NurseOnDuty is a unique project that answers the question "what if punks gave up electronic guitars and startes to play electronic music and actually compose melodies instead". Because the English girls make anarcho noise pop at its best. And it is asskicking.

NurseOnDuty start their insane dance from the very first notes. Catchy music won't let you relax even for a second, which is true thanks to great melodies - the best one is probably "!NoPasaran!". The project has both a punk raging spirit and pop-like ability to stick to your brain. And to make your heart beat faster and your legs dance.

The name of the project couldn't be better. Girls who treat, in this case they treat the whole society, are automatically connected with being nurses. Apart from the overall message, the punk origins can be heard also in the sound quality that could be described as lo-fi if you want to be nice. But it shouldn't be too discouraging.

The EPka, as anarchism suggests, is for pay-what-you-want.

NurseOnDuty to wyjątkowy projekt, który odpowiada na pytanie, co by się stało, gdyby szarpiący gitarowe struny punkowi anarchiści odłożyli elektryki i zabrali się za elektronikę i tworzenie melodii. Bo te angielskie dziewczyny to anarchistyczny noise pop w najczystszej postaci. I jak nic innego kopie tyłki.

Swój szalony taniec NurseOnDuty rozpoczynają od pierwszych nut. Wkręcająca muzyka nie pozwala oderwać się nawet na chwilę, a pomagają jej w tym znakomite melodie, jak ta z najlepszego chyba na płycie "!NoPasaran!". Projekt ma więc w sobie zarówno punkowy pazur jak i popową umiejętność wpadania w ucho. Oraz przyspieszania tętna i porywanie do tańca.

Nazwa projektu nie mogła być trafniejsza. Wszak dziewczyny dbające o zdrowie, w tym wypadku społeczeństwa z anarchistycznego punktu widzenia, to automatyczne skojarzenie z pielęgniarkami. Poza przesłaniem z punkowego rodowodu został im także lekki stosunek do jakości dźwięku, który w najlepszym wypadku określić można jako lo-fi. Nie powinno to jednak nikogo zrażać.

Da Voile - Memoria (2017) EN

One-man project from Minsk seems to be a very productive one. For two last years they managed to create eight albums, EPs and singles. The ninth is here, the fresh "Memoria". And without any doubts, deserves to be put inside the "promising and good oneiric post-rock" box.

They have everything. Beautiful airy cover. Latin track titles. And, what's the most important, great music. It combines, as the best music does, oneiric atmosphere of a freshly squeezed lemon dream and loud, sometimes really loud, guitars forcing your eyes to get overly wet. So it is loud ("Finis") and epic (a monumental "Vitae") and both, loud and epic ("Sed"). It's worth getting into the compositions from Belarus, although they could be better quality-wise. And now you have to set the volume up a bit. But is is a big price for some moments of agitation?

Da Voile - Memoria (2017) PL

Jednoosobowy projekt z Mińska, Da Voile, okazuje się być bardzo płodnym. Przez ostatnie dwa lata wydał osiem płyt, epek i singli. Dziewiątą jest świeżutka "Memoria". I bez dwóch zdań zasługuje na umieszczenie w gablotce "zdolny, dobry oniryczny post-rock".

Ma wszystko. Eteryczną i piękną grafikę. Łacińskie tytuły tracków. I, co najważniejsze, doskonałą muzykę. Łączy ona, niczym u najlepszych, oniryczny klimat świeżo wysnutego snu oraz głośne, miejscami bardzo głośne, gitary zmuszające oczy do nadmiernej wilgoci. Jest więc głośno ("Finis") i epicko (monumentalny "Vitae") a także i głośno i epicko ("Sed"). Warto się zasłuchać w kompozycjach Białorusina, choć trzeba przyznać, że mogłyby być lepsze jakościowo. A tak trzeba przekręcić gałkę głośności ciut bardziej w górę. Ale czy to taka cena za kilka chwil wzruszeń?

Wending Tide - The Painter (2017) EN

What's better than aggressive metal with the vocalist screaming as if he wanted to spit out the whole hell when you can hardly find in yourself any motivation to treat the reality politely? Not much. The album by Wending Tide from New Zealand is just perfect for those situations. It's not and doesn't want to be anything more than emotions translated into music.

But it's not entirely without surprises. As for example after full of intensive emotions track number one comes a break filled with beautiful piano keys. And the real masterpiece is the very beginning of the following track, "Cascading Auburn I", that starts with... the vocalist breathing in, getting ready for the mayhem continuation. And then it is guitars and noise until the end with such an aggression that can almost be cut with a knife.

the only problem here is that this music has to be very loud. Really, really loud. But since when is it a problem anyway?

Co jest lepszego niż agresywny metal z wokalistą wrzeszczącym jakby chciał wypluć piekło, gdy ciężko wydobyć z siebie motywację do darzenia rzeczywistości sympatią? Chyba niewiele. Płyta nowozelandzkiego projektu Wending Tide jest niczym skrojona na takie właśnie okazje. Nie jest i nie chce być niczym więcej niż emocjami przetłumaczonymi na muzykę.

Nie jest ona jednak pozbawiona niespodzianek. Jak na przykład, gdy po pełnym intensywnych odczuć głośnym utworze tytułowym następuje kilkusekundowa, jakże piękna, przerwa na nastrojowe klawisze pianina. A prawdziwym majstersztykiem jest początek następnego utworu, "Cascading Auburn I" z charakterystycznym nabieraniem powietrza przez wokalistę. A potem już do samego końca jest gitarowo i głośno i z taką agresją, że można ją niemal nożem kroić.

Jedyny problem jest taki, że tej muzyki trzeba słuchać głośno. Naprawdę głośno. Ale od kiedy jest to problemem?

In Loving Kindness - It's Going To Be Allright (2017) EN

A mysterious band from Flensburg, Germany, surprised me with a really good (probably) debut album. Full of dark dreampop and dull shoegaze. It doesn't feel like a lo-fi amateur music but it can't be said a lot more about the band except that they borrowed their name from a hymn praising Jesus Christ.

The track entitled like the album is slow and melancholic and the attention is drawn to the deep and even gloomy vocal hidden somewhere behind the line of bass. "Line of Thought" is a bit faster, especially with the rhythmical drums but it's only in "Last Words"that we get a really sullen and dark music. For late night listening sessions.

The album is supposed to be a hot soup on a cold night poured directly to our ears and I'll be damned if it is not the warmest soup I had there.

Tajemniczy zespół z niemieckiego Flensburga zaskoczył naprawdę dobrą, (prawdopodobnie) debiutancką płytą. Pełną mrocznego dreampopu i zgaszonego shoegaze'u. Nie sprawia w ogóle wrażenia produkcji amatorskiej ale ciężko cokolwiek więcej powiedzieć na temat Niemców oprócz tego, że nazwę wzięli z popularnego hymnu wielbiącego Jezusa.

Tytułowy utwór jest powolny i melancholijny, a uwagę przyciąga przede wszystkim głęboki i nawet ponury wokal schowany gdzieś za głośnym basem. "Line of Thought" jest już nieco szybsze, zwłaszcza dzięki rytmicznej perkusji. Dopiero jednak "Last Words" to naprawdę ponura i mroczna muzyka. Do słuchania po zmroku.

Płyta ma być według samego zespołu gorącą zupą w zimną noc nalaną prosto w nasze uszy i niech mnie licho jeśli to nie jest najcieplejsza zupa, którą w nich miałem.

Leviathan Owl - Everything Will Be Fine (2017) EN

Leviathan Owl or Andrew Scott from Scotland its this week dose of advanced, complex and really good instrumental music. Scott's post-rock is both loud guitars and really ornamental compositions with beautiful keys and electronic backgrounds.

All of this is shown already in "Pofaced" that is everything but a simple song. The inner ear can't catch up with all the variations offered by Scott here. And the other tracks are not different at all. I mean they are different, in every second. In "Home" alongside aggressive guitars, there is a composition played on piano and the two pieces composition entitled "Built by Dogs" is really nothing familiar.

Leviathan Owl post-rock has quite positive vibe in it, it shows the beauty while hiding the melancholy and pain of this music. While listening to this album one can hardly disagree with the title.

Leviathan Owl czyli Andrew Scott ze Szkocji to tegotygodniowa porcja dojrzałego, rozbudowanego i po prostu dobrego instrumentalnego grania. Post-rock Scotta to równocześnie harde i głośne gitary jak i bardziej ornamentalne kompozycje przeplatające się wraz z ładnymi klawiszami i elektronicznymi tłami.

Wszystko to pokazuje już w "Pofaced", o którym powiedzieć można wiele, ale nie to, że jest prostą muzyką napisaną na jedno kopyto. Ucho wewnętrzne nie może niemal nadążyć za zmianami, które oferuje w tym utworze Scott. Zresztą kolejne utwory nie są wcale inne. A raczej są, w każdej chwili są inne. W "Home" obok agresywnych gitar pojawia się kompozycja na pianinie natomiast w dwuczęściowej kompozycji "Built by Dogs" zdecydowanie nic nie jest już czym się wydaje.

Post-rock Leviathan Owl ma bardzo pozytywny wydźwięk, pokazuje piękno zakrywając melancholijne i bolesne strony tej muzyki. Słuchając tej płyty trudno się więc nie zgodzić z jej tytułem, wszystko rzeczywiście będzie w porządku.

Endless Melancholy - For (2017) EN

Endless Melancholy, the best ambient in Ukraine, comes back with a new album created in four evenings with four tracks recorded at once and served fresh to our awaiting plates. And you can say it is a first class spring music.

The album tells the story of two people who woke up one day and discovered that they are all alone in the whole world. Although they had worries about the unexpected loneliness, the whole things end with an image of them wandering along still and empty streets of a city. Is it a drama or a happy story? Isn't that when you have this one and only person you actually wish to have only them? Isn't dream coming true?

The emptiness of this world is wonderfully depicted with drones and ambient backgrounds that seduce us so we want to submerge into them and cut us off from the too loud and too crowdy world around.

Endless Melancholy - For (2017) PL

Endless Melancholy, najlepszy ambient Ukrainy wraca z płytą stworzoną w cztery wieczory z czterema utworami nagranymi za jednym zamachem i podanymi jeszcze świeżymi prosto na nasze oczekujące talerze. I chyba nie trzeba wspominać, że ta świeżynka jest pierwszej jakości.

Płyta opowiada historię dwójki ludzi, którzy obudzili się pewnego dnia i zorientowali się, że są na świecie całkiem sami. Mimo obaw przed tą nieoczekiwaną samotnością całość kończy się obrazem, w którym oboje przemierzają puste i nieruchowe ulice miasta. Czy to jest właściwie dramat czy szczęśliwa historia? Czy gdy ma się tę jedną, jedyną osobę, nie marzy się by być tylko z nią? Czy nie jest to właśnie spełnienie snów?

Pustka świata zobrazowana została idealnie dzięki drone'om i ambientowym tłom zapraszającym do zanurzenia się w nie i odcięcia się od zbyt głośnego i zbyt zatłoczonego świata wokół.

Deer Park Ranger - Everything All The Time (2017) EN

Trevor Humphrey nad his project called Deer Park Ranger surprised me a lot with his electronic post-rock debut and enlarged the number of Californians on this blog. But he, as one of the few, doesn't go with airy vocals but chose to express himself with electronic sounds that lead the projects.

"Lakeshore"greets us with both accumulated guitars and tasty electronic backgrounds that spread out like a surface of the lake mentioned. And from time to time wild melodies can be heard there too. Skillfully selected electronic sounds are also present in "Twenty-Nine Years" in which synthesizers replace guitars and lead the whole thing alongside drums. Delicate "The Cold For You" slowly transforms into mesmerizing with fast pace and cold keys mayhem and "Everything Old" with "Off Tonight" complete the whole thing. 

Deer Park Ranger makes music for everyone who loves not-that-dark post-rock, especially if it's less rock and more electronics.

Trevor Humphrey i jego projekt Deer Park Ranger zaskoczył mocno eklektycznym post-rockowym debiutem i zasilił mocne grono Kalifornijczyków obecnych na blogu. Chociaż jako jeden z nielicznych nie stawia na eteryczne wokale, przemawiają za niego elektroniczne dźwięki rządzące tym intrygującym projektem.

"Lakeshore" wita nas i skomasowanymi gitarami i apetycznie elektronicznymi tłami, które rozciągają się jak powierzchnia tytułowego jeziora. A na ich tle przemykają ulotne melodie wygrywane na klawiszach. Umiejętnie elektroniką operuje również "Twenty-Nine Years", w którym syntezator zastępuje niejako gitary i do wtóru perkusji wiedzie prym w refrenie. Łagodne "The Cold For You" przemieniające się powoli w hipnotyzujące szybkim tempem i zimnymi klawiszami oraz pełne napięcia "Everything Old" i "Off Tonight" dopełniają całości.

Deer Park Ranger to muzyka dla wszystkich, którzy kochają nie-aż-tak-mroczny post-rock, a zwłaszcza, gdy mniej w nim rocka, a więcej elektroniki.

Ono Scream - Ono Scream (2017) EN

Uncommonly long as for this blog, the album by Ono Scream from Belgium couldn't be missed out here.Because it's worth attention from the first to the fourteenth track. OS is a project by Bart Willems known as a frontman of Aparaat, who in his solo works combines inspirations from his youth (Bauhaus, Fad Gadgets, Simple Minds) and today (Soft Moon, Tropic of Cancer) and filters it with his own, very dark, perception.

The album immediately shows its best side as "Hollow Man" is one of the best songs of this month for me. Shoegazing vocal combined with catchy coldwave and melodies and, can't be left unnoticed, depressive lyrics do the trick. later it is also unsettling in "That Salty Taste" and more airy in "This Endless Walking", in which there is also a beautiful female vocal. Another great track with quite straightforward message is "What Have They Done".

The whole album balances between moody shoegaze and protest-songing coldwave. That's why dull and icy voice of Willems fits it perfectly. As well as twitching in some places and droning in other guitars in the background.

Ono Scream - Ono Scream (2017) PL

Nadzwyczaj długa jak na ten blog płyta Ono Scream z Belgii nie mogła się tu nie pojawić. Bo od pierwszego do czternastego utworu zasługuje na najwyższą uwagę. OS to Bart Willems znany jako frontman Aparaatu, który zabrał się za projekt solowy, w którym rozlicza się ze swoimi inspiracjami z młodości (Bauhaus, Fad Gadgets, Simple Minds) i teraźniejszości (Soft Moon, Tropic of Cancer) i przefiltrowuje je przez swoją własną, bardzo mroczną, percepcję.

Płyta od razu prezentuje swoją najlepszą stronę. Bo "Hollow Man" to dla mnie jeden z lepszych utworów tego miesiąca. Shoegaze'owy wokal połączony z przebojowym coldwave'em i chwytliwą melodią oraz, nie da się ukryć, depresyjnym tekstem robią swoją robotę. Dalej jest równie niepokojąco w "That Salty Taste" lub bardziej eterycznie w "This Endless Walking", w którym pojawia się również żeński wokal. Genialnym kawałkiem, bardzo wyrazistym w swoim przesłaniu jest "What Have They Done".

Cały materiał balansuje pomiędzy nastrojowym shoegaze'em a protest-songującą zimną falą. Doskonale nadaje się do tego głuchy i zimny głos Willemsa i czasem szarpiące, a czasem nastrojowo drone'ujące gitary w tłach.

I Tpame I Tvrame - Future Attitude (2017) EN

Let's broaden the borders of the blog with one more country. Who has heard about coldwave mixed witha  solid dose of electronic music straight up from Albania? We all have now thanks to a duet Franc Kurti and Dina Hajrullah that make up I Tpame I Tvrame.

"Satori" means hot beats played alongside cold as ice guitar backgrounds. Who would say that such a combination is even possible? But it is and it sounds really good. But it's only a beginning. Already the next track, "The Calling" attacks with a louder wall of sound with melodies played on thick bass strings and greasy beats. The whole impression is built with minimal effort and this kind of minimalism can and should be admired.

The one song that really draws attention is "Future Attitude" with the repertoire is broaden with clear electronic sounds and, first of all, Dina's vocas that sound as if it was taken from a shelf between British coldwave and American trip-hop. Fits perfectly. And the whole thing climaxes in "Distress" in which no one really knows what genre it really is and no one really care anymore.

Poszerzamy granice bloga o kolejne państwo. Kto słyszał o zimnym coldwave'ie skojarzonym z solidną dawką elektroniki prosto z Albanii? Teraz my wszyscy. Dzięki duetowi Franc Kurti i Dina Hajrullahu czyli I Tpame I Tvrame.

"Satori" to gorące bity zagrane na zimnych jak lód gitarowych tłach. Kto by pomyślał, że takie połączenie jest w ogóle możliwe. Tymczasem nie tylko jest ale również brzmi nadzwyczaj dobrze. Niemniej jest to tylko przygrywka. Już kolejny utwór, "The Calling" atakuje głośniejszą ścianą dźwięku z melodią wygrywaną na grubych strunach basu i tłustych samplerach. Wszystkie wrażenia wywoływane są przy minimalnych nakładach, można i należy bardzo cenić tego typu minimalizm.

W pamięć zapada natomiast od razu "Future Attitude", utwór w którym do repertuaru dochodzą bardzo wyraziste elektroniczne dźwięki i, przede wszystkim, wokal Diny brzmiący jakby leżał w szufladzie dokładnie pomiędzy zimnofalowymi brytyjskimi a trip-hopowymi z Ameryki. Pasuje idealnie. A wszystko osiąga zenity w "Distress", w którym nie wiadomo już jakiego gatunku się słucha i czy ma to jakiekolwiek znaczenie.

Nyctalgia - A Hint of Eternity (2017) EN

Another in last weeks alongside George Will extraordinary and extraordinarily emotional post-rock comes from Switzerland. Silvio Pfiffner of Basel known as Nyctalgia is an artist for obligatory checking and falling in love for everyone who likes crying over beautiful sounds and flying in space.

Pfiffner doesn't cut short on anything. The album from the very beginning is full of this beautiful pathos that reminds of movie scenes of ascension and equally bombastic events. Listener can't get bored with all those strings and dirty guitars and epic drums and delicate keys inviting them to their insane dance. The whole album is an instant ecstasy.

The music is also painful in its beauty. No wonder as the name of the project is also a sickness that involves feeling pain while sleeping. This is what happens to everyone who drowns into the new album by Pfiffner.

Nyctalgia - A Hint of Eternity (2017) PL

Kolejny obok George Will w ostatnich tygodniach nadzwyczajny i nadzwyczajnie emocjonalny orkiestrowy post-rock nadchodzi ze Szwajcarii. SANAA - Tell Time By The Sun (2017) EN

Very short because the project is quite mysterious. Either my information finding skills are pretty weak, either there's next to nothing about SANAA to be found in the Net. Such a shame. Because the Greeks have recorded a great album that hides the softest of softcores and the sunniest of dreampops behind the image of the Sun. And the title is no coincidence.

Think about ocean, sunrise, and a situation when you don't have to check your watch to know the time, just looking at the Sun is enough. The album is all about this. Slow, even lazy pace of the drums plus struming guitars and this vocal. Like a memory of the best summer holidays of your youth. One can easily fall in this sound. And it's the most beautiful in "Sunrise", where dusty happiness seen from a distance still looks pretty amazing.

SANAA - Tell Time By The Sun (2017) PL

Bardzo krótko, bo projekt jest super tajemniczy. Albo to moje umiejętności wyszukiwania informacji są słabe albo o SANAA nie ma prawie niczego w Internecie. A szkoda. Bo Grecy nagrali genialną płytę, która za wizerunkiem słońca ukrywa najlżejszy z softcore'ów, najsłoneczniejszy z dreampopów. A słońce nie jest w tym epitecie żadnym przypadkiem.

Pomyślcie o oceanie, o wschodzie słońca i o sytuacji, gdy do sprawdzenia czasu nie potrzebujecie zegarków, a wystarczy wam spojrzeć na słońce. To o tym jest ta płyta. Niespieszne, wręcz leniwe tempo perkusji, a do tego brzdękające w abstrakcyjnie melancholijny sposób gitary oraz ten wokal. Jak wspomnienie najlepszych wakacji z młodości. Można się zasłuchać. A najpiękniej wyszło to w "Sunrise", gdzie przykurzone już trochę szczęście widziane z perspektywy czasu wygląda nawet całkiem atrakcyjnie.

缺省 - California Nebula (2017) EN

A band that is "dead like Sichuan (the Chinese province), a story of the fabric that never existed", a really good shoegaze that got born in the capital city of the huge Middle Kingdom. It seems that even there bands playing this genre tend to look longingly in the same direction, towards California.

But 缺省 ("Default") are not really fascinated by the California sun and the full of energy and life and noise surf rock but they create their own, slow and moody shoegaze. Titles of the tracks sound like the shortest of haikus ("Winter day", "Dove's Chirp") and create a real trip to the world of the loud escapism, especially in "将死之时掩以水门汀" that combines delicate and super melodic vocals with very dirty and noisy guitars. "Moon Plate" surprises with the vocal that fluctuates between a self-confident and a neurotic one that bows under the weight of guilt. The last track, "Schwarzschild Drainhole" goes back to the heavy atmosphere and bombastic mood. It could really be cut with a knife.

Zespół "martwy jak Syczuan (chińska prowincja), historia osnowy,która nigdy nie istniała", niezwykle dobry shoegaze, który narodził się w ogromnej stolicy ogromnego Państwa Środka. Okazuje się, że nawet tam zespoły grające ten gatunek patrzą tęsknie w poszukiwaniu inspiracji w jedną stronę, ku Kalifornii.

Jednak 缺省 ("Domyślnie") nie fascynują się kalifornijskim słońcem czy pełnym energii, życia i hałasu surf rockiem, a kreują swój, powolny i nastrojowy shoegaze. Tytuły kolejnych otworów brzmią jak najkrótsze haiku ("Zimowy dzień", "Świergot gołębia") i stanowią prawdziwą podróż w świat głośnego eskapizmu, zwłaszcza w zestawiającym delikatne i niezwykle melodyjne wokale z bardzo brudnym i hałaśliwym gitarowym graniem "将死之时掩以水门汀". "Moon Plate" zaskakuje z kolei wokalem, który faluje między pewnym siebie a neurotycznym i obarczonym poczuciem winy. Kończący płytę "Schwarzschild Drainhole" to znowu powrót do ciężkiej atmosfery i podniosłego nastroju. Można je nożem kroić.

Sujo - A Deeper Curse (2017) EN

Sujo, a Massachusetts based project, despite its mysterious form, has extremely expressive message. It is dressed in droning post-rock full of humming and blurry shapes drowning in grey smoke. Perhaps it is easy to say where the smoke comes from.

It’s enough to look at the cover photo with a black and white picture and then decipher song titles (Haganah and Lehi are the names of Israel paramilitary organisations and phosphorus is a nasty weapon). Also the name of the project is meaningful since in Portuguese it means “foul”, “unclean” as in “foul play”. So, war is the leitmotif of the whole album but what is it actually? According to the album’s title it is indeed a “deeper curse” instead of a “deeper cause”.

Sujo, projekt z Massachusetts, mimo formy wydaje się być niezwykle wymowny przekaz. Ubrany jest on w drone'ujący post-rock pełny szumów i niewyraźnych figur tonących w szarym dymie. Być może łatwo zgadnąć skąd ten dym się bierze.

Wystarczy spojrzeć na czarno białe zdjęcie na okładce, a potem rozszyfrować tytuły utworów (Haganah i Lechi to izraelskie organizacje paramilitarne, fosfor to znana z niezwykłego okrucieństwa broń). Natomiast nazwa zespołu po portugalsku oznacza tyle co "brudny, nieczysty" w znaczeniu "brudne zagranie". Motywem przewodnim płyty jest więc wojna, a czym więc ona jest? Sądząc po tytule całości, jest ona właśnie głębszą klątwą ("curse"), a nie ważniejszą racją ("casue").
