:NotGeese: Signal From Europa - Dusty Monuments (2016) EN
The family of post-rock bands whose name is generated according to the sth-from-sth pattern (Tides From Nebula, Gifts From Enola) and gives an impression of something connected to the cosmos (yes, I know, Enola Gay was the name of the plane that delivered the atomic bomb to Hiroshima but still, this event was of cosmological importance) got bigger thanks to the Gdańsk-based Signal From Europa. Not only do they match the names and complete the weird, epic poem/nursery song, their music is equally good too.
Inspired by the sci-fi classic - "2001: Space Odyssey" and the post-rock classics (not mentioned by their names but it's an easy guess) they present us with absolutely interesting music. Apart from their ability to draw space soundscapes and balance between the atmospheric and the loud they are also really good at something else: they agree the cosmic ambiance of their music with clearly guitar-based music - no electronics, no keys, pure strings. But still it's clear that no-one will hear you scream.
"Dusty Monuments"was recorded in Studio 147 and it's available for only 2.31 EUR (10 PLN).

Do rodziny post-rockowych kolektywów, których nazwa wygenerowana jest według schematu "coś z czegoś" (Tides From Nebula, Gifts from Enola) i pachnie przestrzenią kosmiczną (tak, wiem, Enola Gay to samolot, który dostarczył bombę atomową nad Hiroszimę ale to zdarzenie też było dość kosmicznej wagi) dołączył w tym roku zespół z Gdańska. Nie dość, że pasuje nazwą i wieńczy ten dziwny, epicki poemat skrzyżowany z dziecięcą wyliczanką, to nie odbiega zupełnie muzycznie.
Inspirowani klasyką sci-fi - "2001: Odyseją Kosmiczną" i klasyką post-rockowego grania (nie wymienionego z nazwy ale nietrudno zgadnąć o kogo może chodzić) prezentują szalenie ciekawy materiał. Poza umiejętnym kreśleniem kosmicznych krajobrazów i balansowaniem między nastrojowością a hałasem rzuca się umiejętność pogodzenia bez wątpienia, jak pisałem, kosmiczności muzyki wyraźnie gitarowym charakterem kompozycji. Nie ma tu elektroniki i klawiszowych pasaży, ogłuszającą ciszę przestrzeni zagrano na strunach i wzmacniaczach. A mimo to czuć, że nikt nie usłyszy jak krzyczysz.
"Dusty Monuments" nagrano w Studio 147, a dostać album można za jedyne 10 złotych.

The Best Pessimist - The Half-World (2015) EN
The best pessimist comes from Odessa, Ukraine and looks as if he started doing his music when he got bored with symphonic metal riffs. Or viking reconstruction. Or modelling. His name is Sergey Lunev, his band consists of three other musicians, and they all combine piano with clearly electronic ambient with post-rock elements. And every one of the elements is extremely noticeable.
Lunev's inspirations include The American Dollar, French Teen Idol and Mono, although the last one maybe just for their mysticism in music. And this music tells the stories about broken hearts and goodbyes - you can feel it in every note, every beat and every sudden silence. Now you should put a long black coat on and go out with TBP's music in your ears into the autumn darkness. And try not to think too much.

Najlepszy pesymista pochodzi z Odessy na Ukrainie i wygląda jakby za ambient zabrał się przypadkiem, gdy znudziły mu się symfoniczno-metalowe ostre riffy. Albo wikińska rekonstrukcja. Albo modelling. Nazywa się Siergiej Łunew,a towarzyszy mu trzech muzyków, którzy wszyscy łączy grę na pianinie z mocno elektronicznym ambientem i elementami post-rocka. I wszystko to bardzo, bardzo wyraźnie słychać.
Inspiracje Łunewa obejmują The American Dollar, French Teen Idol i Mono, chociaż ci ostatni to chyba za mistyczną atmosferę zawartą w muzyce. A muzyka ta opowiada o złamanych sercach i rozstaniach, można to poczuć w każdej nutce, w każdym elektronicznym bicie czy niespodziewanej ciszy. Należy teraz ubrać długi czarny płaszcz i wyjść z muzyką TBP na uszach w nasz polski jesienny mrok. I starać się za dużo nie myśleć.
Mam nadzieję, że spotkam się z jego muzyką dziś w nocy we śnie.

DakhaBrakha & Port Mone - Khemleva Project (2012) EN
DakhaBrakha is surely widely known among Polish fans of alternative folk music, especially since their legendary concert during OFF Festival in 2014. But for me Ukrainian music is first of all them. DB is three ladies and one gentleman from Kiev, Port Mone, a vital part of "Khemleva Project" is three artists from Belarus playing instrumental mix of jazz and ambient with bass guitar and accordion. It appears that they are the perfect music partner for DB.
Perhaps that is why the album mesmerizes with the very first sounds. Rhythmical and looped backgrounds are a match for folk chanting by the Kovalenko, Garenetska, Tsybulska trio. Traditional instruments solo parts catch attention and, as they are supposed to, release the hypnotic spell while the way the songs are constructed are quite modern. A real folk music masterpiece, which is actually something more. Waiting for the next concert in Poland!
"Khemleva Project" was recorded in Toyastudios in Poland and it was mastered by Tomasz Sikora of Hermetic Garage label.
