All India Radio - Moviestar EP (2019) EN

Established around Martin Kennedy band All India Radio is around already for over 20 years and released around 40 (!) albums. It's an astonishing result and it's worth congratulating the musicians by listening to the short EP Moviestar from July.

In the colourful description of their works, Kennedy states that inspirations are drawn from Lynch, Pink Floyd, Radiohead or Boards of Canada. Some of them are visible already on the cover art aesthetics, some also in the music. Kennedy and co. play sample infused post-rock with easy-to-sppot psychedelic and even jazz. There are some heavier guitar riffs but they appear very seldom (Immortality, Pt. 2), still however, the tracks' compositions and movie samples suggest deeper post-rock connections.

It's worth noting that the first two tracks are going to appear on the long play releasing in October and called Eternal.

Założona wokół Martina Kennedy'ego formacja All India Radio już od 20-tu lat i wydała około czterdziestu (!) albumów. To niezwykły wyczyn, a pogratulować można muzykom słuchając znakomitej chociaż krótkiej EP-ki Moviestar z lipca tego roku. 

W barwnym podsumowaniu swojej twórczości Kennedy pisze o inspiracjach czerpanych od Lyncha, Pink Floyd, Radiohead czy Boards of Canada. Część z nich widać już w samej estetyce cover artu, część wyraźnie w muzyce. Kennedy i spółka gra nasycony samplami post-rock z łatwo wyczuwalnymi elementami psychodelii, a nawet jazzu. Mocniejsze riffy pojawiają się rzadko (Immortality, Pt. 2), ale kompozycje kawałków i sample wyjęte z filmów mocno sugerują post-rockowe inspiracje muzyków.

Warto dodać, ze dwa pierwsze kawałki pojawią się też na zapowiedzianej na październik płycie Eternal.

The Sun's Evil Twin - Here Comes the Sun (2019) EN

The Sun's Evil Twin is a duo comprising of Arnaud Lerch and Fred Briantais, two musicians from Cergy, a town next to Paris. Their new, released in June, EP is called Here Comes the Sun.

"The Sun's Evil Twin is a group that aims to spread love. All kinds of love" - they state on their official website. And they do so with old-school psychedelic shoegaze/space rock reminding the audience of Spiritualized, Primal Scream or Spacemen 3. The similarities here are striking - guitars that are psychedelic but also hidden in the backgrounds, distinctive vocal. There's no coincidence that one of the track's title reads Psychedelic Revolution. And it doesn't matter that the revolution took place some time ago already, the retro music by the Frenchmen can be enjoyed nevertheless.

The Sun's Evil Twin to duet Arnaud Lerch - Fred Briantais, dwóch muzyków z podparyskiego Cergy. Ich nowa, wydana w czerwcu EP-ka zatytułowana jest Here Comes the Sun.

"The Sun's Evil Twin is a group that aims to spread love. All kinds of love" - piszą o sobie na oficjalnej stronie. A szerzą ją za pomocą oldschoolowego psychodelicznego shoegaze'u/spacerocka spod znaku Spiritualized, Primal Scream czy Spacemen 3. Podobieństwo jest uderzające - psychodeliczne, ale schowane w tle gitary, charakterystyczny wokal. Zresztą nie przez przypadek jeden z utworów nosi tytuł Psychedelic Revolution. To że rewolucja ta dokonała się już jakiś czas temu niewiele przeszkadza w cieszeniu się retro muzyką Francuzów.

Earth to Zena - Transmutations (2019) EN

Earth to Zena come from the New Zealand's Wellington and debuted not so long ago with their EP called Transmundane that is now built on with the album Transmutaions, It's filled mostly with the alternative versions of the debut album's songs, but is worth-checking-out anyway.

They create the music inspired by a number of genres: Swoją muzykę tworzą inspirując się szeregiem gatunków: "ethereal melodies of dream-pop, the shimmering noise of shoegaze, the riffs and rhythms of psychedelic rock, and the nostalgic timbres of new wave". This diversification is clear on the EP, also as Renee Cotton's vocal is less shoegaze-esque and more like spiritual American psychedelia. 

The Kiwis' music is light and dominated by acoustic guitar plays. The older tracks are separated by original compositions swerving back and forth between psychedelic post-rock and almost drone ambient. And together making it a diverse and interesting whole.

Earth to Zena pochodzą z nowozelandzkiego Wellington i swoją karierę rozpoczynali nie tak dawno EP-ką Transmundane, którą teraz rozwijają albumem Transmutaions, Wypełniają ją w większości alternatywne wersje znanych z debiutu kawałków, niemniej, warto ją poznać.

Swoją muzykę tworzą inspirując się szeregiem gatunków: "ethereal melodies of dream-pop, the shimmering noise of shoegaze, the riffs and rhythms of psychedelic rock, and the nostalgic timbres of new wave". To zróżnicowanie czuć na EP-ce: wokal Renee Cotton jest mniej shoegaze'owy, a bardziej kojarzy się z uduchowioną amerykańską psychodelą. 

Muzyka Nowozelandczyków jest lekka i dominują w niej akustyczne popisy gitary. Kawałki starsze są tutaj przedzielane oryginalnymi kompozycjami lawirującymi między psychodelicznym post-rockiem a prawie dronowym ambientem. W sumie daje to zróżnicowaną i ciekawą całość.

Pendro and Smallhaus - Debris (2019) PL

Duet Pendro (Tim Jones) i Smallhaus (David Little) to brytyjscy muzycy około-ambientowi, którzy połączyli siły by stworzyć urokliwą EP-kę zatytułowaną Debris.

Mimo tytułu, muzyka na albumie nie jest odpadem, a owocem wytężonej współpracy. Na muzykę składają się dźwięki gitary i syntezatora silnie przetworzone  i przemielone, tak by wprawiać w stan melancholijnego zadumania. Synthowe tła nadają całości ponurej melodii, a eksperymenty na pierwszym planie intrygują. Ciężko lepiej określić tę skomplikowaną miksturę niż zrobili to sami muzycy mówiąc, że "rozciąga się pomiędzy glitchującym ambientowym techno po rytualistycznym psychodeliznymi, synthowymi i napędzanymi electronicznym smyczkiem ambientowymi dronami". Słuchać!
