DDENT - Ex Auditu (2023)

Three years after their last full-length album, the French post-rockers Louis Lambert of DDENT is back. This time, it's only a short EP, but it's always a treat to listen to their well-written instrumental music.

The EP called Ex Auditu, according to its Spotify title at least, may only be the first part of some longer whole and it's something to keep in mind. In those three tracks, Lambert included a whole lot of dense and heavy post-rock atmosphere that is mainly created by the loud, but not too loud, guitar sounds. It pairs well with the overall slow pace that makes the whole thing feel more monumental and overwhelming. And this atmosphere leads the compositions from softer, calmer fragments towards very heavy ones, including the very metal-like last seconds of Vale. I can't wait for more of this music, potentially Ex Auditu part 2?

DDENT, a very underhyped French band, have just released their third album Couvre-sang. I'm a fan of their ecstatic and eclectic post-rock and the new album only proved me right.

The band's music presents quite a lot of metal influences (the rapidness, drums, sometimes also guitars) and it only adds up to the colourfulness of the whole. The post-rock compositions show the genre's good level but still the coolest thing is what happens "around". So we've got a lot of electronics, the already mentioned post-metal fragments, folk inspirations (great Volemie). The drive towards the experimental is only emphasized by the interludia between the most important fragments, quite an easy thing to do but gives a lot.

Still, the most important thing in this genre is the quality of the generated noise. It's enough to listen to tracks such as Puissancerevee or Souvenirsdematieres to find out that the French have all the necessary know-how here. Their music is massive but also ecstatic and letting the audience fly high above ground and it's not an easy thing to do. Nor is the... neoclassical finish in Voile. Another great album by the band.

DDENT - Couvre-sang (2020) PL

Bardzo niedoceniany francuski zespół DDENT wydał właśnie swój trzeci album Couvre-sang. Jestem fanem ich ekstatycznego i eklektycznego post-rocka, a nowy album tylko mnie w tym utwierdził.

Muzyka zespołu ma w sobie bardzo dużo z metalu (zrywność, perkusja, niekiedy gitary) co jeszcze bardziej ją ubarwia. Post-rockowe kompozycje to solidny poziom gatunku, ale i tak najfajniejsze jest to, co "wokół" nich się dzieje. Mamy wiec sporo elektroniki, wspomniany post-metalowe fragmenty, folkowe inspiracje (świetne Volemie). Eksperymentalne ciągotki artystów potęgują jeszcze interludia między co ważniejszymi kawałkami - niby prosty zabieg a jednak bardzo dużo wnosi.

Najważniejsze jednak w takiej muzyce jest jakość generowanego hałasu. Wystarczy przesłuchać sobie takie kawałki jak Puissancerevee czy Souvenirsdematieres żeby przekonać się, ze Francuzi wiedzą na czym to polega. Ich muzyka jest masywna ale też ekstatyczna i pozwalająca fruwać słuchaczom wysoko nad ziemią, a nie jest to proste do skonstruowania. Tak jak i... neoklasyczny finisz w Voile. Kolejny świetny krążek zespołu.

DDENT, the four-pieces band from Paris, playing post-rock so heavy that their name has to be written in capital letters to hold it, has released their new, incapacitating album (the title of which is, naturally, in capitals as well). Louis, Marc, Nico and Vinz threw a real feast involving massive guitar sounds and tons of unsettling atmosphere.

Honestly, each and every of their tracks makes a huge dose of smashing sounds, each and every one of them is a long, complex symphony of apocalyptic atmosphere (surprisingly, the best one here is the shortest track of the album, "Dis à la lune qu'elle vienne", that is finished in an epic, massive way). The compositions are diverse, some fragments are really unexpected like almost electronically set pace in the first part of "Torse de marbre", however it is mostly traditional, heavy, almost post-metal music.

The most important feature of the band is the way they build up their compositions, even their longest tracks don't get boring (even in the slower fragments, as in "Torse de marbre") and don't kill the audience with too much of noise. The listener just can't wait to find out what will happen in a moment.

DDENT, paryski kwartet grający post-rock tak ciężki, że nazwa zespołu musi być pisana wyłącznie wielkimi literami, wydał nową, obezwładniającą płytę (której tytuł, naturalnie, pisany jest tak samo). Louis, Marc, Nico i Vinz zorganizowali prawdziwą ucztę składającą się z masywnych gitarowych dźwięków i tony niepokojącej atmosfery. 

W zasadzie każdy ich utwór to pokaźna dawka wgniatających w ziemię dźwięków, każdy z nich jest długą, złożoną symfonią apokaliptycznego nastroju (o dziwo, przoduje tutaj najkrótszy na płycie "Dis à la lune qu'elle vienne" zakończone epicko wzniośle). Kompozycje są zróżnicowane, niektóre fragmenty naprawdę zaskakują jak niemal elektronicznie wybijane tempo w początkowej fazie "Torse de marbre" jednak większość to tradycyjne, ciężkie, prawie post-metalowe granie.

Najważniejszą umiejętnością, jaką posiada zespół jest takie budowanie nawet najdłuższych kawałków, że słuchacz ani się nie nudzi (nawet w spokojniejszych momentach, takich jak "Torse de marbre") ani nie jest przytłoczony hałasem. Wręcz przeciwnie, ciągle czeka co stanie się za chwilę.
