Misertus - Earthlight (2020) EN

Tomas, English artist known as Misertus (but also as Misterus which is amusing to me), reached this blog last year with his album called Outland. And he's not stopping so he released at least as good followup in Earthlight.

The album with the title that strongly makes me think of my compatriots from Tides from Nebula, makes a traditional for the post-metal-blackgaze borderlands marriage of aggression and ethereality. So it's almost the same as it was on the last album. Here the pace is also madly fast and regulated by very metal-like drums and of course brutal guitar sounds. And this is all softened down by synths and inspired backing vocals while in the vocals there is something from the two faces of this music at the same time: aggressively post-metal and withdrawn and blurred at the same time. Everything in its right place.

What really draws the listener's attention is the energy the Englishman's music carries. Honestly each second of the album is like that but the climax is reached probably in the great Vision & Sight. If anybody seeks music that combines darkness and light, blackgaze makes the perfect solution. And if blackgaze, then Misertus is one of the best choices.

Earthlight costs whatever you want to pay.
