La Naissance means the birth, no wonder the Italian band decided to entitle their debut album in this way. The Romans filled it with loud and melodic shoegaze, full of rapid guitars and airy vocals.
A bit lo-fi in the realization, the album surprises with how well the musician's ideas were transformed into music. The songs are both polished and well-written. The shoegaze as seen by the Italians is based on loud guitar sounds but they don't crush the audience like the ones created by the band's compatriots from Rev Rev Rev do. It's more like a good rock with changed proportions, the foreground is occupied by instruments while the delicate male vocal is hidden somewhere in the background.
For me the best track is would be "How Is It Going To End?" in which the melody meets the loudness in the best possible point. I hope for more from the Romans soon as it is one of the most promising debuts of the last weeks.
