Архитектурный Оркестр Благодетели - АОБ (2017) EN

There is a genuine Russian invasion on this blog going on. This time it's Architecture Vigilante Orchestra from Petersburg's turn. Their name sounds like one belonging to a jazz ensemble or at least Russian reply to Gogol Bordello. But no, AVO serves a high quality shoegaze with extremely lively, rock-n roll guitars.

The most shoegazing part of the album are vocals - airy and dreamily distracted in "Навсегда забыть все" or sounding as if sung by Andy Bell of RIDE in "В воскресенье захотели тишины". Meanwhile, the second track, "Тактильная галлюцинация", sounds like Bon Jovi with vocals borrowed from an underground coldwave band.

The real climax of the Russian's music takes place in "Новая зависимость душевного рода" in which for 12 minutes they don't spare their guitars and various distractions in order to drive the audience into a real hypnotic trance. The tension and the pace is also built by keys sounding almost like church organs.

Trwa prawdziwa rosyjska inwazja świetnych zespołów na nasz blog. Tym razem pora na petersburską Architecture Vigilante Orchestra. Nazwa brzmi jakby chodziło o jakiegoś rodzaju jazzujący ensemble, a w najlepszym przypadku rosyjską odpowiedź na Gogol Bordello, tymczasem AVO serwuje nam doskonałej jakości shoegaze z bardzo żywymi, rockowymi wręcz gitarami.

Najbardziej shoeagaze'owe na płycie są wokale - eterycznie rozproszone niczym wyjęte ze snu w "Навсегда забыть все" albo brzmiące jak Andy Bell z RIDE w "В воскресенье захотели тишины". Tymczasem druga piosenka, "Тактильная галлюцинация", brzmi nieco jak Bon Jovi z wokalami pożyczonymi od jakiegoś podziemnego zimnofalowego zespołu.

Prawdziwy pokaz grania petersburczycy dają jednak dopiero w "Новая зависимость душевного рода", gdzie przez dwanaście minut nie żałują gitar i przesterów by wprowadzić słuchaczy w prawdziwy trans. Napięcie i niezwykłe tempo tego kawałka budują również klawisze brzmiące jak kościelne organy.

A very conceptually coherent project from Poland. XkY and his ▲STR▲L TRI▲NGLEISM creates not only interesting ambient music but also compelling images - you should check out the the artist's Deviantart account. And yes, it is a poo emoji on the avatar's head.

The Ambient by the pole sounds like a lullaby played on various things found in an old factory. It is soundscape and noisy and very, very much oneiric. With this music you could be falling to sleep for the whole eternity and it would be perfect. Also the track titles (my favourite is "Headful of Flowers") add to the project's atmosphere. As if there was not enough of it already.

Bardzo spójny koncepcyjnie projekt z Polski. XkY i jego projekt ▲STR▲L TRI▲NGLEISM to nie tylko ciekawy ambient ale też przynoszące sporo radości grafiki - warto spojrzeć na deviantową stronę artysty. I tak, to jest kupo emotka na awatarowej głowie.

Ambient od Polaka brzmi jak kołysanka zagrana na rzeczach znalezionych w starej fabryce. Jest trochę soundscape'owo, trochę noisowo i bardzo, bardzo onirycznie. Do takiej muzyki można by zasypiać całą wieczność. Także same tytułu utworów (mój ulubiony to "Headful of Flowers") dodają projektowi klimatu. Jakby było go mało.

Blankenberge - Radiogaze (2017) EN

At the beginning of they year I got the Russians from Blankenberge under my radar thanks to the great single "We". Now they've just released their first long play and it makes me certain that there is a new wonderful shoegaze collective that has been born in the Eastern Europe.

They write that they create music that is both soft and noisy. No doubt it is. Yana's vocals are airy and soft like a pillow made of moss. It is a perfect fit to the loud and majestically overwhelming guitars. It sounds great in the introduction to the Russian's world in "Disappear" and in the faster ones as "Somewhere Between" or "Out Loud"). The inspirations are clearly seen. The beautiful "Falling Stars" could as well been created by MBV while "So Cold" by Slowdive. But the best one is still the unbeatable "We". Good dose of shoegaze.

The interesting fact is that the band's name comes from a city located in northern Belgium, where the musicians were so fascinated with the sea that they wrote their first song there - "Seagulls". Yes, comparisons to RIDE are quite understandable.

Blankenberge - Radiogaze (2017) PL

Na początku roku wziąłem Rosjan z Blankenberge pod lupę dzięki genialnemu singlowi "We". Dziś w końcu wydali pełnoprawną płytę i nie mogę oprzeć się wrażeniu, że za naszą wschodnią granicą powstał kolejny przedniej jakości shoegaze'ujący kolektyw.

Sami o sobie piszą, że tworzą muzykę, która jest zarówno miękka jak i hałaśliwa. Bez wątpienia taka jest. Wokal Yany jest eteryczny i miękki jak poduszka z mchu. Do hałaśliwych ale przede wszystkim majestatycznie przytłaczających gitar pasuje on pierwszorzędnie. Świetnie brzmi we wprowadzający nas w świat Rosjan "Disappear" jak i w szybszych ("Somewhere Between", "Out Loud"). Inspiracje są wyraźne - piękny "Falling Stars" równie dobrze mógłby być kawałkiem MBV a "So Cold" Slowdive'u. Ale najlepszym kawałkiem pozostaje niepodrabialne "We". Kawał shoegaze'u.

Co ciekawe, nazwa zespołu pochodzi od miejscowości na północy Belgii, gdzie zafascynowani morzem muzycy napisali swój pierwszy kawałek - "Seagulls". Tak, skojarzenia z RIDE są jak najbardziej na miejscu.

Я РЫСЬ - Воблы EP (2017) EN

More of postpunk or coldwave? Or perhaps rock'n roll? Я РЫСЬ from Kaliningrad creates a difficult to label wild coldwave symbolized by a lynx, born in the wild as they claim.

And so the Russians surprise us from the very first moments of "Лес" with an uncanny way of singing that made me think of good old Polish coldwave bands from the communist period. "Пыль в глаза"  is more lively although the vocal is still cold. But the chorus sounds awesome. Similarly as in "Два слова". The track that gave the title to the EP, "Воблы", is again a little bit more punkish while the ending in "Двое" is a real frozen cherry on top. Bound to be tasted.
