Songes - Prologue (2017) EN

Songes, a mysterious band from the south of France, say almost nothing about themselves. But there's no need since the album they released at the end of the year was one of the best of the dark post-rock 2017 albums.

It starts with a real overture with atmosphere so dense it can be cut with a knife. Slow pace and dark, though not loud yet guitars and keys that create a melody (quite virtuosic at some point) and a choir of damned souls in the background. Perfect aperitif before the rest of the album.

But the blow comes very soon with "Mahmud". that's when the guitars start to be really loud and, it has to be said, extremely interesting with their unique sound. The cooperation guitars-electronics  makes one of the most original sounds I've heard recently. Exciting ways of developing a song ("Mahmud" again), weird noises (the croaking toad in "Filature") or the sound of organs in "L.A. Beat" make the whole thing even less predictable.

If it's only a prologue, I can't wait for the main course.

"Prologue" costs whatever you want to pay.
