Gruppe Planet - Travel to Uncertain Grounds (2020) EN

Gruppe Planet is a German post-rock band that, although its members have already a lot of music experience, is debuting now with an LP, as far as I can tell. And you could safely say that Travel to Uncertain Grounds has everything to be called at least a good release.

It starts with a slowly developing post-rock epopee in the title track Travel to Uncertain Grounds. Tons of atmosphere that's built by the long intro and finally the explosion of the loud finale that maybe not crushing the spines but leaves a good impression at least. Next tracks are more coarse guitar-like, being ruled by more classic metal guitar riffs or dominating drums that both are, however, slightly covered by the omnipresent semi-darkness mood.

The album has the moments of being close to atmospheric post-rock while in some other there are oldschool metal or hard rock inspirations easier to spot, like in Bullhead. Needless to say, I prefer the former. Or the ones that combine both worlds like the impressive finish in Mirai.

Gruppe Planet to niemiecka formacja post-rockowa, która, chociaż jej członkowie mają spore muzyczne doświadczenie, dopiero, jeśli dobrze rozumiem, debiutuje krążkiem długogrającym. I trzeba przyznać, że Travel to Uncertain Grounds ma wszelki zadatki na co najmniej dobre wydawnictwo.

Zaczyna się ono od bardzo wolno rozwijającej się post-rockowej epopei w tytułowym Travel to Uncertain Grounds. Tona atmosfery, którą buduje długie intro w końcu wybucha w głośnym finale, który nie zmiata z powierzchni ziemi ale z pewnością robi wrażenie. Następne kawałki są zdecydowanie bardziej chropowato-gitarowe, tak że królują albo bardziej klasycznie metalowe dźwięki gitar, albo dominująca perkusja, które są jednak trochę skryte pod wszechobecną atmosferą półmroku.

Płyta ma momenty, w których bliżej jej do atmosferycznego post-rocka podczas gdy w innych wyraźnie słychać bliskie inspiracje oldschoolowym metalem tudzież hard rockiem, choćby w Bullhead. Najbardziej podobają mi się te pierwsze, bez wątpienia. Albo takie łączące oba światy jak efektowny finisz w Mirai.
