Fogscape - Badlands (2018) EN

They say they are from Greenland but on their cover art they put a fantastic work by Noel Kernsa with the Wild West vibes. And in their music they show why they draw inspiration from wilderness, be it the snowy or the dusty ones. Their atmospheric, intimate and touching electronics is similar to the calmer tracks from Chris Corner in the way it proves to be a good device of transferring melancholia.

Between the both warm and refreshing vocals, there is wind's blowing sounds on the album so it sounds as if recorded in the poorly built shed from the cover. From now and then there are sounds reminding us of the uniqueness of this musical construction lead by the weeping creaking in "Encounters". The atmosphere also dictates the pace and the way we interpret the poignant vocal.

Meanwhile, "Aftermath" introduces surprisingly some livelier music. The most important thing though is that the project manages to maintain the characteristic atmosphere of intimacy when employing the more danceable form, when building up a dialog-driven track in "Eidolon" or in the nostalgic ballads. Worth checking out.

"Badlands" costs whatever you want to pay.
