense music.

The Americans are really good at creating great shoegaze with the easiest recipe, very catchy and not very complicated melody, melancholic lyrics about remembering and forgetting, and loud guitars (not to mention the obligatory references to losing and to reverbs in the name of the project!). This is how the biggest bands of the 90s made their way to fame and following them is absolutely a good idea. The EP forces you to hum it but also to reflect. After all, begging for not being forgotten is one of the most tearful moments in life.

Lost Echoes to nieco garażowy shoegaze z amerykańskiego Portland. Zapatrzony we wszystkie sławy gatunku, łącznie ze znanymi z tego bloga Stargazer Lilies, Visiting Diplomats czy 93millionmilesfromthesun, kwartet wydał króciutki album pełen znakomicie napisanego, gęstego grania.

Amerykanie mają dar tworzenia świetnego shoegaze'u według najprostszej recepty - bardzo chwytliwa a zarazem nieskomplikowana melodia, melancholijny tekst, najczęściej o pamięci i głośne gitary (nie mówiąc już o obowiązkowym nawiązaniu do straty i reverbów w nazwie projektu!). Tak sławę zyskiwali najwięksi w shoegaze'owym podziemiu lat 90. i podążanie ich drogą jest zdecydowanie udanym pomysłem. EP-ka nuci się sama, a zarazem zmusza do melancholijnej zadumy, w końcu błaganie o to, by druga osoba cię nie zapomniała jest jednym z najbardziej łzawych momentów w życiu.

Midwife - Prayer Hands (2018) EN

Midwife is comprised of the joined forces of Madeline Johnston (known as Sister Grotto) and Tucker Theodore under the Antiquated Future records. The two artists went to the miraculous world of slowcore shoegaze or, as the record house claims, drone pop. And it's great news because "Prayer Hands" makes a beautiful and super sad album, perfect for long evenings.

It combines the magic, noise atmosphere with Johnston's otherworldly vocals hidden somewhere in the backgrounds. This combination makes me thing of Grouper's music which is something perfectly in the halfway between dream pop and the shapeless but emotionally reach ambient. This is this kind of music in which guitars are more responsible for creating the atmosphere than melodies and the vocals are just another source of the delicate noise mixing with the rest of the music like tears in the rain.

Midwife to połączone siły Madeline Johnston (znanej jako Sister Grotto) i Tuckera Theodore'a pod szyldem Antiquated Future. Dwoje artystów weszło w cudowny świat slowcore'owego shoegaze'u lub, jak chce wytwórnia, drone popu. I znakomicie, bo "Prayer Hands" to przepiękna i przesmutna płyta idealna na długie wieczory.

Miesza się na nim magiczna, noise'owa atmosfera z nieziemskim wokalem Johnston schowanym gdzieś w tle. Ta kombinacja przypominająca chociażby muzykę Grouper jest czymś doskonale w połowie drogi między dream popem a pozbawionym formy, lecz emocjonalnie bogatym ambientem. Jest to muzyka, w której gitary tworzą bardziej atmosferę niż melodie, a wokal to kolejne źródło delikatnego noise'u mieszającego się z resztą muzyki jak łzy na deszczu.

Buenas Tardes, Comandante - I EP (2018) EN

Loud guitars and pop melodies, this is the music by the quartet from Bilbao, Buenas Tardes, Comandante. On the just released EP, they show those skills and make the audience want to look at their career closely.

The Basques' music combines the delicateness of dream pop vocals with clear and firm guitars sounding a little bit raw but still very much melodic. The songs are sung in Spanish which only adds up to the charm and brings some exotic feeling to it. Still, musically speaking, the band draw a lot from the best English-speaking bands of the shoegaze genre. You can hear it both in the louder tracks ("Fuero") and in the slower, more dream pop ballads ("Otra Vez"). Good debut.

Buenas Tardes, Comandante - I EP (2018) PL

Głośne gitary i popowe melodie, tak gra czwórka z hiszpańskiego Bilbao, Buenas Tardes, Comandante. Na wydanej waśnie EP-ce pokazują te umiejętności i zachęcają do bacznego przyglądania się ich działalności.

Muzyka Basków łączy łagodność dreampopowego wokalu ze zdecydowanymi gitarami brzmiącymi nieco surowo, ale wciąż melodyjnie. Piosenki śpiewane są po hiszpańsku, co dodaje uroku i nieco egzotyki, jednak muzycznie zespół czerpie z najlepszych wzorców anglojęzycznego shoegaze'u. Słychać to i w głośniejszych kawałkach ("Fuero") i wolniejszych, dreampopowych balladach ("Otra Vez"). Dobry debiut.

Voyage In Solitude - Last Train From The Hill EP (2018) EN

Voyage In Solitude is a one-man project by Derrick Lin, a musician from Hong Kong, that was created to "express the loneliness, helplessness, frustration" of people in this city. It is well matched with Lin's slow and loud guitar shoegaze. You can taste it on the artist's debut EP.

In Voyage In Solitude's music you can hardly find any entertaining melodies, the shoegaze here is dark and dense like a sea of magma with the fittingly peaceful but also poignant vocal. The raw guitars create the atmosphere of uncertainty and danger, no wonder Lin states that apart from shoegaze, the genres that inspired him most included post-rock and an atmospheric black metal (which is heard clearly in the dark "Abyss" with its black metal drums).

The artist knows a lot of tricks to create the dark atmosphere. Another one is the use of gloomy samples of spoken word in "Ticket to the Overworld" that balances between a peaceful music of hopelessness and elevated guitar choruses. This soundscape depicts well the whole, emotional and dark album by Lin.

Voyage In Solitude - Last Train From The Hill EP (2018) PL

Voyage In Solitude to projekt Derricka Lina, muzyka z Hong Kongu, który powstał by "wyrazić samotność, bezradność i frustrację" ludzi tam żyjących. Dobrze nadaje się do tego powolny i głośny gitarowy shoegaze Lina. Można go zakosztować na debiutanckiej EP-ce artysty.

W muzyce Voyage In Solitude próżno szukać rozrywkowych melodii, tutaj shoegaze jest mroczny i gęsty niczym morze lawy, do którego dopasowuje się spokojny ale również dobitny wokal. Surowe gitary dbają o nastrój niepewności i zagrożenia, nic dziwnego, że Lin przyznaje, że obok shoegaze'u inspirował go też post-rock oraz atmosferyczny black metal (słychać to przede wszystkim w mrocznym "Abyss" z jego blackmetalową perkusją).

Artysta ma sporo asów w rękawie jeśli chodzi o umiejętność tworzenia mrocznej atmosfery. Kolejnym z nich są ponure w wymowie sample z mówionym słowem słyszalne w "Ticket to the Overworld", które balansuje między spokojną muzyką beznadziei a podniosłymi, gitarowymi refrenami. Taka sceneria dobrze obrazuje cały, bogaty w emocje, mroczny album Lina.

Зацикленность - Disenchantment (2018) EN

The Russian Зацикленность release their albums in a very regular and systematic manner, already in January they were close to be posted about on this blog with their "Abasement" and now they are finally here due to the melancholic guitars filled album "Disenchantment". If you look for an instrumental music to cry to, the Perm based project delivers.

What else could be expected from a band who on their account quotes Kant writing about loneliness and disappointments as a price for divinity. Also the tracks here are entitled as the corresponding states of a human being, apart from the already mentioned, also mediocrity or dependency. This theme is also present in the music - there is hardly any of aggressive pace changing or soul-crashing noise, it's more about building long, repetitive sections that evoke more likely melancholy and gloom withing the audience. And there's no doubt that was precisely the goal, especially when you get to one of the touchingly sad samples with some monologue in Russian.

The album is decorated with a beautiful art that is not really fitting the content though. Because the album is more about losing the illusion of the point in existing and about disappointment over life. But if you turn the blind eye to this incontinence, you can enjoy the music a lot. PS: a disclaimer, this is not a soundtrack to the new cartoon by Matt Groening.

Зацикленность - Disenchantment (2018) PL

Rosyjskie Зацикленность wydaje kolejne płyty w bardzo regularny i systematyczny sposób, już w styczniu byli blisko bloga albumem "Abasement", teraz w końcu na niego trafili dzięki wypełnionemu melancholijnymi gitarami "Disenchantment". Jeśli poszukujesz instrumentalnej muzyki do płakania, to projekt z Permu tego właśnie dostarcza.

Czego innego można się jednak było spodziewać po zespole, który na swojej stronie cytuje Kanta pisząc o samotności i rozczarowaniu jako cenie za boskość. Także kolejne ścieżki nazwane są odpowiednimi stanami człowieka, poza powyższymi, również przeciętnością czy zależnością. Do motywu przewodniego płyty dostosowuje się muzyka - brak w niej agresywnych zmian tempa czy niszczącego hałasu, kompozycje zbudowane są na długich, monotonnych sekcjach wywołujących raczej melancholię i przygnębienie w słuchaczach. I nie ma wątpliwości, że właśnie o to chodziło muzykom, zwłaszcza, gdy natrafi się na jeden z przejmująco smutnych sampli ze zmęczonym monologiem po rosyjsku.

Płyta ozdobiona jest piękną grafiką, która jednak średnio łączy się z treścią utworów. Bo ta mówi raczej o odarciu ze złudzeń co do egzystencji i rozczarowaniu życiem. Jeśli jednak przymkniemy oko na tę niekonsekwencję, album broni się muzyką. PS: disclaimer, nie jest to soundtrack do nowej kreskówki Matta Groeninga.

Dawnlit - True North (2018) EN

"We are the nicest metal band you will ever meet", that's not your ordinary band ad, but yet, this is how the American Dawnlit describe themselves. It doesn't change a tiny thing about their music though, their massive post-rock is not less breath-taking because of that. You can have its taste with the band's new album "True North".

The five-piece project from Utah play very traditional, if there's such a thing, post-instrumental post-rock. Full of rock riffs and thick, guitar backgrounds. It doesn't mean they don't use light piano keys whenever they are needed. And so in "We Are Creating It, We Are Conjuring It" stanzas are made of delicate but also lively keyboard while the chorus overflows with loud guitars. The further you go, the more it is so, for example "Syncline Loop" shows the perfect balance between the beauty of keys and the noise of guitars. Very well done.

Dawnlit - True North (2018) PL

"Najmilszy metalowy zespół, jaki spotkasz", nie często słyszy się taką reklamę, a jednak, amerykańskie Dawnlit tak o sobie mówią. Niczego nie zmienia to w kwestii ich muzyki, masywny post-rock w ich wykonaniu nie jest w żaden sposób mniej zapierający dech w piersiach. Słychać to na nowej płycie zespołu, "True North".

Piątka z Utah gra tradycyjny, jeśli jest coś takiego, instrumentalny post-rock. Pełen rockowych riffów i gęstego, gitarowego tła. Nie przeszkadza im to jednak w dodawaniu jasnych klawiszy, gdy wymaga tego sytuacja. I tak w "We Are Creating It, We Are Conjuring It" zwrotki to delikatna ale i żywa melodia na keyboardzie, która jednak pożerana jest przez głośne gitary w refrenach. Zresztą im dalej w las tym lepiej pod tym względem i "Syncline Loop" pokazuje znakomity balans między klawiszową urodą a gitarowym hałasem.

Scale & Feather - Sonora (2018) EN

Scale & Feather, one-person project from Arizona, on its first release gives us a lift to the hot atmosphere of the New Territories. And it's done with loud and crushing post-rock.

Sonora is a state in the North Mexico, south from California, so the cover art and the whole south US vibe is really justified. The track titles don't leave any doubts either, the project is heavily rooted in this geographical area (the most interesting one is the last track's title which is also a date of the famous shoot-out in Tombstone). Also musically speaking, the artist knows what he's doing as he plays guitar post-rock in this massive, coarse and somehow slowly developing way of the sunny Arizona's heavy rock.

It gets even more interesting when the artist starts heading towards shoegaze in "The Way Of The Palo Verde" adding to the music some vocals lost somewhere under the instruments and sounding quiet and helplessly, like shouting in a dessert.

Scale & Feather, jednoosobowy projekt z Arizony na swoim nowym wydawnictwie funduje nam wycieczkę w gorące klimaty Nowych Terytoriów. A robi to za pomocą głośnego i przygniatającego post-rocka.

Sonora to stan na północy Meksyku graniczący między innymi z Kalifornią, tak więc cover art i cały vibe południa Stanów jest jak najbardziej usprawiedliwiony. Tytuły poszczególnych utworów też nie pozostawiają wątpliwości, że projekt jest silnie ukorzeniony w tym właśnie miejscu (uwagę zwraca zwłaszcza ostatni utwór, którego tytułem jest data słynnej strzelaniny w Tombstone). Również muzycznie artysta wczuwa się w swoją rolę grając gitarowy post-rock w masywny, szorstki i jakby powolnie rozkręcający się sposób, przypominając skąpany w słońcu Arizony amerykański heavy rock.

Interesująco robi się, gdy artysta zbacza nieco w stronę shoegaze'u w "The Way Of The Palo Verde" dodając do muzycznego zestawu zagubiony bardzo głęboko pod instrumentami wokal brzmiący cicho i bezradnie jak wołanie na pustyni.

American Native - Specular Fiction (2018) EN

Straight from Texas, a new dose of American shoegaze, this time from "American Native". The band have just released their second album, full of entertaining but also atmospheric music.

"Specular Fiction" is an album comprising of several shoegazing songs with characteristic, very much, even for shoegaze, disperse vocal. Light tracks are lined with clear but not so loud after all guitars that manage to produce some great and catchy melodies. One of the best ones would be the one in "Travel Time" or in the almost punk-like guitars in "Made to Blame".

However, the band didn't release the album only to make the audience subtly sway. After some psychedelic short interludes comes a longer one in "I.J.S.T.O.A.T.S.W." that is one chaotic and filled with non-obviousness post-rock music. It divides two parts of the album, the second one is a come back of the entertaining, a bit lo-fi and surf-rock sound.

Prosto z Teksasu, nowa dawka amerykańskiego shoegaze'u, tym razem od "American Native". Zespół wydał właśnie drugą płytę pełną rozrywkowego i zarazem atmosferycznego grania.

"Specular Fiction" to płyta, na którą składają się shoegaze'owe kompozycje z charakterystycznym, rozproszonym w bardzo dużym stopniu wokalem. Lekkie utwory podszyte są wyrazistymi chociaż nie aż tak głośnymi gitarami, które świetnie dają sobie radę w wygrywaniu wpadających w ucho melodii. Znakomicie brzmi tutaj zwłaszcza "Travel Time", czy zagrana na prawie punkowych gitarach "Made to Blame".

Jednak zespół nie wydał swojej płyty jedynie by łagodnie kołysać. Po kilku krótkich psychodelicznych przerywnikach pojawia się wreszcie dłuższy w "I.J.S.T.O.A.T.S.W." czyli pełne chaosu i nieoczywistości post-rockowe granie. Oddziela on dwie części płyty, druga to powrót do do rozrywkowego, nieco lo-fi'owego i surf-rockowego grania.

MNSK - Ubnar Masnav (2018) EN

Duet made of French musicians known as Ob Nubil and Xtsxkx (or Etsuko) has released its first album signed as MNSK. Not particularly long "Ubnar Masnav" is stuffed with guitar-electronic energy that speaks really well about the musicians' future career.

MNSK's music is a fascinating mix of noise and electronics. Raging guitars are very raw, not smooth unlike in most of the post-rock bands. While the form of the songs is provided by electronic samples and fat beats. This makes the album sound like really futuristic post-rock that doesn't care about the audience's tastes, just wants to blow some steam of.

it's easier to do with the industrial atmosphere of the album that binds together those post-rock-electronic-trip-hop experiments. The interesting fact is that perhaps the most interesting track on the album is the interlude entitled "The Lodge" serving the omnipresent noise with trip-hop rhythm stemming out of it.

"Ubnar Masnav" can be yours for whatever you pay.

Duet muzyków z Francji znanych jako Ob Nubil i Xtsxkx (albo Etsuko) wydał swój pierwszy album pod szyldem MNSK. Niedługi "Ubnar Masnav" wypakowany jest gitarowo-elektroniczną energią jak najbardziej dobrze wróżącą dalszej karierze artystów.

Muzyka MNSK to fascynująca mieszanina noise'u i elektroniki. Przesterowane gitary są bardziej surowe i szarpiące, niewygładzone tak jak w większości post-rockowych projektów, natomiast formy nadają im elektroniczne sample i grube bity. Przez to album brzmi jak futurystyczny post-rock niepatrzący specjalnie na gusta, a raczej pragnący jedynie wyzwolić kumulowaną energię.

Pomaga w tym industrialny klimat płyty spajający te post-rockowo-elektroniczno-trip-hopowe eksperymenty. Co ciekawe, chyba najciekawszym kawałkiem jest interludium zatytułowane "The Lodge" z wszechogarniającym noise'em i wyrastającym z niego trip-hopowym rytmem.

"Ubnar Masnav" można mieć za ile się chce.

The Beremy Jets - Careless (2018) EN

Listening to this new album from Sweden makes you realize how much good noise can be creater in a one-man project. Created and lead by Paul Saarnak, drummer in Slowmotion Club and LKWRM, The Beremy Jets means massive and really loud shoegaze music, no wonder that the artist's motto says "maximum volume yields maximum results".

The album welcomes us with guitar haze. Saarnak's compositions are soaked with it from their beginnings up to the ends and there's also thick bass the melodies are built upon and loud guitars. Perhaps hidden somewhere underneath vocals is not the new Rachel Goswell but together with noisy instruments it sounds good enough.

Saarnak's tracks are characterized by high pace when the compositions develop and loud, extremely shoegaze finishes poured all over the space like a guitar noise see, it's best heard in the fascinating "My Team Lost Again" or sounding like some of RIDE's songs"Shut Up Forever". And I can't skip the really pretty cover art.

Słuchanie tej nowej płyty ze Szwecji uświadamia jak dużo dobrego hałasu może powstać w jednoosobowym projekcie. Założony i prowadzony przez Paula Saarnaka, perkusistę Slowmotion Club i LKWRM, The Beremy Jets to masywne i naprawdę głośne shoegaze'owe granie, nic dziwnego, że motto muzyka brzmi "maksymalna głośność przynosi maksymalne rezultaty".

Na płycie wita nas gitarowa mgła. Kompozycje Saarnaka są w niej skąpane od początku do końca, a do tego dochodzi bardzo gruby bas, na którym oparte są melodie i głośne gitary. Być może schowany gdzieś za nimi wokal nie jest nową Rachel Goswell, ale w towarzystwie hałasliwych instrumentów brzmi naprawdę dobrze. 

Utwory Saarnaka charakteryzują się wysokim tempem, gdy kompozycja się rozwija i głośnymi, niezwykle shoegaze'owymi finiszami z rozlanym morzem gitarowego hałasu, najlepiej słychać to w fascynującym "My Team Lost Again" czy brzmiącym nieco jak któryś z kawałków RIDE - "Shut Up Forever". No i trzeba dodać naprawdę urodziwy cover art.

Edelveiss - Skull (2018) EN

Edelveiss is a band from Montreal that specialize in instrumental but also electronics-soaked post-rock. Their first EP has existed for over a decade now but still "Skull" feels a little bit like a new debut.

This short EP still allowed the Canadians for what they like most - atmosphere building. This process is especially seen in "Omen II" that functions as a sort of an introduction to the main course. Although the artists don['t hesitate to use guitars, a really important part of their music belongs to ambient-electronic backgrounds that make the audience dissolve into their compositions. The electronics also can step up to the foreground as it does with the space sounds in "The Third Sister".

This track is one great waiting for an explosion which... doesn't come. The ever growing noise in the background and marching drums are misleading because instead of a loud finish, we get a sudden change of mood to a more melodic one. You can;t be certain of anything with Edelveiss as the last track, "Walking Around The Owl", sometimes is rock-esque, sometimes more industrial and sometimes exceptionally atmospheric.

Edelveiss - Skull (2018) PL

Edelveiss to zespół z kanadyjskiego Montrealu specjalizujący się w instrumentalnym i przesyconym elektroniką post-rocku. Ich pierwsza EP-ka zaistniała już ponad dekadę temu, a mimo to "Skull" to trochę jak ponowny debiut.

Krótka EP-ka wciąż pozwoliła Kanadyjczykom na to, co lubią najbardziej: budowanie klimatu. Ten proces widać przede wszystkim w "Omen II" będącym swojego rodzaju intrem do głównego dania. Mimo, że artyści nie szczędzą gitar to bardzo ważną rolę w ich muzyce odgrywają ambientowo-elektroniczne tła pozwalające zatracić się słuchaczom w kompozycjach. Elektronika wchodzi też na pierwszy plan, jak przy kosmicznych dźwiękach towarzyszących "The Third Sister".

Utwór ten jest jednym wielkim czekaniem na wybuch. Narastający noise w tle oraz marszowa perkusja okazują się jednak zwodnicze bo zamiast hałaśliwego finału mamy gwałtowną zmianę klimatu na bardziej melodyjny. Z Edelveiss niczego nie można być pewnym bo zamykający płytę "Walking Around The Owl" jest na przemian rockowy, industrialny i fantastycznie klimatyczny.

I Tpame I Tvrame - Ikin Vijnë (2018) EN

Both the catchiest and the dreamiest band of Albania come back to Łabandzi Śpiew. Since "Future Attitude", the musicians managed to release an EP "Altered" only to come back now with another long play called "Ikin Vijnë" and show the world their electronic shoegaze.

The title of the album means literally "Come on". And fittingly, "Ikin Vijnë" seems to be more mature and better written, as if the duet Franc Kurti and Dina Hajrullahu wanted to show the world that they are ready to be included into the European first league of electronic music. It's visible even in the cover art that combines the Balkan past with the present times in an intrigue way, the history and minimalism.

The best part of I Tpame I Tvrame's music is the way they build up tension and atmosphere of danger that cannot be ignored. It's audible both in the ghostly "Who You Used To Be" or unsettlingly true "Sin" based on thick bass line and short vocals phrases. But not only, the whole album is made with this on mind, plus the diverse, sometimes more atmospheric, sometimes more danceable music and melancholic, emotion-deprived vocals by Hajrullahu.

Najbardziej przebojowy a zarazem eteryczny zespół Albanii powraca na Łabandzi Śpiew. Od "Future Attitude" muzycy zdążyli wydać EP-kę "Altered" by teraz powrócić z długogrającym "Ikin Vijnë" i pokazać światu swój elektroniczny shoegaze.

Tytuł albumu oznacza ni mniej ni więcej a "Naprzód". I tak "Ikin Vijnë" wydaje się być dojrzalsze i jeszcze lepiej napisane, tak jakby duet Franc Kurti i Dina Hajrullahu chciał pokazać, że jest gotowy na wejście do pierwszej ligi europejskiej elektroniki. Widać to już po okładce, która w pasjonujący sposób łączy bałkańską przeszłość z teraźniejszością współczesnego świata, historia i minimalizm.

Siłą muzyki I Tpame I Tvrame jest budowanie napięcia i niedającej się zignorować atmosfery zagrożenia. Słychać to zarówno w upiornym "Who You Used To Be" czy choćby niepokojąco prawdziwym "Sin" zbudowanym na grubym basie i krótkich frazach. Ale nie tylko tam, cały album stworzony jest z tym na myśli, a przy okazji z różnorodną, czasem bardziej klimatyczną, czasem bardziej taneczną, warstwą muzyczną i melancholijnym, oszczędnym w emocje wokalu Hajrullahu.
