RAKTA - FALHA COMUM (2019) EN

Another band Poland got to know through Soundrive Festival that appears on the blog this week because of a new album. This time it's the madly impressive and madly mad Brasilians of Rakta showing the album called FALHA COMUM with its eclectic mixture of everything that's interesting.

Exotic folk atmosphere of the band's music is perfectly combined with the noise aesthetic, tribal drums and diffused vocals. Sometimes it turns out to be scary (the witch-like, crying ending of 笑笑,  ironically translating to "smile") and sometimes just energetic (Fil do Mundo). Energy is what the Brazilians definitely do not lack, same as those unique ideas for their music that can't even be described. Especially when it gets all about drums, the characteristic trait of the band, as in the album's final track Ruina.

Girių Dvasios - Ratu (2015) EN

Getting back to the small stage hidden in a forest of Mėnuo Juodaragis, the Lithuanian Music festival. This time, the dark night is torn apart by the electronic music of Girių Dvasios. "Electronic" is kind of a broad term - the artist's music combines elements of ambient and dub with Lithuanian folk. Greasy backgrounds and pulsating beats match surprisingly well with looped ethno vocals. The choires, namely Trys Keturiose and Kūlgrinda, sing "sutartinės", the very essence of the Baltic folk - repetetive and trance providing chanting.

Girių Dvasios literally means "spirits of the forest" and it actually fully describes the DJ's work. If witch doctors were to dance around bon fires today getting high with smoke and rhythmical music, they'd do it to music of the Lithuanian artist. Above you there are treetops swinging, around you there are your brothers and sisters swaying with burning eyes and your feet just can't wait and have to dance. What are you going to do?

Powracam na małą, schowaną w lesie scenę na litewskim festiwalu Mėnuo Juodaragis. Tym razem ciemna noc rozrywana jest elektroniką Girių Dvasios. Elektronika to trochę ogólnik - muzyka artysty łączy ambienty i dub z litewskim folkiem. Tłuste podkłady i pulsujące bity pasują zadziwiająco perfekcyjnie do zapętlonych etno zaśpiewów. Chóry, dokładniej grupy Trys Keturiose i Kūlgrinda, wyśpiewują "sutartinės", esencję bałtyckiego folku - monotonną i wprawiającą w trans.

Girių Dvasios oznacza "leśne duchy" i to w zasadzie wyczerpująco opisuje twórczość didżeja. Gdyby szamani tańczyli dzisiaj wokół ognisk, narkotyzując się dymem i rytmiczną muzyką robiliby to do dźwięków Litwina. Nad wami kołyszą się korony drzew, wokół wirują wasi bracia i siostry z rozpalonymi oczami, a nogi rwą wam się do tańca. Co robicie?
