WARM - WARM Pt. 2 (2018) EN

Don't be fooled by the winter picture, the New York based WARM is warm not only in its name. It's entanglement of guitar sounds and dispersed vocals that is as warm as your bed when you dream.

They kept us waiting quite long as "WARM Pt. 1" is already almost three year-old. And we got only a new EP but it's stil very much worth appreciating. Everything here is dreamily beautiful , everything is embroidered with this airy atmosphere we usually wake up from. This time you can turn on WARM's music and stay in dream as long as you want.

All of the four tracks on the album are kept in similar atmosphere but there is also something unique in each of them. "Stay" seduces with the finish when vocals are left by guitar sounds alone and they sound extremely sweet. "Home" is a super-warm song with lyrics filled with hope. "Hollow"  is built on a thick bass line which means that when the guitars hit the hit is even bigger. The track that differs the most is "Weak". It starts as a delicate ballad sounding much like Slowdive's music but it is soon devoured by hungry guitars. WARM rocks.

Niech zimowe zdjęcie nikogo nie zmyli, nowojorskie WARM ciepłe jest nie tylko z nazwy. To plątanina gitar i rozproszonych wokali ciepłych jak łóżko, gdy śnisz.

Długo kazali czekać na swój nowy materiał bo "WARM pt. 1" ma już prawie trzy lata. I dostaliśmy tylko EP-kę ale wciąż jest to warte uwagi. Wszystko jest tutaj sennie piękne, wszystko ma tę eteryczną atmosferę, z której na ogół się wybudzamy. Tym razem wystarczy włączyć muzykę WARM żeby znaleźć się we śnie na jak długo się chce.

Wszystkie cztery kawałki na płytce są utrzymane w podobnym klimacie, w każdym jednak znajduje się coś wyjątkowego. "Stay" urzeka finiszem, w którym opuszczone przez gitary wokale brzmią przez chwilę przesłodko , "Home" to bardzo ciepły i pełen nadziei tekst, "Hollow" zbudowany jest na bardzo grubym basie, dzięki któremu gitary, gdy już się pojawiają, brzmią jeszcze drapieżniej. Najbardziej różni się od nich finałowy "Weak" zaczynający się jak delikatna ballada w stylu Slowdive, szybko jednak zostaje połknięta przez nienasycone gitary. Odlot.

Лиловые Тюльпаны - Двадцать (2017) EN

The short album by the Moscow-based band whose name translates simply to Violet Tulips, makes an interesting shoegaze debut. Despite some minor drawbacks, it seems that the artists have a great potential there.

It's particularly impressive how the project's music is able to combine moody guitars and backing vocals with lively, energetic background. Also the melodies fascinate with their appropriately shoegazish combination of pop freedom and delicate sadness. Undoubtedly it's greatly because of the neurotic vocal sounding as if it was produced together with tears.

The album is short (especially that the last two tracks are not even two minutes long) but hopefully announces more material by the Russians.

Лиловые Тюльпаны - Двадцать (2017) PL

Krótka płyta moskiewskiego projektu, którego nazwę tłumaczy się na Fioletowe Tulipany pokazuje światu ciekawy shoegaze'owy debiut. Mimo kilku niedociągnięć, wydaje się, że potencjał muzyków jest znakomity.

Podoba się zwłaszcza jak muzyka projektu potrafi połączyć nastrojowe gitary i chórki z tańczącym, bardzo żywym podkładem. Także melodie urzekają odpowiednio shoegaze'owym połączeniem popowej swobody i łagodnego smutku. Na pewno dużą zasługę ma w tym neurotyczny wokal brzmiący niemal jakby wydawany był przez łzy. 

Płyta krótka (zwłaszcza, że dwa ostatnie utwory nie mają nawet dwóch minut) ale mam nadzieję, że zapowiada więcej materiału Rosjan.

Nordsind - Efterår (2017) EN

Danish band Nordsind is a real must-listen-to for anyone who loves loud music. They managed to fill  their debut album "Efterår" with as much deafening beauty as possible.

The album is somehow more like an extended EP and leaves the audience still hungry for their music. It is filled with heavy, almost brutal guitars, as raw as the Nordic climate and as epic as the Nordic landscapes. The Danes sketch their breath-taking compositions with loud guitars and paralyzing drums. And moments as the final part of "Tankeresje" force to jerk some tears of thrill.

The fact that the album is heavily devoted to nature is shown in the title itself (efterår meaning autumn) but also in the music, especially in the song entitled just like the album where there are literal torrents of tears.

Nordsind - Efterår (2017) PL

Duńska kapela Nordsind to absolutne must-listen-to dla wszystkich miłośników głośnego grania. Na debiutanckiej płycie "Efterår" muzykom udało się zmieścić tyle ogłuszającego piękna jak to tylko możliwe.

Płyta jest raczej trochę dłuższą epką i gdy się kończy pozostaje trochę niedosytu ale głównie dlatego, że każda jej chwila rozbudza apetyt. Wypełniona jest ona ciężkimi, wręcz brutalnie grającymi gitarami, surowymi jak surowy jest nordycki klimat, epicka jak epickie są nordyckie krajobrazy. Duńczycy kreślą swoje zapierające dech w piersiach kompozycje głośnymi gitarami i paraliżującą w brzmieniu perkusją. A momenty takie jak finał "Tankeresje" zmuszają do ronienia łez wzruszenia.

O tym jak dużo poświęconą na tej płycie naturze świadczy nie tylko tytuł (efterår to jesień) ale też kawałki takie jak tytułowy "Efterår", na którym dosłownie leją się potoki łez.

Denney - home/room EP (2017) EN

The Denney - Adam Norris duo shows on their EP how interesting the combination of poetry and beautiful, dreampop-like music is. Denney writes that he is "too young to be a poet, yet too old to have an imagination". I doubt it's true but if so, it's good that this album is built on poems he created some time ago in high school.

And they are very grown-up. A są one bardzo dojrzałe. "You loved the creator not the product/ Now dear, please love the man I’ve become/ I’m walking out my demons/ I’ll never forgive myself if I brought even one of them home" ("home")  and filled with unique metaphors: I was born to a dying glacier/ My mother melted on me, never could firmly embrace me/ Said my daddy was a snow-capped mountain, and my sis a valley" ("room").

Denney's vocal doesn't sound really typically hip-hoppish. It's more spoken words with no fear of showing emotions. Also the backgrounds are far from what we know as hip-hop ones. They sound as if they were generated in a smoke-filled bar with keys, guitar and automatic drums. And it all fits perfectly.
