Icelandic Elephants - Ghost Followers (2016) EN

It’s raining outside. And our journey through Russia is not very successful - we won’t even leave Petersburg. The third band from the “Venice of the North” is the project by Vitya Grin - Icelandic Elephants. The sensibility-and-nostalgy difference between the Wednesday’s Ifwe and IE is like the previous one between Ifwe and Show Me A Dinosaur - huge. Downwards, towards calmness and depressive melancholy. (BTW, dinosaurs, elephants, what kind of Russian fondness of being huge is it?)

The music made for rain, blanket and sleep, when there’s a party behind the wall and you just want to be alone with your thoughts. Grin doesn’t like talking about his music: “I'm creating boring music like ambient or drone or something like that”, “I like music very much. I think it makes me happy”. Full stop. But the music speaks for itself, about loneliness (“When Our Friends Will Turn Away”), fate (“Leave Home”) and lost hopes (“Turn Back Into Silence”). Just like the title suggests, about people who are lost in their memories and the most important thing for them is chasing the ghosts of people, who are no longer by their side.

Grin thanks his fans for listening to his “words” (the quotation marks are the author’s way of writing it), which is the best proof for that with his ambient work he wants to express something very true. And Painful.

(BTW, an Icelandic elephant” is not something so very absurd - there’s at least one of them, just check out Google Image)

“Ghost Followers” can be bought for only $3.
