Gnoomes - MU! (2019) EN

Perm-based Russians making music as Gnoomes must be considered as already well-established name on the Russian shoegaze-and-around scene. This year they released their probably most mature album yet called MU! which makes us fall in love for a couple months already, finally also here.

The band play "a potent mix of psychedelic stargaze, kraut techno and kosmiche pop", but they wanted to make their newest album "more live and less electronic" to "sound more dynamic". Recorded in an old post-soviet radio broadcast station, MU! inspires with its unique sound. It's not just another album filled with a blending of shoegaze and dream pop, but there's more of the experimental, coldwave and space trips (as in the super interesting Irmie).

And even if some tracks seem to be more conventional, just like Glasgow Coma State, with time they develop into industrial-post-rock compositions. Exactly this industrial, drawing a bit from the club atmosphere pace in form of fast and nervous beats is the album's characteristic trait. Perhaps the most traditional, old-school, early-Slowdive-esque shoegaze can be found in How Do You, but even the fat hat the Russians saved it for the very end seems to prove that they'd rather work in shoegazish experiments instead.

Visions - Temples (2019) EN

Visions is a project by Frédéric Arbour, coming from Canada and residing in Berlin artist known from his collaboration with the Russian PHURPA, creates some extremely dark and dense ambient. His newest work is Temples, long and super atmospheric album.

It is advertised as "more grounded and melody based pieces", but it shouldn't mislead anyone. The artist's music is still very climatic, heavy from the overlapping layers and dark atmosphere ambient. It's also, and this is another quote, a "hymn to lost civilisations, and a gratitude for what can still be found and discovered from our predecessors". So the title's temples are the ones of the culture and the humanity's progress. It's worth diving into.

Visions to Frédéric Arbour, pochodzący z Kanady a rezydujący w Berlinie artysta znany ze współpracą z rosyjską PHURPĄ tworzy bardzo mroczny i gęsty ambient. Jego najnowsza kreacja to Temples, długogrająca, bardzo klimatyczna płyta.

Reklamowana jest jako "bardziej przyziemna i melodyjna", co jednak nikogo nie powinno zwieźć. Utwory artysty to wciąż bardzo klimatyczny, ciężki od nachodzących a siebie warstw i mrocznej atmosfery ambient. Jest to też, i tu kolejny cytat, "hymn dla zaginionych cywilizacji i wdzięczność za wszystko, co wciąż może być odkryte od naszych przodków". To więc takie świątynie, kultury i ludzkiego progresu, autor ma na myśli. Warto się zasłuchać.

Vlack Salzo - Mareternum (2019) EN

The Catalan Vlack Salzo play proudly epic and very guitar-oriented post-rock. Try what they are capable of on their May album called Mareternum.

Based on the hard, unnerving sounds of guitars instrumental music by the Barcelona-based artists makes an energetic dose of music adrenaline infused through headphones. Fast pace, diverse melodies, tangled motifs and finally the more peaceful fragments played on piano keys that give some place to breathe but also announce the incoming lively sections. As it is in Luna 9 in which the finish is found in space-sounds-infused crescendo.

Another thing is the samples adding up to the poignant in this music. First of all in Arctic Blooms where the majority of time is occupied by environmental and very sad monologue. So the Catalans put into their music not only the heart and energy but also some deeper message.

Kataloński zespół Vlack Salzo gra dumnie epicki i bardzo gitarowy post-rock. Sprawdzić ich możliwości można na wydanej w maju płycie Mareternum.

Bazująca na twardym, szarpiącym dźwięku gitar instrumentalna muzyka barcelończyków, to bardzo energetyzująca dawka, muzyczna adrenalina podawana przez słuchawki. Szybkie tempo, zróżnicowane melodie, mieszające się wątki i w końcu fragmenty łagodniejsze, zagrane na pianinie, które dają nieco wytchnienia, ale też przygotowują do następnych wartkich sekcji. Tak jak w Luna 9, gdzie kończy się to nasyconym kosmicznymi dźwiękami crescendo.

Inną rzeczą są sample podbijające element przejmujący w muzyce zespołu. Przede wszystkim w Arctic Blooms, gdzie gros czasu uwagę przykuwa pro-ekologiczny i bardzo smutny monolog. Tak więc Katalończycy w swoją muzykę wkładają nie tylko serce i energię, ale też głębsze przesłanie.

All India Radio - Moviestar EP (2019) EN

Established around Martin Kennedy band All India Radio is around already for over 20 years and released around 40 (!) albums. It's an astonishing result and it's worth congratulating the musicians by listening to the short EP Moviestar from July.

In the colourful description of their works, Kennedy states that inspirations are drawn from Lynch, Pink Floyd, Radiohead or Boards of Canada. Some of them are visible already on the cover art aesthetics, some also in the music. Kennedy and co. play sample infused post-rock with easy-to-sppot psychedelic and even jazz. There are some heavier guitar riffs but they appear very seldom (Immortality, Pt. 2), still however, the tracks' compositions and movie samples suggest deeper post-rock connections.

It's worth noting that the first two tracks are going to appear on the long play releasing in October and called Eternal.
