Ex Girls - Ex Girls (2020) EN

Hailing from Milan, Ex Girls released their debut material in February on an EP simply called Ex Girls. We could expect there a musical combination of the genres of such bands as "Slowdive, Red House Painters, The Notwist, Sonic Youth". Let's see.

First thing you notice is how peaceful and non-pushy the music here is. It's mostly about the exceptionally subtle and airy vocal from the duo of two Francesos: Brancato and Negri, who feel really well in this very guitar-oriented but also mostly slow and relaxing music. There's one place though, Short Time Delay where the dream pop peace turns suddenly towards very guitar shoegaze  with its jerking, loud music backgrounds. After this, there's dream pop again and I have to say at this point, the more shoegaze the better. Nevertheless, still a really interesting debut.

Mediolański zespół Ex Girls wydał w lutym debiutancki materiał na EP-ce zatytułowanej po prostu Ex Girls. Można się na niej spodziewać muzycznej wypadkowej stylów takich zespołów jak "Slowdive, Red House Painters, The Notwist, Sonic Youth". Sprawdzamy.

Pierwsze co się rzuca w uszy to jak spokojna i nienarzucająca się jest to muzyka. Przede wszystkim chodzi tu o niezwykle subtelny i eteryczny wokal duetu Francesów Brancato i Negriego, który znakomicie odnajduje się w bardzo gitarowej, ale też najczęściej powolnej i relaksacyjnej muzyce. Inaczej jest jednak w Short Time Delay, w którym to kawałku dotychczasowy dream pop gwałtownie skręca w stronę mocno gitarowego shoegaze'u z jego szarpiącymi i głośnymi muzycznymi tłami. Później jest znowu bardziej dreampopowo i od razu mówię, im bardziej w shoegaze tym lepiej! Niemniej, wciąż interesujący debiut.
