By Night With Spear of New York is a dreampop with drums. Very much drums. Among their inspirations, the band name all of the great - MBV, Slowdive, TJaMC, Killing Joke, but I would also add Dead Can Dance to this list. And probably some more. Inspirations are important, but BNWS can add quite a lot of their own things.
The character of the band is shaped by the super airy, high-pitched whispering of Anaben, the vocalist, and marching drums in the background. It creates quite surprising and distressing mix you can hardly ignore. The most interesting track is probably "Twenty Nights" in which the distress reaches its peak, although it is calmed by the vocal sounding as if Anaben was hopelessly accepting her fate. Or maybe "Blue Rider" with this surprisingly fast chorus. It's difficult to choose because the album is simply very leveled. On a good level.
"Seeing In The Dark" costs 5.98 USD.
