Eveleen - falling rain and the light will take you there (2025)

Seta Respati creates his music as Eveleen and he has been doing it for over ten years now. Still, released last December album is his long-play debut so it's worth celebrating. He says that he "make[s] some noise, some people called it art" and I would be one of those "some people" since the single From Me To You I mentioned in here back in 2018.

I love it when I listen to one-person post-rock projects and am unable to say if it's really done by only one artist. This is the case with the Indonesian artist. His post-rock is delicate and skillfully crafted, it's definitely more about creating small gems of melodies than overwhelming with sound. The relaxing sounds feel like lying down on grass and experiencing the world around you from the safe and content position. The inclusion of piano keys that sound like glockenspiel in my ears, only adds to this feeling, making me think of the most relaxed tracks from Sigur Rós (yes, that's why I like dawn: an ascension the most).

So sit back, relax and get transported to the beautiful soundscapes provided by the talented artist from the far away land of Indonesia.

Ben Haskins - Dinner Party (2022)

I thoroughly enjoyed Ben Haskins' 2021 album Oh Believers, Run! and it seems that the Canadian artist is a real machine to make good post-rock releases, especially that he shows them very often: Dinner Party is already the second one this year. And it may as well be the best one yet.

Although this is a solo post-rock enterprise, the way Haskins generate the attention-grabbing atmosphere is one of the kind. His music is not very loud and noisy but it seduces the audience with the flow and easy-listening synth backgrounds making it sort of a post-rock trip-hop combination. This makes the album run like a mountain spring, even if it's not the fastest music either. The album is structured like the title's party - it starts with a promising aperitif goes through the main course and everything a (Victorian?) fancy dinner should involve. And what it really shouldn't. The most important thing is though that no guest will leave it unsatisfied, that's for sure.

Dinner Party costs 5.5 EUR (7 CAD).

Darkfield - Reanimated Voices (2022)

Joey Westerlund already appeared on this blog two years ago with his album Carry Us Away. This year it's time for the third position in his discography with the new release called Reanimated Voices.

His solo post-rock music is based on the rough electric guitar sounds that contrast the very prog rock-like keyboard tunes. It's both dark and rocky and beautiful at the same time. The main theme for the album is said to be mental health, "emotions you feel or "voices" that you hear during various moments and periods of your life" - according to the artist's words. As the title of the first song suggests: it's all about chemicals, but the complex structures of the compositions on the album hint that there's way more to the topic. As in Copacetic where the attractive key notes are being devoured by very satisfying and loud guitars only to soon get back to the calm in Divided. However, the most interesting things happen towards the end of the album with Control's very modern feel and World Eater's satisfying crescendo.

Reanimated Voices costs 8 USD.

Bardia Haddad - As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm (2021)

The Swansea-born but residing in Iran artist appeared already on the blog with his beautiful single release Fly/Burn. The instrumental ambient/post-rock-like music is now being followed up with a new EP called As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm.

Haddad started as a metal artist in VitaPhobia but he continues his career under his own name making slightly quieter music. It's balancing on the verge of instrumental ambient and guitar post-rock, getting close to post-metal from time to time. There's tones of mystery and atmosphere here, mostly provided by heavier guitar sounds that channel the storm and heavy weather phenomena alluded to by the album's title. The coming and passing of a storm is actually the concept behind the whole album and it can be easily felt: the long compositions change the pace frequently and feel quite chaotic in a good, surprising sense, but the main plan behind the album is clear: the tension goes up and then is being released (although even the final act gives us the feeling of ecstasy rather than peace).

As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm costs whatever you want to pay.

Darkfield - Carry Us Away (2020) EN

Joey Westerlund from Portland is better known as Darkfield, under a moniker of which the post-rocker has just released the second album called Carry Us Away.

I must admit that sometimes his music is too much based on rock-metal riffs for my taste like in Echoes), but in the end, he achieves his goals. Because at the same time he shows the whole range of post-rock music including keys and cinematic massiveness (Halcyon) and non-overwhelming electronics (Phoenix Down) as well as, and this may be the most important thing, impressive noise (Bloom).

The especially exciting part is the album's finish with the loud Ares and exceptionally airy, not to say sacral sounds of the final Back to the Sky. Quality music.

Carry Us Away costs 8 USD.

Darkfield - Carry Us Away (2020) PL

Ekscytująca jest zwłaszcza końcówka z głośnym Ares i nadzwyczaj eterycznym, żeby nie powiedzieć sakralnym w brzmieniu finałowym Back to the Sky. Jakościowe granie.

Abehrum - Ineffable (2019) EN

Abehrum is a solo project by the Hungarian musician József Tóth. You should remember this name as his new album, released after four years after the previous one, called Ineffable is at least very good.

Wherever on the album you look at, there's a lot of world class post-rock. One of the best reasons to support this claim is that absolutely doesn't sound like being made by one person. What's more, it's so much loaded with epic and powerful moments that it could sell it to many full-line-up bands (especially in the title track Ineffable!). Tóth doesn't hold on solid, legit rock riffs but also doesn't overdoes it, avoiding turning Ineffable into a most complicated finger-on-a-string figure competition (which I personally strongly dislike). Good job in this fact is done by heavy and sometimes incredibly unsettling bass line (Hiraeth) gluing the Hungarian's ideas together into one whole.

Ineffable costs 6 USD.

Abehrum - Ineffable (2019) PL

Abehrum to solowy projekt węgierskiego muzyka Józsefa Tótha.

Dużą rolę odgrywa w dodatku tłusta i miejscami niepokojąca linia basu (Hiraeth) spinająca pomysł Węgra w jedną całość.

Escape From 1984 - The Flower (2019) EN

Escape From 1984 is a project for which responsible is the Petersburg-based artist Mikhail Churyumov. His music can be seen as post-rock with some clearly noticeable post-punk vibes. Check it out on the album called The Flower.

The project's name is of course taken from George Orwell's 1984. For the artist it's a way to escape the nowadays reality that more and more reflects the one from the famous dystopia. It's also "an island, where nobody can't keep watch over your thoughts". Clear and perhaps too much on the nose, but maybe this is what it should be now.

Churyumov's music comprises of somewhat traditional post-rock while the post-punk vibes are mostly around the music. Some more interesting moments include the final part of The Flower, Pt. 2 (Purpose) with its impressive solo,  the atmospheric These Trees Will Rise Again and finally the soothing down in Look at the Sky Tonight. All Shining Stars Have a Soul.

The Flower costs 4 USD.

Escape From 1984 - The Flower (2019) PL

Nazwa projektu to oczywiste nawiązanie do 1984 George'a Orwella.

Kilka najbardziej interesujących momentów to końcówka The Flower, Pt. 2 (Purpose) z efektownym solo,  klimatyczny These Trees Will Rise Again czy wygaszenie płyty w Look at the Sky Tonight. All Shining Stars Have a Soul.

the sleep and memory fader - amos (2019) EN

The solo project from the artist, who reveals only his first name, Raul, intrigued me from its beginning with the melodic and engaging instrumental music. Let's listen to it on the new release called amos.

The fantastic thing about it is that you don't feel it's a solo project when you listen to the album. Everything, starting form the drums and guitars and up to keys sounds like it should in a post-rock project. There's no super high pace but it's also not some sad soundscapes, everything is well balanced so the listener can feel intrigued by the ideas behind it and the way they are performed.

The best fragments I found are the keyboard moments in the title track amos, drowned in basses and rhythmic drums beginnings of recon á and the very synth sound of suffe

amos costs whatever you want to pay.

the sleep and memory fader - amos (2019) PL

Najlepiej brzmią chyba fragmenty klawiszowe w tytułowym amos, utopione w basie i rytmicznym bębnie początki recon á i bardzo synthowe brzmienie suffe

Deer Park Ranger - Wolf (2019) EN

Deer Park Ranger or Trevor Humphrey had been a guest on the blog a couple of times already. And no wonder as he is one of the most talented American artists creating solo post-rock. And he proves it once again on this year's album called Wolf.

Humphrey combines here two souls of post-rock: some tracks are more rock-like, inspiring with their guitar riffs and high-paced melodies (Rose Tinted Evil Red, Patchwork People). But some are also crushingly atmospheric and filled with noise and emotions. And the latter surely includes the most interesting track here Lost the Thread.  The whole album is finished with an ultra-moody ballad The World Will Never Find You delivering some atmospheric keys.

Wolf costs 9.99 USD.

Deer Park Ranger - Wolf (2019) PL

I nic dziwnego, bo to jeden z najbardziej utalentowanych amerykańskich artystów tworzących solowy post-rock. Udowadnia to na tegorocznej płycie Wolf.

Humphrey łączy na niej dwie dusze post-rocka: niektóre kawałki są bardziej rockowe, ujmujące gitarowymi riffami i szybkimi melodiami (Rose Tinted Evil Red, Patchwork People). Niektóre natomiast olśniewają przygniatająco epicką atmosferą i głośnym, emocjonalnym graniem. Wśród tych ostatnich na pewno jest Lost the Thread.  Całość zamyka natomiast ultra-nastrojowa ballada The World Will Never Find You wypełniona klimatycznymi dzwonkami.
