Good Weather for an Airstrike - Kenopsia (2021)

Tom Honey or Good Weather for an Airstrike is a respected name on the ambient electronica scene, there's no doubts about it. I posted about his album Little Steps back in 2017 and it's been way too long for that good of an artist really. This year's Kenposia is a brilliant opportunity to come back to the British musician.

The album consists of mild electronica music with neoclassical elements all over it. In his music I find some of Sigur Rós' carefree mood of Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust - a similar nostalgic but happy memories expressed with music that is not too dark yet still slow and moody. There's tons of acoustic, not too imposing sounds that together create a perfect amalgamat of beauty and sadness. But the farther the album goes, the gloomier it gets, the less of sunny autumn and more of the rainy fall it becomes. This kind of dying out is incredibly sad, but also, not very surprising, isn't it?

Good Weather For An Airstrike - Little Steps (2017) EN

Tom Honey started his project because he suffered from tinnitus that made it difficult for him to sleep. He decided to create music that could lull him to sleep. And although the present sound of  Good Weather For An Airstrike isn't a lullaby anymore, there is a lot of dreamy feeling in it.

In Honey's music the ambient atmosphere is combined with beats that gently measure the time and with living instruments with the piano keys in the foreground (for example going together with the most delicate sound of xylophone in "Blossom"). When needed, it is strengthen with guitars and samples found somewhere in the ether and those drag the music towards post-rock.

"Little Steps" is a slow walk through a garden of dreams where the Sun generates the most fantastic colours and where you can meet what you dream of. Because what a good weather for an airstrike actually is? Good weather.

Tom Honey założył swój muzyczny projekt ponieważ borykał się z szumami usznymi, które nie pozwalały mu zasnąć. Zaczął więc tworzyć muzykę ułatwiającą zasypianie. I o ile obecne brzmienie Good Weather For An Airstrike nie jest już do końca kołysanką, z pewnością słychać w nim senne nawiązania.

W muzyce Honeya ambientowa atmosfera łączy się z łagodnie odmierzającymi czas basami i żywymi instrumentami z pianinem na czele (przeplatające się np z najdelikatniejszymi w muzycznym świecie dźwiękami w "Blossom"). Gdy trzeba zasilają ją gitary i znalezione gdzieś w eterze sample ciągnące muzykę leciutko w stronę post-rocka. 

"Little Steps" to niespieszny spacer przez ogród sennych marzeń, gdzie słońce generuje najbardziej fantastyczne kolory i gdzie spotyka się swoje sny. Bo w końcu jaka jest najlepsza pogoda na nalot? Pogodna.
