Fading Tapes - Northern Constellation (2018) EN

They are inspired by "various experiments", they play "horny intubated experimental space granite rock" and they do it for four years now. The Krzysztof Siwkowski and Marcin Lasek duet released an album filled with a lot of experiments and guitar ambient, called "Northern Constellation".

The album is "only" three tracks long but the tracks are very long and filled with goodies. The delicate guitar string sounds that had been played on with various effects inspire with their atmosphere and the way they were written. It's not only a guitar drone, the artists did they best so the hour spent with the album couldn't possibly be perceived as boring, that's why sometimes it sounds like a purebred ambient while sometimes it's a very slow instrumental post-rock. Classy.

If Only the Trees - Drop the Air (2018) EN

If Only The Trees (not to be confused with If These Trees Could Talk) have their own approach to music that combines post-rock guitars and and indie folk rock atmosphere, so they are equally inspired by Mogwai as by The National. You can check out how this combination works on their debut "Drop the Air".

This inspirations can be treated very literally. The vocal parts have the same vibe of americana and American suburbs as Matt Berninger and his band has, while the guitar layer in which the vocals sometimes get lost, and which is built on the folkish part is deafening noise that is hardly worse that the Scottish instrumental blast. Those two ingredients function very often just next to each other (as in the great "The Way They Leave"), but are also satisfying alone, as "Let Alone Love" is a brilliant post-rock piece while "So Much Plenty Of" stands somewhere between what The National and The Black Heart Procession do.

Płyta ma tylko trzy utwory, ale to kawałki bardzo długie i treściwe. Wypełnione delikatnymi dźwiękami gitarowych strun poddanych różnym efektom, zachwycają atmosferą i wykonaniem. To nie tylko gitarowy drone, artyści dołożyli starań by godzina z nimi spędzona nie nużyła, stąd miejscami brzmią jak rasowy ambient, by w innych miejscach podchodzić pod bardzo wolny instrumentalny post-rock. Klasa.

If Only The Trees (nie mylić z If These Trees Could Talk) mają swoje właśnie podejście do muzyki, łącząc w niej post-rockowe gitary i atmosferę z indie folk rockiem, w równym stopniu inspirowaną Mogwai jak i The National. Można tę mieszankę sprawdzić na ich debiutanckim "Drop the Air".

Te inspiracje można traktować bardzo dosłownie: części z wokalem mają tego samego ducha americany i amerykańskiej prowincji, co twórczość zespołu Matta Berningera, natomiast nadbudowana na nich warstwa gitarowa, w której wokal nieraz się gubi, zagłuszony fantastycznym hałasem, w żaden sposób nie jest słabsza od instrumentalnego uderzenia Szkotów. Te dwie składowa słuchać często tuż obok siebie (na przykład w znakomitym "The Way They Leave"), ale potrafią funkcjonować osobno, bo "Let Alone Love" jest fantastycznym kawałkiem post-rockowym, a "So Much Plenty Of" stoi gdzieś między twórczością The National, a The Black Heart Procession.

The Dark Third - Even As the Light Grows (2018) EN

The Dark Third come from New Zealand and are inspired by a whole bunch of brilliant projects, from Blindead and The Black Heart Rebellion up to Jon Hopkins. This shows how eclectic the music on their new album "Even As the Light Grows" is.

Everything begins with chaotic noise, but it's not before long when piano music starts to emerge together witch clear drums, guitars and strings. The Kiwis show how to use a lot of various instruments and ideas create well-written and complex post-rock music. And there are also melancholic lyrics and vocal reminding me of progressive rock with it's colour. It all sound as if Steven Wilson suddenly became the frontman of Arcade Fire. Intriguing idea with great implementation.

They are good both at long, over ten minutes long compositions in this progressive folk style and in the shorter and more intensive ones, especially in "These Things Are Not Inherent" played mostly on piano and drums, or in the more guitar, in some fragments actually metal "Erewhon".

The Dark Third pochodzą z Nowej Zelandii, a inspirują się całym spektrum znakomitych zespołów - od Blindead przez The Black Heart Rebellion po Jona Hopkinsa. To tylko pokazuje jak eklektyczną muzykę serwują nam artyści na swojej nowej płycie "Even As the Light Grows".

Wszystko zaczyna się od chaotycznego hałasu, szybko jednak zaczyna panować pianino, wyraźna perkusja, gitary, smyczki. Nowozelandczycy pokazują jak z wielości instrumentów i, co ważniejsze, pomysłów ulepić dobrze napisany i kompleksowy post-rock. Do tego dochodzi wokal o barwie przypominającej rock progresywny i melancholijnymi tekstami. Brzmi to wszystko trochę jakby Steven Wilson został liderem Arcade Fire. Pomysł intrygujący, wykonanie fantastyczne.

Dają sobie radę zarówno długie, kilkunastominutowe kompozycje w tym folkowo-progresywnym stylu, jak i krótsze, bardziej intensywne, zwłaszcza "These Things Are Not Inherent" zagrany przede wszystkim na pianinie i perkusji, czy bardzo gitarowy, a wręcz miejscami metalowy "Erewhon".

Paraphon Tree - Aura (2018) EN

Paraphon Tree is a duet made of the German musicians Aron Jäger and Felix Rambach who play post-rock with a very noticeable hint of industrial music. They showed it on their April album"Aura".

The album welcomes us with its raw, industrial sound provided by the clear drums that feel as if someone played it in an abandoned factory rooms. Unlike other projects, the Germans show their longest and most epic track as first, not the last one. In it, they serve long, slowly developing intro, jazz-like insertions and massive guitars in the track's final part.

And it's only a beginning, "Firefly" stands out due to its beautiful keys, "Macro Worm" with the electronically sounding parts and "Astrophysics" with the truly metal guitars. The whole album finds its great finish in its best track, "Structures in the Clouds" in which the band combines the more traditional post-rock with music filled with the guitar grandeur.

Paraphon Tree - Aura (2018) PL

Paraphon Tree to duet niemieckich muzyków Arona Jägera i Feliksa Rambacha grających naznaczony industrialnym brzmieniem post-rock. Ostatnio pokazali swoją muzykę na kwietniowym krążku "Aura".

Album wita nas surowym, industrialnym brzmieniem w postaci wyrazistej perkusji brzmiącej jakby dudniono w nią we wnętrzu opuszczonej fabryki. W odróżnieniu od innych projektów, Niemcy najdłuższy i najbardziej epicki utwór prezentują nie na końcu, a na samym początku. Serwują w nim słuchaczom długo rozwijające się intro, jazzujące wstawki i potężne gitary w finale. 

A to tylko przygrywka to kolejnych atrakcji przygotowanych przez duet. "Firefly" odznacza się pięknymi klawiszami, "Macro Worm" elektronicznie brzmiącymi wstawkami, a "Astrophysics" prawdziwie metalowymi gitarami. Całość znajduje swój finał w najlepszym na płycie "Structures in the Clouds", w którym udanie łączy się tradycyjny gitarowy post-rock z naładowanym rozmachem epickim graniem.

α·Pav - Another World (2018) EN

The α·Pav projects comes from China and creates wonderfully touching neoclassical moments. The combination of piano keys and strings is showed on the tasteful album "Another World".

Melodies that are sad and hopeful at the same time are the main characteristic of the artist(s)' work. As in "Escape from Darkness" that evolves from filled with nostalgic strings to lively, energetic instrumental track. The musician knows all the emotions - "La Lune" is breathtakingly beautiful, "Dreaming of Better Days" gives hope and the finishing "Another World" makes a concert on all known emotions with an occasional use of airy backing vocals. Definitely worth checking out.

Projekt α·Pav pochodzi z Chin i tworzy znakomicie wzruszające neoklasyczne momenty. Połączenie klawiszów pianina i smyczków pokazuje na wysmakowanym albumie "Another World".

Jednocześnie smutne jak i dające nadzieję melodie to znak rozpoznawczy artysty. Tak jak w "Escape from Darkness", które z owładniętego nostalgicznymi smyczkami ewoluuje w stronę żywego, pełnego energii kawałka instrumentalnego. Muzykowi nie jest obca żadna emocja - "La Lune" zachwyca pięknem, "Dreaming of Better Days" dodaje nadziei, a zamykająca płytę, tytułowa "Another World" to koncert na nie wszystkie z okazjonalny użyciem eterycznych chórów. Warto zwrócić uwagę.

How To Disappear Completely to jeden z najważniejszych, jeżeli właśnie nie najważniejszy projekt około-ambientowy w Polsce. Muzycy budują swoją pozycję kolejnymi albumami ozdabianymi fenomenalnymi i bardzo smutnymi grafikami. Tym razem HTDC pokazało trzecią część swojego "eksperymentalnego projektu z muzyką do spania" - "Mer de Revs".

I faktycznie, na płycie znajduje się ponad godzina czystej onirycznej atmosfery. Powolna elektronika bazująca na reverbach i dronach kołysze i uspokaja, chociaż jest też niewątpliwie bardzo smutna (przecież zaczerpnięta z tytułu powieści Douga Richmonda nazwa projektu jest niemal definicją depresji). Utrzymana w minimalistycznej stylistyce muzyka (artyści celowo używali jak najmniejszej ilości sprzętu możliwej) hipnotyzuje słuchaczy od pierwszych dźwięków. 

Godzina spędzona z How To Disappear Completely pozwala nie tylko zasnąć, ale przede wszystkim spojrzeć we własne emocje, posmucić się i pomarzyć.

How To Disappear Completely - Mer de Revs III (2018) EN

How To Disappear Completely is one of the most important, if not the most important ambient-esque projects in Poland. The musicians build their status with more and more albums decorated with phenomenal and very sad images. This time HTDC showed the third part of the "experimental sleep music project" - "Mer de Revs".

And indeed, the album includes over an hour of oneiric atmosphere. The slow electronics based on reverbs and drones swings and infuses calmness but is still undoubtedly sad (after all the project's name taken from Doug Richmond's novel's title makes almost a definition of depression). Kept in minimalist style music (the artists used the smallest number of gear possible on purpose) mesmerizes from the very beginning.

The hour spent with How To Disappear Completely makes it easy not only to fall to sleep but first of all to look into your own emotions, get sad and get dreamy.

Matt Christensen - Grown Gifts (2018) EN

Perhaps not every fan knows this name, but a lot of people knows and respects the band he  is the leader of. The vocalist of the Chicago-based Zelienople, Matt Christensen, three years after releasing the absolutely wonderful "Show Us The Fire" shows the audience his very own album "Grown Gifts".

The solo works by Christensen have much less noise and experimental nature (worth mentioning is that one of the tags on Bandcamp under this album says "regular songs with words") and focuses on acoustic songs that are both beautiful and unsettling. Everything the artist needs is his own, warm voice and a guitar that is also, or maybe first of all, heard as delicately dirty noise in the backgrounds. The tracks flow from the speakers slowly, it's clear that Christensen doesn't rush anywhere and would rather make some more of his magical atmosphere than put down his guitar too early.

Filled with personal experience and memories lyrics seem to match the more peaceful tracks by Piano Magic and build up both intimate and melancholic ambiance. Lacking the catchiness but rich with emotions music by Christensen is a must-listen-to at late nights.

Być może nie każdy fan kojarzy to nazwisko, jednak sporo osób zna i szanuje zespół, któremu ten artysta lideruje. Wokalista chicagowskiego Zelienople, Matt Christensen trzy lata po wydaniu genialnego "Show Us The Fire" pokazuje publice własny krążek "Grown Gifts".

Solowa twórczość Christensena ma w sobie dużo mniej noise'u i eksperymentalności (zresztą jednym z tagów na Bandcampie jest "regular songs with words") i stawia zdecydowanie na akustyczne piosenki, które są zarówno piękne jak i niepokojące. Wszystko, czego potrzeba artyście to jego własny, ciepły głos i gitara, również, a może przede wszystkim, w formie delikatnie brudnego noise'u w tle. Utwory wyciekają z głośników powoli i leniwie, wyraźnie widać, że Christensenowi nigdzie się nie spieszy i woli oczarować słuchaczy wyjątkową atmosferą niż przedwcześnie odkładać gitarę.

Pełne osobistych doświadczeń i wspomnień teksty przypominają nieco co spokojniejsze kawałki Piano Magic i jednocześnie budują intymną i melancholijną atmosferę. Pozbawiona przebojowości ale przebogata w emocje muzyka Christensena to pozycja obowiązkowa do słuchania późną nocą.

Bend The Sky - Expanse (2018) EN

Expressiveness and elevated emotions, this is something you can find plenty of in the music by the Australian Bend The Sky. The band's instrumental post-rock combines the aggressive sounds of guitars with melancholic keys in the best way possible. The occasion to get into their music appears with the release of their new album, "Expanse".

The musical pathos may be hard to swallow for some, but it has to be stated that music like this by the Australians does a great job in playing with emotions. Euphoric moments when the listener is ready to jump out of the shoes and run to conquer the world is mixed with fragments of sadness and melancholy. And everything done, obviously, with no lyrics. From the very beginning of the album, the band offer what they have best: the skillful combination of guitars, keys and backgrounds with some airy and sacral/elevated backing vocals.

This is extremely steady album and makes a well written whole. It's hard to point at anything and say "this is the best track" as even the great "Navigator" or epic "Pilgrimage" doesn't stand out that much from the rest. The album requires listening to the whole and being ready to get touched.

Bend The Sky - Expanse (2018) PL

Ekspresja i podniosłe emocje, tego w muzyce australijskiego Bend The Sky znaleźć można na kopy. Instrumentalny post-rock zespołu łączy agresywnie brzmiące gitary z melancholijnymi klawiszami w najlepszy możliwy sposób. Okazja by się wkręcić w ich twórczość pojawiła się właśnie wraz z wydaniem nowego albumu "Expanse".

Muzyczny patos nie dla wszystkich musi być zjadliwy, jednak trzeba przyznać, że muzyka taka jak ta proponowana przez Australijczyków znakomicie gra na emocjach. Euforyczne momenty, gdy słuchacz szykuje się aby wyskoczyć z butów i ruszać podbijać świat, przeplata się tu z fragmentami pełnymi smutku i zadumy. A wszystko to oczywiście bez słów. Od samego początku Australijczycy serwują to, co mają najlepsze, umiejętnie łącząc gitary, klawisze i tła, w których królują eteryczne i sakralno-podniosłe chóry.

To niezwykle równa płyta i stanowi dobrze napisaną całość. Ciężko cokolwiek wyróżnić bo nawet świetne "Navigator" czy epickie "Pilgrimage" nie odstają poziomem znacząco. Album wymaga przesłuchania go jako całości i gotowości do bycia poruszonym.

Holy Fawn - Death Spells (2018) EN

The second album from Holy Fawn not only is another shoegaze gem coming from United States, it's also everything shoegaze should be - the perfect combination of noise and melody. "Death Spells" is a serious candidate for the best album of the genre in 2018.

"Indie, Acid, Mellow, Heavy, Animals, Nature, Dreams, Taste of Moss, Bury Yourself Alive" this is the band's motto and this organic spirit can be found in every moment of this fantastic album. The Arizona-based musicians combine in their music the density of the best shoegaze, expressiveness and always-changing-nature of metal and long-distanced compositions together with the falsetto of the vocalist that come straight from Tame Impala's works ("Dark Stone"!).  A huge thing is how the guitars function here, besides working as the traditional, relatively peaceful background for the airy vocals, they are able to explode frantically as deafening noise that changes the pace so well.

Another characteristic would be Ryan Osterman's vocal, when necessary, it is very airy but doesn't hesitate to go to really crazy places: both high-pitched singing from psychedelia and angry screaming that would well fit metal and hardcore works. The album begins with a series of earthquakes in "Dark Stone" and "Arrows" after which it slowly gets quieter, especially in the ballad "Seer"and interludium "Two Waves". The second part of the album is devoted to more oneiric sounds, but still with a dose of craziness, especially in the finishing track "Sleep Tongue".

Holy Fawn - Death Spells (2018) PL

Drugi album Holy Fawn nie jest tylko kolejną shoegaze'ową perełką ze Stanów, jest wszystkim, czym shoegaze powinien być - idealną kombinacją hałasu i melodii. "Death Spells" to poważny kandydat do tytułu najlepszego wydawnictwa 2018 w tym gatunku. 

"Indie, Acid, Mellow, Heavy, Zwierzęta, Natura, Sny, Smak mchu, Zakop się żywcem" tak brzmi maksyma zespołu i da się tę organiczną duszę odszukać w każdej chwili znakomitego krążka. Arizończycy łączą w swojej muzyce duchotę najlepszego shoegaze'u, ekspresyjność i zmienność metalu oraz budowanie długich kompozycję i falset wokalisty rodem z Tame Impala ("Dark Stone"!). Wielką rolę odgrywa sposób, w jaki w projekcie funkcjonują gitary - oprócz tradycyjnego, spokojnego podkładu pod eteryczny wokal, potrafią one wybuchnąć znienacka pod postacią ogłuszającego hałasu, tak doskonale różnicującego tempo.

Kolejną sprawą jest właśnie wokal Ryana Ostermana, gdy trzeba eteryczny, ale niewahający się zapędzić w szalone rejony - zarówno wysokie rodem z psychodeli, jak i wściekłe, których nie powstydziliby się hardcore'owcy. Płyta zaczyna się od serii trzęsień ziemi w "Dark Stone" i "Arrows", po czym systematycznie się uspokaja, zwłaszcza w balladowym "Seer" i interludium "Two Waves". Druga część krążka poświęcona jest bardziej onirycznym dźwiękom, w których jednak wciąż niemało jest szaleństwa, zwłaszcza w zamykającym album "Sleep Tongue".

North Atlantic Drift - Departures, Vol. 2 (2018) EN

The North Atlantic Drift is an underwater river pulling the warm water from the Caribbeans straight to Europe. Same way it heats up European western coasts, the music of the project called in the same way, heats up the listeners' hearts. The sixth album by North Atlantic Drift can be a surprise for their fans as the Mike Abercrombie and Brad Deschamps duet gave up the louder, post-rocking sounds and created an album filled with quietening ambient.

This is how this contemplation and being just with your own enforcing album was born. All of the delicate like spiderweb noise and some effects as the sound of fire flames in "Carousel" make a wave of peace flowing from the distant Canada. The second part to the last year's album "Departures"  makes it possible to drown in its music so it seems that coming back to the real world is no longer an option.

Prąd Północnoatlantycki to podwodna rzeka pchająca ciepłą wodę z Karaibów wprost na Europę. Tak jak on ogrzewa jej zachodnie wybrzeża, tak nowa płyta projektu o tej samej nazwie, ogrzewa serca słuchaczy. Szósty album North Atlantic Drift to w dużym stopniu nowość dla fanów bo duet Mike Abercrombie i Brad Deschamps zrezygnowali z głośniejszych, post-rockowych dźwięków na rzecz wyciszającego ambientu.

Dzięki temu powstała płyta do kontemplacji, pobycia ze sobą sam na sam. Cały delikatny jak pajęczyna noise i efekty, takie jak dźwięk leniwych płomieni w "Carousel" to płynąca z dalekiej Kanady fala spokoju. Druga część zeszłorocznego albumu "Departures" pozwala w swojej muzyce zatonąć, tak że wydaje się, że nie trzeba będzie nigdy wracać do realnego świata.

Gargle - Wading in Shallow Waters (2018) EN

Gargle, an instrumental music duet from Tokyo, in their sound combines post-rock with neoclassical music and instruments (like piano or accordion) to "transmit a vivid story with a touch of melancholy". The way I see it, the touch on their second album "Wading in Shallow Waters" makes a heavy punch. 

The melancholic grandeur or melancholic drone, everything's an option for Gargle. Sometimes they seem to reach for the highest pinnacles ("Hibernation") while sometimes they look for inspiration in almost ambient sounds (the first part of "Desert Bloom"). What's interesting is that they found it also in Dostoevsky's novel "Notes From Underground", and the poem inspired by the book is cited in "Morphine". The most interesting instrument used by the Japanese clearly is the accordion, something unique and non-obvious, but capable of creating unparalleled atmosphere (especially in the dark "A Prelude to Nightfall").

he album is essentially closed in an absolutely orchestral manner in "Distanced", and one can hardly believe it's only two people making this music, and they do it also live! This is one great combination of the orchestral grandeur and the post-rock melancholy. Or the other way round.

Gargle - Wading in Shallow Waters (2018) PL

Gargle, instrumentalny duet z Tokio łączy w swoim brzmieniu post-rock z muzyką neoklasyczną i takimi instrumentami (m.in. pianino i akordeon) tak by "przekazać żywe historie ze szczyptą melancholii". Jak na mój gust ta szczypta na ich drugim albumie "Wading in Shallow Waters" jest naprawdę pokaźna.

Melancholijny rozmach czy też melancholijny drone, dla Gargle wszystko jest możliwe. Czasem na płycie sięgają górskich szczytów ("Hibernation"), a czasem szukają inspiracji w ponurych, prawie ambientowych dźwiękach (pierwsza część "Desert Bloom"). Co ciekawe, inspiracją była również powieść Dostojewskiego "Notatki z podziemia", a inspirowany nią poemat słychać deklamowany w "Morphine". W instrumentarium Japończyków najciekawszym elementem wydaje się być akordeon, dodatek nieoczywisty i rzadko spotykany, a potrafiący zbudować znakomity klimat (najlepiej to słychać w mrocznym "A Prelude to Nightfall").

Album zamyka prawdziwie orkiestralny "Distanced", aż trudno uwierzyć, że projekt to naprawdę tylko dwie osoby, które przecież występują też z tym repertuarem live! Znakomite doprawdy skojarzenie rozmachu orkiestry i melancholii post-rocka. Albo na odwrót.

Still Corners - Slow Air (2018) EN

Still Corners, one of the best airy/dreamy bands of last years come back with their new album only to prove this honourable title belongs to them. The Greg Hughes and Tessa Murray duet got widely known with their album "Creatures of an Hour" released by Sub Pop and the single "Fireflies" that was admired by Pitchfork itself. "Slow Air" makes already the fourth long play by the band and we should only wish for the band to keep the pace in future.

The album is a real sanctuary for peacefully catchy hits diffused in the reverb fog. Sticking out of the fog are Hughes' riffs and Murray's vocals that create this unique atmosphere of the airy rock, at the same time the woman-man duet automatically adds some of the intimacy and subtle eroticism feelings to the music. The best examples here would be the very slow "Sad Movies" and "The Message".

But what's the most characteristic for the album is the combination of dream pop with the tropical atmosphere starting from "Welcome to Slow Air". This exotic vibe makes some fresh breeze within the airy music and the band seems to know that as it is tangible in the following tracks, including the brilliant "Black Lagoon" or "Dreamlands". The whole album really is, as Murray describes it, "steady, eerie and beautiful".

Still Corners, jeden z najlepszych eteryczno-dreampopowych zespołów ostatnich lat powraca z nową płytą tylko po to by ten zaszczytny tytuł potwierdzić. Duet Greg Hughes i Tessa Murray zasłynął krążkiem "Creatures of an Hour" wydanym przez Sub Pop i singlem "Fireflies", nad którym rozpływał się Pitchfork. "Slow Air" to już czwarta płyta długogrająca zespołu i oby tak dalej.

Album jest prawdziwym sanktuarium łagodnie przebojowych, rozrzedzonych nieco w reverbowej mgle hitów. Wydostające się z tej mgły od czasu do czasu riffy Hughesa i wokal Murray tworzą tę szczególną atmosferę eterycznego rocka, jednocześnie damsko-męski duet siłą rzeczy niesie ze sobą wrażenie intymności i delikatnego erotyzmu. Najlepszymi na to przykładami jest bardzo powolne "Sad Movies" czy "The Message".

Z kolei najbardziej charakterystyczne dla tej płyty jest połączenie dream popu z tropikalną atmosferą zaczynające się w "Welcome to Slow Air". Ten egzotyczny duch jest świeżym powiewem w eterycznej muzyce i zespół chyba o tym wie, bo wyczuwalny jest w kolejnych utworach płyty, w tym znakomitej "Black Lagoon" czy "Dreamlands". Cała płyta rzeczywiście jest taka, jak opisuję ją Murray: "miarowa, niesamowita i piękna".

Sound chaos slowly gaining a form, this could be the musical characteristic of Lost Seeds Found Trees. If anyone wants to try this crazy journey, the band's new work, "Among the Ice", is recommended.

Doesn't matter if it's electronic jingling in "Cassini Shields Up", or samples with spoken word in "mammock No3", or distracted as much as possible "mammock No4", nothing in the music by the Belorussians is obvious. Chaos is the album's leitmotif and surprises are their plan for making music. However, perhaps the biggest surprise here is that this concoction bears fruits in the finishing song, "Among the Ice" that is beautiful, acoustic and actually sung.

La ciencia simple - III IV VII (2018) EN

La ciencia simple is one of the band that treat the border between post-rock and ambient superficially, if they notice it at all. They describe their genre as "ambiente libre" or "free ambient" in English. The Chile based musicians "with instrumental music create atmospheric structures and dramatic stories" and the perfect example of this is their new album, "III IV VII".

Never in hurry guitars and a lot of reverbs make the characteristic features of the band's music. When their guitars and drums go silent, the air is filled with droning remains of the guitar sounds, this ambient background creates brilliant atmosphere, especially when it is used as an introduction to louder, more post-rock fragments (as in the album's best "Noisetalgia").

Another things that draw attention are the sparse use of electronics that add up to the ambient beauty of the music ("105") and "galloping" through the ambient landscapes mid part of the album finishing "La sensación más antigua del mundo".

La ciencia simple to jeden z tych zespołów, które granicę między ambientem a post-rockiem traktują bardzo umownie, jeśli w ogóle ją zauważają. Sami określają swój muzyczny gatunek "ambiente libre", czyli "wolnym ambientem". Chilijczycy "za pomocą instrumentów tworzą atmosferyczne struktury i dramatyczne historie", doskonałym przykładem na to jest ich nowa płyta, "III IV VII".

Niespieszne gitarowe pasaże i bardzo dużo reverbów, to znaki szczególne zespołu. Gdy gitary i perkusja milkną, cisza wypełnia się dronującymi pozostałościami po gitarowych dźwiękach, to ambientowe tło tworzy wspaniałą atmosferę, zwłaszcza gdy wykorzystywane jest jako przygrywka do głośniejszych, bardziej post-rockowych fragmentów (jak w najlepszym chyba na płycie "Noisetalgia"). 

Zwraca uwagę również oszczędne użycie elektroniki, dodającej wszystkiemu bardziej klasycznie ambientowej urody ("105") oraz "galopujące" przez ambientowe pejzaże rozwinięcie wieńczącego płytę "La sensación más antigua del mundo".

When i miss the rain - Daydreaming (2018) EN

When i miss the rain is yet another one-man metal project from South America that appears on Łabandzi Śpiew. This one is the creation of Pablo Cubilla known as a member of such bands as Rebhellion or Hatred Source. This time he sets on his journey alone and, undoubtedly, he did well.

"Daydreaming", as the title suggests, includes metal that is very close to the oneiric atmosphere of shoegaze or dream pop. Just like those genres, it focuses on the ambiance generated with reverbs and echoes, however Cubilla's musical background adds some of the powerful metal noise to the music. Just like his counterparts did, he proves that it takes one talented person to create a lot of beautiful noise.

When i miss the rain to kolejny z szeregu jednoosobowych metalowych projektów z Ameryki Południowych, jaki zawitał na Łabandzi Śpiew. Tym razem jest to dziecko Pablo Cubilli znanego jako członek takich zespołów jak Rebhellion czy Hatred Source. Tym razem wybrał się w podróż samemu i, trzeba przyznać, że mu się udało.

"Daydreaming", tak jak sugeruje to nazwa, prezentuje metal, któremu blisko do onirycznej atmosfery shoegaze'u czy dream popu. Tak jak one skupia się na nastroju generowanym reverbami i echem, natomiast środowisko, z którego wywodzi się Cubilla dodaje do tego moc metalowego hałasu. Podobnie jak jego poprzednicy, dowodzi on, że do generowania pięknego hałasu wystarczy jedna, uzdolniona osoba.

Autumn Creatures - Funeral Garden (2018) PL

Tak jak sugeruje to tytuł projektu, Autumn Creatures to muzyka dla jesiennych melancholików. Post-rockowy zespół wspomagany smyczkowym kwartetem stworzył płytę specjalnie dla nich, pełną gitarowego polotu i smutnych klawiszy. I zatytułował ją odpowiednio: "Funeral Garden".

Amerykanie z Colorado Springs celują w tworzenie gęstego, wypełniającego całe muzyczne spektrum klimatu. Głośne gitary nie pozostawiają najmniejszego skrawka wolnej przestrzeni i zajmują się zagłuszaniem myśli w prawdziwie doom metalowy sposób, podczas gdy klawisze nadają temu hałasowi trochę piękna. A poza tym jest jeszcze kwartet smyczkowy będący wszystkim, czego wymagam od jesiennej muzyki.

Do tego dochodzą jeszcze przesmutne sample z damskim wokalem mówiącym o depresji i stracie. Te brzmią najlepiej w "Death in Silent Places", utworze, który za nic ma sobie tradycyjne zakończenia i prowadzi do zaskakującego finału własnymi ścieżkami. Tym najbardziej ponurym kawałkiem jest natomiast "Mourn/Suffer", noise brzmiący jak szary, deszczowy dzień. Idzie jesień, pierwsza jesienna płyta już jest.

Autumn Creatures - Funeral Garden (2018) EN

Just like the project's name suggests, Autumn Creatures make music for autumn melancholics. Post-rock band supported with a string quartet created music especially for them, filled with guitar grandeur and sad keys. And entitled it as they were supposed to: "Funeral Garden".

Colorado Springs based Americans are all in for making thick atmosphere filling out the whole musical spectre. Loud guitars leave no free room for anything and deal with deafening down listeners' thoughts in a really doom-like way, while the keys bring some beauty to this noise. And there''s also the string quartet that is all I require from autumn music.

Another thing is the use of almost overly sad samples filled with female voice talking about depression and loss. They sound best in "Death in Silent Places", a tack that doesn't care about traditional song finishing styles and leads the way to the surprising end as it wants. The gloomiest track on the album though is "Mourn/Suffer", a noise sounding like a grey, rainy day. The autumn is coming but the first autumn album is already here.
