Hiki - Closer (2017) EN

Cheerful darkgaze, shoegaze combined with post-metal with generally pleasant, luminous vibe. These are not entirely contradictory statements, they are juxtaposed by B.M., a Russian multi-instrumentalist known as the force behind several projects such as Blurry Lights, Skyforest or A Light In The Dark (last October he released an album as the latter and it is worth checking too). This luminous project here is called Hiki.

Hiki in Japanese means "light", no coincidence here, you can feel it all over the album. The author says this CD is heavier than the previous one but the truth is that the most important force here is cheerful electronic shoegaze with backing vocals and uplifting melodies ("Smile"!). Everything has this lining made of delicate melancholy but it is nothing compared to the overwhelming sadness of Skyforest. The cover is made by an artist known as mB0sco whose graphic is a perfect visualization of Hiki's music. Luminous, pink and light blue sunrise after which there has to be a good day. No other option.

"Closer" costs only 1 USD but if the author's words are to be trusted, it's going to be available for "pay-what-you-want".
