Saba Alizadeh - Temple of Hope (2025)

Saba Alizadeh creates music that is politically-involved and commenting on social matters. And as he is from Iran, you know that it is not going to be an easy-listening album. On his third album, Temple of Hope, the experimental musician talks about the issues in an extremely interesting and poignant way, even if he doesn't use many words.

"How can a sense of beauty be found amidst fear and cruelty", asks his Bandcamp account and I have to say, his post0industrial electronic soundscapes are far from the self-reflecting ambient pieces I usually listen to. Instead, they are filled with nerve-wrecking, thrilling sounds that come and go. There is the sense of danger and darkness as he "transforms the events during the >>Woman Life Freedom<< movement, as well as the struggles of the population in previous years, into poignant electro-acoustic music".

I said that he uses a few words and it's true: Alizadeh himself uses Kamancheh, a traditional, string instrument the sound of which is heavily transformed into the noisy, industrial output used to create the soundscapes. On some of the tracks, there are vocals though. They are provided by guest artists from Iran (Iran-born Sanam Maroufkhani) and from the Western World (Austrian Andreas Spechtl) and I have to say, the charm and beauty mentioned before can be found mostly in those places. The temples of hope.

Temple of Hope costs 8 EUR.

AtonalitA - Collaboration of Souls (2023)

I know Siamak Ghorbanian Aghdam, from his previous album as AtonalitA, as a solo artist who combines post-rock music with the sounds of violin. However, it seems that he doesn't want to work only on his own as his new album, fittingly called Collaboration of Souls, offers a broad variety of unique collabs.

The thing that immediately draws attention is certainly the list of guest musicians. It includes tones of either solo post-rockers (the abyss inside us, The Glass Pavilion) or lesser known bands (like my compatriots from YENISEI). This is a prime selection from the underground post-rock world (literally from all around the globe). As on his solo works, violin is what drives the compositions enriching them with this hard-to-miss nostalgic and beautiful atmosphere. They are accompanied by mostly acoustic and not-that-overwhelming post-rock music, but this means that the violin is only better audible.

Collaboration of Souls costs 3 USD.

Bardia Haddad - As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm (2021)

The Swansea-born but residing in Iran artist appeared already on the blog with his beautiful single release Fly/Burn. The instrumental ambient/post-rock-like music is now being followed up with a new EP called As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm.

Haddad started as a metal artist in VitaPhobia but he continues his career under his own name making slightly quieter music. It's balancing on the verge of instrumental ambient and guitar post-rock, getting close to post-metal from time to time. There's tones of mystery and atmosphere here, mostly provided by heavier guitar sounds that channel the storm and heavy weather phenomena alluded to by the album's title. The coming and passing of a storm is actually the concept behind the whole album and it can be easily felt: the long compositions change the pace frequently and feel quite chaotic in a good, surprising sense, but the main plan behind the album is clear: the tension goes up and then is being released (although even the final act gives us the feeling of ecstasy rather than peace).

As the Remaining Shreds Quiver in the Afterthought of a Storm costs whatever you want to pay.

Sun Addicted Family - Solar Dreams (2020) EN

They play together since 2017, their interests involve "Space, Romance, Depression", their goal is to "take you where it all began". The Seena Arya-Harpag Karnik duo hailing form Iran at the beginning of the year released a super interesting, blackgaze-filled album called Solar Dreams.

With their cosmic, very noise blackgaze they mean to bring back the "hazy memories of humans in outer space". They are very consistent in their theme, just take a look at the cover art taken from Rouzbeh Rashidi's experimental movie Ten Years in the Sun.They create a unique type of blackgaze - there's little metal guitar and metal power as the compositions are based on synthesizers and their oneiric atmosphere.

On the other hand, the vocals are typically withdrawn, hidden in the background but very black-metal screamings contrasting well with the light, melodic sounds of synths. This uniqueness attracts to the project and forces to dive into the dreamy-cosmic atmosphere proving at the same time the strength of the Iran's off music scene..

Solar Dreams costs 4 GBP.

Sun Addicted Family - Solar Dreams (2020) PL

Grają od 2017 roku, ich zainteresowania obejmują "Przestrzeń, Romans, Depresję", mają za zadanie "will take you where it all began".

Porya Hatami | Aaron Martin | Roberto Attanasio - Sallaw (2019) PL

Z połączonych sił trzech artystów: Poryi Hatamiego z Iranu, Aarona Martina z Kansas i Roberto Attanasio z Włoch powstała fantastycznie klimatyczna płyta pełna najwyższej klasy ambientu. Oto Sallaw.

Tymczasem muzyka to przepiękny, choć raczej tradycyjny ambient.

Porya Hatami | Aaron Martin | Roberto Attanasio - Sallaw (2019) EN

The joined power of three artists: Porya Hatami from Iran, Aaron Martin from Kansas and Roberto Attanasio from Italy produced a fantastically atmospheric album filled with world-class ambient. This is Sallaw.

The album's title, just like the titles of each track is in Kurdish language, just for anyone for whom there was not enough of the culture mixture already. Meanwhile, the music is beautiful, although rather traditional ambient. There's a lot of tension built with the omnipresent noise in the backgrounds. There's also sadness provided by the lamenting strings and rainy keys. And finally, there is also a lot of music emotions that can hardly be found in other similar projects.

Sallaw costs 7 EUR.

Crows In The Rain - Little Girl And Lost Blossom (2017) EN

Post-rock from Iran. Not sure why, but I thought that it's gonna be very rough guitar sound and wild noise but reality couldn't be more different. Crows In The Rain's music is beautiful and spiritual, as they put it, "it's sound to feel". This year's album (with very attractive cover) proves it right.

We are presented with extremely moody album in which background full of tension meet epic, bombastic drums and quiet keys sounding like sobbing child. Or rain. And when violins appear, my souls melts instantly. I'm sure this was the band's foul aim from the very beginning. The whole thing sounds like made for movies (one of the tracks' title suggests it anyway). If you buy it, it can enchant you. If you don't, you can laugh a little about bombastic visions from the Persians.

"Little Girl And Lost Blossom" costs 7 USD.

Crows In The Rain - Little Girl And Lost Blossom (2017) PL

Post-rock z Iranu.

Albo deszczu. A gdy zaczynają rozbrzmiewać skrzypce, wtedy moja dusza się roztapia. Z pewnością o to niecnemu zespołowi chodziło.

"Little Girl And Lost Blossom" kosztuje 29 złotych (7 USD).
