WHΛLESFLY - DETHRONEMENT (2017) EN

I usually avoid projects tagged as "which house" because this way of killing music conventions is not my cup of poison. But WHΛLESFLY is different. It's a solid dose of anxiety if not fear. Not only does its name refer to a plague of suicides in Russia but also the music itself brings a lot of weird feelings. But I can't deny that it's really good.

It is just riveting with it's massiveness. Shoegaze vocals combined with energetic and indeed riveting electronic sounds that even when seemingly ending can surprise and speed up even more in the least likely moment (just like in "WILL BE..."). And it is really good at playing on the listener's feelings with melodic and at the same time cold keys only to heat up instantly with loud beats. It's no music to dance to but rather to experience true rapture deep inside. And to feel some fear at a dark night.

And it's full of surprises, especially with amazing cover at the very end of the album.

"DETHRONEMENT" is available for 6 USD.

WHΛLESFLY - DETHRONEMENT (2017) PL

Zwyczajnie porywa swoim rozmachem. No i żeby się trochę przestraszyć ciemną nocą.

A do tego zaskakuje, zwłaszcza zupełnie niespodziewanym coverem w ostatnim utworze.

"DETHRONEMENT" kosztuje 25 złotych (6 USD).

How To Disappear Completely - Void Vision (2017) EN

The better one from at least two bands called like Thom Yorke's song comes from Poland and plays one of the darkest music you can imagine. It's hardly surprising for a band whose leitmotif is about disappearing.

"Void Vision" is a result of one-night-long recording session. And it's precisely night that is suggested to be the time when the album sounds best. And according to the band, it has to be played loud and on headphones. And probably while sinking into the night avoiding lights of orange and blue streetlamps. The album is full of unsettling sounds that, however, melt down in moody ambient. I can't really agree with the title, this vision is not void, it depends on what one seeks in music. I find a lot here and I'll have it in my ears at nights.

The band has just released yet another album, "Reunion", that really has to be listened to as well.

"Void Vision" costs 3,99 USD.

How To Disappear Completely - Void Vision (2017) PL

King Woman - Created in the Image of Suffering (2017) EN

King Woman makes one of this year's hottest full length debuts, so good they're on Bandcamp and could end up here as well. The Californians name tag themselves as doom rock and that's no coincidence - heavy sounds of stoner guitars can hit so hard. But there's also Kristina Esfandiari's vocal that makes the whole thing sound shoegaze-y (or rather darkgaze-y).

"Create in the Image of Suffering" begins with an intro followed by the album's hit because that's the way to call "Utopia". But the album keeps your attention til the very end. The combination of tough music and airy vocal (but the vocalist can also show some claws, like in "Shame") with dark atmosphere doesn't leave you indifferent. Bandcamp's website says that they are some kind of unbelievable concoction of Black Sabbath and Mazzy Star and that's so very true.

"Create in the Image of Suffering" costs 9,99 USD.

King Woman - Created in the Image of Suffering (2017) PL

"Create in the Image of Suffering" zaczyna się intrem i od razu największym swoim przebojem, bo tak należy określić "Utopię". Jednak album wciąga do samego końca.

"Create in the Image of Suffering" kosztuje 40 złotych (9,99 USD).

North Arch Rising - 1/3(c) (2017) EN

North Arch Rising, solo project by Chris Harrington of Essex, is a combination of piano keys haunted by post-rock atmosphere and mystic aura. From the project's name and the general idea up to the music itself, everything suggests that there's much more to it than just sounds.

"1/3(c)" is the third part of a trilogy ornamented with the same graphics and name and it crowns the whole, over two hours long whole. Harrington's music is mysterious and seductive. It combines compositions played on piano with ambient backgrounds and good dose of drums. Some of the tracks are some kind of introductions to another ones that, like e.g. "≈" leave strong impression of being both complex and full of dense ambiance.

NAR's music has a lot of cinematic pathos, it's not surprising that some of them were used in documentaries made by BBC. I would love to see "1/3(c)" being played during a long time lapsed shot somewhere cold and dark where there is snow under your feet and auroras over your head.

"1/3(c)" costs 5 GBP.
