Blushing - Possessions (2022)

The Texas-based Blushing debuted (world-wide but also on my blog) with their brilliant EP Tether back in 2017. Now, 6 years (!) later, they released the sophomore album Possessions, making sure that they should be counted as one of the big nugaze/dream pop bands out there these days.

As the canons want it, the noisy pop from the Americans involves huge amounts of reverbs, guitar noise and soft vocals. But their new release is also catchier and more psychedelic than what I associate the band with. The high-paced tracks go on and on with upbeat tunes and catchy riffs, making your body involuntarily dance to the guitar psychedelia they offer. This makes me think of a lighter, dreamier version of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart that is able to write captivating melodies and drown them in the ethereal atmosphere with ease - both in the faster hits and the slightly slower, very much psychedelic compositions like Gel.

Undoubtedly, a big thing for the band is the cooperation with Lush's Miki Berenyi; the icon's guest vocals (together with unorthodox backing vocals) made Blame one of the more memorable shoegaze song of the beginning of the year. Really well-balanced, top-of-the-shelf release.

Składający się z dwóch małżeństw (Christiny i Noego Carmonów oraz Michelle i Jake'a Sotów) teksański zespół debiutował już na blogu wraz ze swoimi pierwszym wydawnictwem Tether. Miło patrzeć jak się rozwijają, co słychać na ich pierwszym długogrającym albumie zatytułowanym po prostu Blushing.

Bardzo dzikie i surowe gitary tworzą tutaj psychodeliczne, noise popowe kompozycje potrafiące być zarówno powolnymi, przesterowanymi balladami jak i wciągającymi, energetycznymi kawałkami psychodelicznego popu (w świetnych Dream Merchants czy Control na przykład). Wokal Carmony, mającej za sobą profesjonalną edukację, jest właściwie delikatny i odpowiednio eteryczny, a linia basowa nieraz dominuje w zaskakujący sposób. 

Blushing dzisiaj pokazuje brzmienie typowe dla eterycznego, psychodelicznego shoegaze'u z południowych stanów US. A typowe tutaj nie jest żadna ujmą, gdy tworzy się takie kawałki jak Dream Merchants czy Sunshine.

Blushing - Blushing (2019) EN

Consisting of two marriages (Christina and Noe Carmona and Michelle and Jake Soto) Texas-based band debuted on the blog with their first release Tether. It's a pleasure to watch them developing on their first long play simply called Blushing.

Very wild and raw guitars create here psychedelic, noise pop compositions that can be either ballads or engaging, energetic psychedelic pop tracks (in the great Dream Merchants or Control for example). Carmona's vocal and she's been musically educated which shows, is fittingly delicate and accordingly airy while the bass line very often surprisingly dominates the whole compositions.

Today's Blushing offers the sound typical for the airy, psychedelic shoegaze from the southern US. And being typical here is no dishonour when you create songs such as Dream Merchants or Sunshine.

Apparently the end of a year should involve some rocking. Well then, why not say farewell to the 2016 with a hit? The first hit of the next year - a debut album by Texas-based Blushing. And to be more exact, with the opening track of the EP - "Teteher", a song I hum for a week now.

Blushing have everything to become something in the rocking world of shoegaze - a suitable guitar temper, catchy melodies and sweet and airy voice of Christina Carmona. And even a great and fitting name - if you check the link to their Bandcamp it says "weareblushing", are they blushing after an ecstatic concert or because of they are introvert artists, like true shoegazers should be? I'd bet on both answers to be true.

Zakończenie roku musi podobno być przebojowe. No nic, czemu by nie pożegnać 2016 z przytupem? A najlepiej pierwszym przebojem przyszłego roku - debiutem Teksańczyków z Blushing. A dokładniej tytułowym i otwierającym epkę "Tether", którego nie przestaję nucić od tygodnia. 

Blushing mają wszystko żeby zaistnieć w świecie przebojowego shoegaze'u - odpowiedni gitarowy temperament, chwytliwe melodie i słodko-eteryczny głos Christiny Carmony na wokalu. A nawet wspaniale dobraną i sugestywną nazwę - jeśli spojrzycie na link do Bandcampu brzmi on "we are blushing" - "jesteśmy Blushing" tudzież "rumienimy się". Czy rumienią się po ekstatycznym koncercie czy dlatego, że są introwertycznymi artystami jak na shoegazerów przystało? Obstawiam, że obie odpowiedzi są poprawne.
