Skyglow - Skyglow (2022)

The four-piece band from Germany, Skyglow, made their debut four years ago with a very promising self-titled debut EP. Finally, the time has come for the second release and they decided to go with... another EP called Skyglow, that's something I haven't seen before!

Also their music is shaped in a similar way: it's clear that the band know what they want to play and what emotions to evoke in the audience. The very much OG post-rock guitar-based melodic passages meet here with heavier, hard-rock-like guitar avalanches of sound. And so the listener enjoys a well-written and energetic composition only to get eventually lost within the realm of darker, more massive audio figures. Those changes of pace and atmosphere are what drives this music and what generates my excitement, especially in the pinnacle moments like the mathrock-like sections in Targ or the broken finish of Jaguar Floppy, very much in the 65daysofstatic style. The post-rock from the Germans is many things and combines a lot of sub-genres resulting in a work from the highest level of energetic entertainment.

And so it happened, this is yet another truly great post-rock band from Germany appearing on Łabandzi Śpiew. Skyglow is a four-men collective from Göttingen formed by Kilian, Alex, Wilke i Falk, who released their debut album in March. And their "Skyglow" shows a stylish side of post-rock music.

It is an accomplishment when you are able to combine beautiful music with aggression and high pace. Skyglow do that in a range of tracks  the composition variety and ever changing pace of which won't let you get bored even for a second. And so we have storms of guitars ("Larnaca"!) and fragments of peace and surprising speeding ups ("City of Fools") and ear crushing steamrollers of aggressive sounds (greatly destructive "Going West").

The whole things sounds like high quality post-rock spiced up with some extra pugnacity and zest. The sounds generated by the Germans get right through the ears and throw their own eerie party inside your head.

No i stało się, oto kolejny na Łabandzim Śpiewie post-rockowy zespół zza naszej zachodniej granicy, który daje prawdziwego czadu. Skyglow to kwartet Göttingen tworzony przez Kiliana, Aleksa, Wilke i Falka, który wydał w marcu debiutancką płytę. I "Skyglow" pokazuje stylowe oblicze gitarowej muzyki.

Sztuką jest połączyć piękną muzykę z szybkim tempem i agresją. Skyglow się to udaje w szeregu utworów, których zróżnicowane kompozycje i zmieniające się co chwile tempo nie pozwalają nudzić się ani przez chwilę. Mamy więc i nawałnice gitar ("Larnaca"!) i chwilę przestoju ku zaczerpnięciu tchu i zaskakujące przyspieszanie tempa ("City of Fools") i miażdżenie uszu walcem agresywnych dźwięków (znakomicie destrukcyjne "Going West").

Całość brzmi jak post-rock z wysokiej półki doprawiony szczyptą extra zadziorności i animuszu. Dźwięki generowane przez Niemców wbijają się w uszy i tworzą w nich swoje własne, pokrzywione party.

"Skyglow" można mieć za ile zdecydujesz się zapłacić.
