TVAM - Ruins (2026)

Joe Oxley uses the moniker of TVAM to create a curious blend of electronica, post-punk and dreamy music that is also extremely catchy at the same time. On his third record Ruins, roughly half of the songs could easily become radio hits (if radios were any good these days), which is a fantastic recommendation to try this oneiric banger machine.

The darkwavey vibes, the post-punky vibes, the dream poppy vibes: everything is present on Ruins, Oxley clearly draws from various sources, having fun with concocting the perfect mixtures for music lovers. The Words Real Life, or my favourite Follow Me Home are the catchiest thing you can imagine. But at the same time, the album is meant to reflect the pain of grief and the "strange beauty that comes with it", a curious form of a disco music for dead inside, a dance setlist for lonely and lost. Follow Me Home is just the darkest thing you can lose yourself on the dancefloor to and I love it. In his own words, the artist's music refers to memories and fears of the audience which, for me, is a perfect explanation why dream pop and post-punk meet here.

David Boring - Liminal Beings and Their Echoes (2026)

Post-punk so energetic that makes you move uncontrollably and so catchy that could almost be heard on a radio? And coming from such an exotic place (from my perspective) as Hong Kong? BANGER! I'm so glad I discovered the exciting weirdness of David Boring just in time to feature their sophomore album on the blog.

It's not like the whole almost an hour long album is filled with adrenaline-fueling high-pulse music. Surprisingly, when you focus on this, most of the album is about the moody and intriguing parts that are slower but equally satisfying. But when the whole thing ends, you remember the moments that make you jump like crazy. In fact, the latter wouldn't really work without the former. I love the changes of pace between dark and moody Jenny Rotten, fantastically catchy Earth Song and the ballad in Visit Me (Cabin Song). So we have the dark, the catchy and the moody. And the whole album can be described in this way. Like going in and out of the best disco of your life.

There is also an element of the wild and angry noise somewhere there which makes the project on pair with noisy pop projects like Poppy but clearly more post-punk in origins than metal-adjacent. Anyway, I hear here also KOKOKO (again, in my favourite Earth Song) and a multitude of other influences and every one of them is amazing. And I haven't even mentioned the charisma-dripping vocalist who blends in with the genre changes effortlessly. Fantastic album.

Kielichy - Punkty płonące (2026)

"Melancholia, Misanthropy, Melody", this is the whole description of the Polish project Kielichy ("Chalices"). But it's also everything it needs. The Wrocław-based band walks among alternative genres with grace, taking a lot from folk and post-punk, but ultimately creating something very, very theirs. But it's also a goodbye of some sorts.

The short EP makes the second longer entry in the band's discography after the self-titled EP from two years ago. This one feels like a continuation of the debut, but also a level up for me. Adrian Szczecina's deep voice automatically adds a lot of darkness (and darkwaveness) to the whole project that marries folk's lyrics-writing and sensibility with alternative guitar music. I must say that my favourite part of this music is the sound of the guitars here: the darkness just emanates from their low-pitched, calm but also unnerving presence. Black Heart Procession's vibes all over the place.

But also i is said that the band aims at changing their signature sound, moving away from the neofolk vibes towards... Yeah, who knows? The EP's last song, Morze Czarne ("The Black Sea") is a clear statement on this style shift. It doesn't reveal the destination, but verses like "We have to destroy some things finally/To create new places" tell a lot. I'm very curious here cause the artists clearly know how to draw inspiration from various genres to make something poignant and dark so I'm not worried. As they sing: "Let us sail. We'll find ourselves alone in the middle of the sea".

Chalk - Crystalpunk (2026)

The Ulster band became a sensation with only three EPs ever released, but this is history now as the Ross Cullen - Benedict Goddard duo are finally releasing their debut album and it's as good as could be expected. The powerful music that blends post-punk, industrial and several other exciting genres leaves mark after the very first listening session. Welcome to Crystalpunk.

The music here marries various kinds of electronic and guitar music: the dark and the darker. The industrial vibes are all over the place, the electronic parts are designed to overwhelm you while make you dance like a psycho at the same time. It's the kind of a sound you feel with every inch of your body. The high-pulse compositions are the core of this release: high pace and angry, chaotic post-punk vocals do their job so well! And I can't even say which songs are best here, all I know is that the artists are really good at picking the single tracks.

But there is more to the album than only the adrenaline-fueled hits. The uncomfortable lyrics sound best when screamed out, no wonder that the word "pain" appears everywhere at the release, mostly referring to the emotional struggles the artists lived through. As the description of the album goes, it was inspired by "the beauty, confusion, complexity, and intensity of [the artists'] youth – lived under the shadow and around the scars of conflict. In many ways it reminds me of Glasvegas' lyrics even if musically the two couldn't be much different. The duo is planned to come to OFF festival being one of the major reasons for me to go there too this year.

Softcult - When a Flower Doesn't Grow (2026)

Whenever the Arn-Horn sisters release an album, it makes a storm in the less mainstream music world. The Canadian duo and their skillfully crafted songs (and very coherent image) charm the audience with the blend of dreaminess and punk's attitude, making the artists call their music "riotgaze".

And I feel like this riotgaze gets better and better with every release so it's only apt that the debut album (so far the band has only EPs in their discography) is their best work yet. As things should be. Short album with short songs the range of whose stretches from delicate, dreamy compositions to high-paced shoegaze indie rock of the best quality. The latter is represented by my favourite in here: 16/25. Incredible flow, the backgrounds that burst with energy and quality melody make it feel like a breeze, wishing it was longer than two minutes, thirty seconds. But that's the thing about this music: it's short and beautiful. Hurry loving the music.

But there is more! She Said, He Said is a hit banger, Hurt Me is the sisters embracing their punk side while When a Flower Doesn't Grow closes the album with delicate, airy sounds that turns into the most rock sounds on the release. Oh and very punkish of them is also that...

adele dazeem - Metanoia (2025)

They are named after actress and singer Idina Menzel (whose first name was famously mispronounced by John Travolta, resulting in her using "Adele" in multiple occasions afterwards), they come from London and they released their first EP last autumn. This blend of shoegazey atmosphere and post-punk vibes caught my attention immediately.

The EP is short, but still it's clearly well done: there are parts that are noisy, there are parts filled with darker, coldwave approach to music, there are some curious instrumental parts too. Their compositions are designed to go on and on, mesmerizing the audience with the harsh trance-inducing passages and overwhelming with noisy guitars. I'm very happy that the musicians don't consider the end of lyrics as the end of their songs: I'd say that in this case, the songs really start after the post-punk vocals disappear. But it's only my instrumental-noise bias probably.

SPRINTS - All That Is Over (2025)

Give me Irish post-punk any time of a day and I will gladly accept it. Especially after last year's abundance of great releases within the genre. But if you add a deal of guitar noise to the picture, I'm immediately sold. This is the case of the sophomore album from the Dubliners of SPRINTS where the spirit is post-punk, but the music provides a significantly loud experience.

The band acknowledges a slight shift in their music by saying that the new release "pushes the dynamics of the band into richer territory, finding new space and nuance but also going harder than ever". And so the songs here are fast and short, hitting like some well-addressed punk punches with energy fueled by aggressive guitar sounds and extremely catchy melodies. But underneath it all, the artists incorporated meaty and noisy layers of guitars, a real and rarely found treat for the fans of noise rock.

I feel like the structure of most of the tracks is also richer and more interesting than at your obvious post-punkers. It's more the IDLES-like songwriting with changes in pace and volume (so great in Something's Gonna Happen) and other clever little tricks that make the album stand out. Also, I love how in Pieces, the guitar riff is so similar to... one from the Polish legendary post-punk band Klaus Mitffoch (from their song Muł pancerny), but I know it's a special thing only for me and a handful other people worldwide.

Meena - Different Now (2025)

A blend of genres that gives birth to a concoction that is as airy as it is catchy? Count me in! The Manchester-based Meena has released three EP before their long-play debut, but this is the day now! Or it was in August. Nevertheless, Different Now is hell of an album.

"An incomparably intricate wonderfully listenable burst of mayhem, beautiful delicate sounds woven in a cathartic wave" says the band when asked what they play. I say that the intimate layer of oneiric music, mostly due to the extremely ear-pleasing vocals, is definitely there, mayhem I don't hear. But it doesn't matter as the vocals are accompanied by an artistic blend of electronic music, rock music, trip-hop music, post-punk music. You know how sometimes you see something you know was made out of different elements, but you don't see it at first glance? I have this with this album. 

The electronic sounds in the backgrounds sometimes create melodies but sometimes give out some of the post-punk's roughness (like in Money), which sometimes feel restricted in the trip-hop-like beats. I like artful complications and this is exactly what I get here.

Bezsenna - We mgle (2025)

Ah, yes, a good and fresh Polish post-punk, haven't seen that for a while. Although Bezsenna are called like a dream pop band (meaning "sleepless" for a female person), they are in fact energetic and rebellious (at least against the horrors of human existence) artists who are here to make use of some impressive guitar riffs.

While the structures of the songs and the vocals are very much (post-)punk in vibes, the real gold can be found underneath them. Don't get me wrong, I like the lyrics, they seem more focused on the ridiculous elusiveness of human's life and interpersonal relationships, which I find more universal and generally more interesting than punk's usual anti-system attire. But what I like the most is the modern approach to music that plays in the backgrounds. It is so catchy and modern-sounding that it may almost be indie rock-like. In the positive sense of course. I like this mix of punk's alternativeness and indie's approachable nature, makes the music potentially closer to bigger audience. I will be looking at the band's career with big interest.

Golden Hours - Golden Hours (2023)

Golden Hours may have just released their first album ever, but this is a band that involves a lot of talent and experience. Made up from musicians known from such bands as Gang Of Four, The Brian Jonestown Massacre or The Third Sound, the supergroup delivers their memorable post-punk music on the self-titled debut.

Everything here is as supposed: the compositions are based on very post-punk bass lines and very post-punk vocals (by The Third Sound's Hákon Adalsteinsson) but with extremely noisy guitars that spice everything up. Not to mention the catchy melodies that should make all the post-punkers out there dance and dance from the very first sounds to the last. And this all works also with slower tracks where the band focus on the noisy and unsettling atmosphere that in Dead On sounds like a lonely night on a cemetery. This album may just be the very essence of the slightly darker post-punk music and everyone should check it out.

Uniforms - Trance (2023)

Three years after their last album called Fantasía moral, the Spanish noise pop outfit Uniforms are back with their third ever LP. And Trance really induces this kind of melodic and noisy, but also a bit post-punk in some aspects, entertaining trance.

Those post-punk influences are mostly audible in the distinct bass lines and vocals that, form time to time, sound like taken from some female-led punk band - there's no screaming but some of the almost spoken word vocals certainly feel like it. However, this all is swamped with noisy guitars and dense, but energetic and melodic, music. That said, the Spanish can as easily go into different direction with indie pop ballads like Dusky, where the main focus is put on the vocals themselves. But the guitar compositions are definitely more numerous here. I appreciate how the band can create melodic songs but still accent the might of the guitar-fueled noise. Or transform their style into an adrenaline-filled run with a perfect flow in I Quit.

Give Up to Failure - COCOON (2023)

The Wrocław-based group Give Up to Failure is one of the few bands I know that successfully combine post-punk and post-rock genres. Their music is dark in two different ways and it works very well together. Three years after their debuting release Burden, they are back with something very special on COCOON.

It's really easy to sense what it meant for the band to finish this release. They state that "This album is blood, tears and rain for us (...). This album was supposed to be the beginning, and it became the end of a certain stage" and so the lineup of the outfit is going to change right now so the album is already a snapshot of the history of Polish underground music. The uniqueness of the band comes from their flexible approach to music genres. While the music is set in the extremely dark and gloomy kind of post-rock heaviness, the vocals make it closer to, depending on the song or even fragment of a song, the coldness of post-punk or the warmth of dream pop. I especially like when the soft but emotional ones lead the audience into the tear-jerking, melancholic place that is made of synthy and guitar-heavy noise (as in Sleepwalk).

The hypnotic darkness gets even more seductive in the single track Slow Collapse where the listener is enchanted by the tribal-like magical chanting. But, in truth, the whole album is mesmerizing, from the livelier beginnings to the hazy, noisy with the guitar overload finish.

Pastry - Cyan Fabrics with Stains on Them (2022)

Indie rock meets noisy inspirations, this is the Polish band of Pastry. Coming from the Tricity region on the Baltic sea, the band showed their debut LP called Cyan Fabrics with Stains on Them towards the end of the last year.

The fast, melodic songs show how well indie rock can coexist with noisy and dreamy elements. The vocals are, for the most part, properly distorted, the guitars noisy and enthusiastic. On this album, the artists changed their sound a bit towards slightly heavier, darker notes and I feel it makes their melodic music slightly unnerving and exciting (so well audible in Mute). It is especially tangible in more experimental tracks, like in Black with the spoken word vocals that turn into mesmerizing chanting. This marks the post-punk inspirations in the overall more noisy music from the Polish outfit.

Catástrofe Club - El crecimiento infinito (2022)

Catástrofe Club are from Catalonia and make some super interesting post-punk-like eclectic music. The Josep Maria Herrera-David Molina duo are self-proclaimed "portraitists of the global catastrophe" who "compose and create with a particular sense of tragicomedy" and with an impressive approach to mixing genres in order to create a poignant message in an attractive form, just as it is on their new album.

El crecimiento infinito is the final part of their long play trilogy. My first thought when listening to this album was to check if this was a side project of Oscar D'Aniello a.k.a. Delafé, Spanish indie pop slash spoken word hip-hop artist the first albums of whom I really enjoyed back in the day. It's obviously not, but Herrera's voice and, most importantly, the spoken word way of "singing" bears strong resemblance here. However, the project, although very melodic, is far from a chill indie pop: it's post-punk delivered in various unique ways, so unfamiliar for the genre. The flow and catchiness of pop music and the lively electronica the compositions are built on are not your typical post-punk accessories.

However the whole theme they point the audience at, as they "question the individual, but in a somewhat calmer way, accepting the collapse and fatality of a social tragedy as something certain and inevitable that can only be contemplated", the collapse that has many reasons, but most importantly the consumptive way of life and the heavy but clever critique the artists employ, is taken right from the post-punk handbooks. So is the overall minimalism and slower pace that create this fantastic atmosphere within which the mesmerizing spoken word phrases go on and on and drill into the listener's mind.

Monochromatic Visions - REFORM (2022)

Five years ago, the London-based Monochromatic Visions released their self-titled debut EP and thus debuted also on my blog. Now, one album and five years later, it's time for their second long play called REFORM.

Unlike the title of the album suggests, there's not much reformation in the duo's music: it's still all about the post-punk's legacy filtered by a healthy dose of psychedelic noise. It feels cold with very audible bass lines encapsulated by very noisy guitars. On top of that, the vocals are situated and those are so very much in the line of post-punk genre. Also, the compositions are usually quite short, another inspiration from the punk's subgenres. Recorded during the pandemics, the release's "themes explore the process of untethering from the past to evolve and reform into a better version of one’s self", so well noticeable in Lost: "lost inside/ found outside/ past accept/ craft your time". And it does sound super optimistic for the coldwave music but I guess even post-punkers want to feel loved.

Skuund - Social Animal (2022)

As far as I know, it is the second Polish band that is being released by one of my favourite labels, Shore Dive Records. Skuund are from the Northern Poland and successfully combine at least two guitar-based genres, something that is all too well visible at their second (and first one recorded in English) album called Social Animal. 

This is either unorthodox post-punk or unorthodox noise rock. The album opens with a post-rock-like intro that offers a good deal of engaging guitar music, but it is followed by Alaska (my favourite track here) that is reigned by the Martin Howard's post-punk vocals (with a hint of Editors' Tom Smith) and socially engaged lyrics. This song is the best show case of the band's fantastic ability to write super catchy melodies that, at the same time, are strikingly moody and gloomy. Often based on repeated phrases (like in You Can't Hide Forever), with lyrics that usually point at the listener, engaging them even more. The vocals, the melodies, but also the quality of the guitars' sound is top-notch. I'd say this is what drove me to this album, the heaviness and dark energy that flows out of the instrumental parts with It Wasn't What You Took and Bad Days as the best examples.

Crows - Beware Believers (2022)

Three years after their debut album, Silver Tongues, the London-based Crows are coming back with the energetic followup in Beware Believers. Their post-punk is dark and gloomy but also fast as hell and very much dance-inducing. 

No wonder that the album was released by Fuzz Club. There's everything that can make you excited for an album there: super catchy and melodic compositions, post-punk's direct way of saying what's wrong in our lives, the noise rock's buzzing guitars and very expressive vocalist. In some parts they sound like Third Sound, in other like The Horrors: they don't shy away from creating a real guitar-centered noise bliss while still focusing on the post-punk-like vibes in the way they compose their short but intense songs and the way James Cox leads the audience with his distinct voice. On this postponed (due to the pandemics) album, the artists show their frustration with the British politics and Brexit decision, a topic which today, in the shortly living information era, seems to be yesterday's news but in reality still negatively affects tons of areas of our lives, not only in UK.

The label's compact description of the album is "loud, cathartic and abrasive" while Cox adds that it "felt like a marathon, a real endurance test that’s been a long winding road...". But it's such a good thing they managed to get through the road as the album is truly one of the best ones within the genre this year, with instant hits like Only Time, Healing, and Meanwhile making their way into my personal playlists with ease.

Bad Light District - Brak Oczekiwań (2022)

The Kraków's band Bad Light District function on the Polish scene for years now, although I discovered them through their fourth album Lucky Blood Moon. Three years later, the band continues their unique music path with a short release called Brak oczekiwań ("No expectations").

Their music can't really be called post-punk with its complex and artsy compositions. But there is one thing that certainly comes from post-punk (and punk)'s legacy: the anti-establishment and social critique-heavy lyrics. I love the band's creative approach to language: the lyrics in all of their tracks are filled with clever play on words that is not only decorative but also designed to convey messages that are important to understand the whole thing: the most striking being "podstęp cywilizacyjny" in one of the tracks title being a play on the phrase "civilization progress" and "deception". So its chorus that goes "It all looks perfect/ from a distance" makes a fine and unsurprising comment on the world we know around us.

This also means that the almost-spoken word vocals really sound like poetry, especially that the synth-heavy music around it rarely is particularly invasive. There's some of the guitar noise and dark electronica there, but the most important thing for music here is to make the lyrics even more eery and ominous. And it works like a charm. Perhaps only the last track here, Błąd maszyny ("Machine's error"), is more into the instrumental part, sounding like a dark (and eery and ominous) post-rock gem with vocals in ornamental role.

The Californian artist Daniel Romero has already a pretty impressive discography. The musician with a thing for Stranger Things the TV-series, released a new single filled with airy but also very melodic indie rock. Two songs cost 1 USD.

Inner Mirror - Azaran 

Arturo Flores, a former member of the dream pop band Kordan, released a handful of EPs in the last months but my attention was drawn to the new single with its extremely warm and moody dream pop. It is partly so good due to the guest vocals by an artist called Coco, but also thanks to the airy and subtle music in the backgrounds from the New York artist. Two versions of the single cost 2 USD.

Zaid Khan and his band are from Canada create some particularly noisy rock with post-punk influences and minimal, guitar-oriented vibes. There's something from shoegaze here, there's something from darkwave, definitely an interesting mix. Two tracks cost 4 EUR (5 CAD).

Shuteye Unison - Pale Blue Dot | Severe Clear

Another Californians here; the band from Fairfax released an album over a decade ago and decided to "settle into fatherhood" only to come back with a new single now. They present a soft and subtle take on indie pop with heavy oneiric vibes all over. The two songs cost 2 USD.

Local Blood - Dystopian Disco (2022)

The Lithuanian Local Blood debuted (also on this blog) with their EP called A Lure of Sights with the brilliant Total Guidance as the final track. But it was already over 5 (!) years ago. Finally this year, the post-punk scholars showed their proper debut album and Dystopian Disco is everything you may have wanted it to be.

I can sense so much influences here: there's something from Modest Mouse and IDLES in the vocals, tons of post-punk references from across the genre's scene and also something from the electronic compatriots from Solo Ansamblis in the way the compositions flow. As the post-punk canons state, the lyrics touch all the important stuff from the social point of view from the religious deceitfulness in My Blood to the state of being controlled (in, well, Control) and modern politics (Crawling Borders 2). But all this is made very approachable (which is important in those dark times now) with the melodic and catchy tunes and the way the band emits pure energy towards the audience. Especially when it's strengthen by the synthesizer madness like it is the case in Pressure. This modern and attractive approach to post-punk that hides the gloomy messages in the energetic blast makes the Lithuanians an important debut and a must-see for concert goers.
