Infinity Shred - Forever, a Fast Life (2019) EN

Modern, filled with futuristic sounds post-rock, or as they  describe it, "high-concept instrumental bliss from dystopic guitars, cinematic synths, live symphony, and glitch-y transmissions". This year the New York-based trio Infinity Shred released their third album after Sanctuary and Long Distance. Today we check Forever, a Fast Life.

The band state that they are in war with the modern world, or to be more precise, its attention span: "We always hear the world has a hard time paying attention to longform content, however (...) we put a lot of work into our album as a whole experience. We want you to feel like it’s worth it to take the journey with us.” The unique approach of their music is already tangible in the introductory Brutal Luxury in which neoclassical and pompous strings meet luminary electronics. This is the clash the Americans build up their music upon.

Undoubtedly it is true that the album sounds like one, complete story. It is oftentimes filled with guitars on electronic backgrounds that in sum reminds me of artists such as Tides from Nebula or Shadow Universe. Sometimes, like in a very well done Cranemaker, the Americans' post-rock almost borders post-metal thanks to the tirelessly energetic, metal use of drums.

Współczesny, pełen futurystycznego brzmienia post-rock, czy jak sami piszą: "wysokokonceptualne instrumentalne błogosławieństwo dystopijnych gitar, kinomatograficznych synthów, żywych symfonii i glitchujących transmisji". W tym roku nowojorskie trio Infinity Shred wydało swoją trzecią płytę po Sanctuary i Long Distance. Dzisiaj sprawdzamy Forever, a Fast Life.

Grupa wydaje wojnę współczesnemu światu, a  dokładniej, jego krótkiemu okresowi uwagi: "ciągle słyszymy, ze świat nie potrafi skupić uwagi na dłuższym materiale, a mimo to (...) włożyliśmy w nasz album wiele wysiłku by brzmiał jak całościowe doświadczenie. Chcemy byście chcieli udać się z nami w tę podróż.” Wyjątkowość jej muzyki słyszymy już w intrze Brutal Luxury, gdzie neoklasyczne i pompatyczne skrzypce spotykają świetlistą elektronikę. To na tym zderzeniu bazuje pomysł Amerykanów na muzykę.

Bez wątpienia prawdą jest, że albumu słucha się jak jednej, długiej historii. W większości wypełniona jest ona gitarami i elektronicznymi tłami, co w sumie przypomina mi takich wykonawców jak Tides from Nebula czy Shadow Universe. Miejscami, tak jak w bardzo udanym Cranemaker, post-rock Amerykanów graniczy już niemal z post-metalem dzięki niestrudzonej pracy perkusji.

Tides from Nebula - From Voodoo to Zen (2019) PL

Tides from Nebula to zespół, którego nie trzeba przedstawiać nikomu. Polacy wydali właśnie długo oczekiwaną płytę, którą zapowiadające single słyszeliśmy już blisko rok temu. Teraz możemy nasycić uszy From Voodoo to Zen.

Tidesy to z pewnością najbardziej rozpoznawalny polski postrockowy zespół za granicą i jeden z najbardziej znanych polskich zespołów w ogóle. Ich brzmienie można lubić albo nie, trzeba jednak przyznać, że jest fantastycznie unikalne, a na nowej płycie zmierza w stronę ekstremum jak nigdy dotąd. To może kontrowersyjne, ale skojarzenie gitar i futurystycznej elektroniki i takich też kompozycji przypomina mi o tym co Muse zrobiło dla rocka. I tak, ja jestem fanem. 

W muzyce Polaków dużo jest ciężkich gitar, ale co najmniej równie dużo synthowych/keyboardowych/elektronicznych fragmentów, które niosą te kompozycje, a nie są jedynie ozdobnikami. Niewiele post-rockowych kapel tak odważnie stawia na nowoczesne brzmienie. Klasą samą w sobie jest najlepszy singiel od dawna, wydany jeszcze w zeszłym roku Dopamine z jego elektryzującą, pełną napięcia, ale też niezwykłego flowu kompozycją.

Tides from Nebula - From Voodoo to Zen (2019) EN

Tides from Nebula isa band that needs no introduction. The Poles have just released a long awaited album the single to which we heard almost a year ago already. Now we can finally get a taste of the whole From Voodoo to Zen.

Tides are most certainly the best-known Polish post-rock band abroad and perhaps one of the best-known Polish bands regardless the genre. Their sound can be either liked or not, but it has to be admitted that it's always been unique and now goes straight towards the extremum. Perhaps it's going to be controversial, but it reminds me of what Muse did to rock music. And yes, I'm a fan.

In their music there's quite a lot of heavy guitars but at least the same amount of synth/keyboard/electronic fragments that are not only decorations but really lead the compositions. Not that many post-rock bands are so happy to be so bravely modern. The main thing here is the best single for a long time, released in 2018 Dopamine with its impressive, tension-filled and also with this unique flow composition.
