Enrico Coniglio & Giulio Aldinucci - Stalking the Elusive (2020) EN

Two Italians, Enrico Coniglio and Giulio Aldinucci, are experienced artists really keen on ambient and slow, dark electronics. So there was no way their duo wouldn't be at least good. With the DRONARIVM label, in June they released one and called it Stalking the Elusive.

The album from the two artists is a result of a live gig organized two years ago in Moscow and the many musician's mingling and experience sharing supported by one of my favourite labels. It includes both field recordings (as Coniglio seems to be known for loving them) and sounds that are extremely ethereal (in my favourite track With an Encrypted Travel Guide). In Until the End of Remembrances, the sacral nature of the duo's music is only strengthen by almost church-like organs and the diversity of their music is emphasized with the next song, It Will Not Snow Again presenting utterly apocalyptic mood while the whole thing is finished with the most droning piece At the Airport Cathedral. A beautiful album.

Dwaj Włosi, Enrico Coniglio i Giulio Aldinucci to doświadczeni artyści lubujący się w ambiencie i mrocznej, powolnej elektronice. Siłą rzeczy więc album tego duetu musi być co najmniej udany. W czerwcu wydali taki nakładem DRONARIVM i zatytułowali go Stalking the Elusive.

Płyta dwóch artystów to pokłosie koncertu zorganizowanego w Moskwie przed dwoma laty i wymiany doświadczeń między wieloma muzykami w ramach imprezy wspieranej przez przez jeden z moich lubionych labeli. Słychać na niej zarówno nastrojowe field recordings (bo Coniglio jest z nich znany) jak i dźwięki niezwykle eteryczne (w moim ulubionym kawałku With an Encrypted Travel Guide). W Until the End of Remembrances, sakralności muzyce duetu dodają niemal kościelne organy natomiast o zróżnicowaniu muzyki Włochów niech świadczy fakt, ze zaraz po nim nadchodzi istnie apokaliptyczny It Will Not Snow Again, a całość kończy najbardziej dronujące At the Airport Cathedral. Piękny krążek.

Jardín de la Croix - Letargo (2020) EN

Jardín de la Croix is a band from Madrid, that I was lucky to see live during Dunk!Festival last year. So the memories are great and now I can revisit them with some new material from the band on the EP released four years after Circadia, called Letargo.

The Spanish like playing fast, complex and seemingly chaotic guitar post-rock. It's even difficult to follow particular sequences as they are like crazy squirming snakes while the tracks jump around from fast-paced fragments meant to dance to nice, little, piano-based parts like those in Brechas. It seems then that the band make a exemplary, model math rock, in every detail sounding as it should (which is weird for such a chaotic genre). Even the finish of the first track makes a real ecstasy for the math rock fans. It's a shame it's so short as the two tracks don't fulfill anything and only tease the listener who wants to dance and jump around more.

Jardín de la Croix - Letargo (2020) PL

Jardín de la Croix to zespół z Madrytu, który udało mi się zobaczyć na żywo ba Dunk! Festivalu w zeszłym roku. A więc wspomnienia mam dobre, teraz natomiast mogę posłuchać nowego materiału na wydanej cztery lata po Circadii, EP-ce Letargo.

Hiszpanie lubują się w graniu szybkiego, skomplikowanego i pozornie chaotycznego gitarowego post-rocka. Ciężko jest śledzić poszczególne sekwencje bo wiją się one jak w szalonym tańcu, a utwory skaczą pomiędzy szybkimi kawałkami do tańca a ładnymi, budowanymi na dźwiękach pianina fragmentami, takimi jak w Brechas. Wydaje się więc, że zespół gra wzorowy math rock, niemal od linijki taki, jakim być powinien (co jest ciekawym stwierdzeniem dla tak chaotycznego gatunku). Nawet zakończenie pierwszego kawałka to istna ekstaza dla fanów tej muzyki. Szkoda, że tak krótka jest to płytka bo dwa kawałki nie zaspokajają apetytu i tylko droczą się z chęcią do tańca i skakania.

Grazer - Grazer (2020) EN

Australian band Grazer is a result of collaboration between four artists from different art backgrounds, who, together, created one of the most interesting dream pop debuts of the summer. Their first EP, naturally called Grazer, is now available for listening.

The band want to make "dreamy coalescence of 80s indie pop and the catharsis of 90s grunge and shoegaze". It's audible in the airy vocals functioning within the frame of quite lively, delicate and very acoustic dream pop music. The whole thing, on one hand, makes an impression of an intimate DYI project on the other, strikes with professional approach that results in mature and engaging compositions. The Australians sound like 12 Decembers or the more peaceful The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, especially in the great Is It So Sad?. Sometimes they go for ore mesmerizing sequences like the instrumental part of Intermission I and the beautiful finish in Takes So Long. And the thing that has to be mentioned is the fantastic cover art which has to be thanks to those various artistic origins mentioned above. A promising debut.

Grazer - Grazer (2020) PL

Australijski Grazer to wynik współpracy czworga artystów o różnych specjalizacjach, którzy razem stworzyli jeden z najciekawszych dreampopowych debiutów lata. Swoją debiutancką EP-kę nazwali oczywiście Grazer, a my możemy jej już słuchać.

Zespół ma na celu tworzyć "kombinację indie popu z lat 80-tych i catharsis grunge'u i shoegaze'u lat 90-tych, wszystko w atmosferze marzeń sennych". Słychać to w nadzwyczaj eterycznych wokalach, które funkcjonują wśród dość żwawego, delikatnego i mocno akustycznego dream popu. Całość z jednej strony robi intymne wrażenie projektu DYI, z drugiej, pełnego profesjonalizmu skutkującego dojrzałymi i wciągającymi kompozycjami. Australijczycy brzmią zarówno jak 12 Decembers jak i dużo spokojniejsi The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, zwłaszcza w świetnym Is It So Sad?. Czasem zdarzają im się też wyjątkowo hipnotyzujące sekwencję, jak instrumentalna część Intermission I no i piękny finisz w Takes So Long. No i nie można zapominać o znakomitym cover arcie, ale to już pewnie zasługa wspomnianych różnych artystycznych specjalizacji muzyków. Obiecujący debiut.

Antipoesis - AYRE (2020) EN

I imagine Chile as a country of metal and darkwave music. I probably am influenced by those few labels I follow but still, from time to time, there's a project that proves this to me again. One of those is Antipoesis.

The artist (or artists, I couldn't find it out) from South America recently released a, probably, debut alvum called AYRE and it's something to listen to. The music here consists of minimalist, dark instruments and electroics with subtle vocals. There's also a lot of darkwave here when it comes to the lo-fi quality and flatnes of the sound. So there's a lot of grinds and whizes and not too much basses but if anything, it only adds up to the atmosphere generated. Especially when in Hospedaje we also meet uncomfortable, noise add-ons making the whole thing more multi-dimensional. 

Antipoesis skillfully changes the pace, like in Roma (Acto I & II) in which delicate ambient pop neighbours with guitar, somewhat grunge, noise pop. Intelligent and interesting.
