saisa - Melancholy Fado (2018) EN

Fado, if there's anybody who doesn't know that, is a traditional Portuguese way of singing accompanied by two guitars. It's melancholic on its own so if the album is called Melancholy Fado, you know to expect an extra thick atmosphere. Saisa are from Japan, not from Portugal, but they sure know what it's about.

A vocal that is extremely nice to listen to (sometimes reaching impressive heights), piano keys and guitar ambiance are te leit motifs of the Japanese's new album. The music here makes a difficult to label combination of post-rock, neoclassical and indie rock, quite traditional rock vocals (sometimes sounding, I dare say, as from Nightwish, for example in Restore the Pain), but very interesting music layer is saisa's way to go.

It's super interesting for instance in Morning Haze in which the vocal and the piano lie on a background made of delicate guitar noise. Another wort-attention track would be an instrumental Lucid Dreaming and Nightmares, sounding perhaps better than the tracks with vocals.

"Melancholy Fado" costs 11 EUR (1400 JPY).

Check: Morning Haze
Country: Japan
