Those Who Dream By Day - Glad to be... (2018) PL

Warszawskie Those Who Dream By Day wydali w końcu jeden z najbardziej oczekiwanych debiutów tego roku w Polsce. Mogę powiedzieć, że jestem szczęśliwy słuchając "Glad to be...".

Bo mimo że Polacy potrafią się zapomnieć i nieźle przyfanzolić hałasem ("...back on the PLAYGROUND" chociażby) to tempo, zróżnicowane kompozycje i wolność, którą obdarzają gitary brzmi wręcz wesoło, żeby nie powiedzieć ekscytująco.

"Glad to be..." kosztuje tyle, ile zadecydujesz się zapłacić.

Those Who Dream By Day - Glad to be... (2018) EN

The Warsaw based Those Who Dream By Day have finally released one of the most anticipated debut albums of the year in Poland. After a well-received EP last year, my expectations were high and I have to say that I'm gad to be listening to "Glad to be...".

The album is meant to be a concept album about the bond between the musicians and depict the feelings that accompanied them during last years. It seems that they were absolutely positive, so the track titles say but also the music itself. Because although the Poles are able to forget themselves in their music and hit the audience with noise ("...back on the PLAYGROUND" for example), pace, diverse compositions and freedom given to the guitars sound almost happy or even exciting.

However, probably the best characterizations of the musicians is the movie sample in "...on the LAST SUMMER DAY" as the boys and girls whose curiosity leads them to strange, strange places can't refer to anyone else but the band. And talking about places, I naturally went straight to the maps and found out that the place the artists are glad to be in is located somewhere next to Szczytno in the Mazury lake district in Poland. And musically speaking the track is also somewhere else, as it is the only one with airy vocals.

"Glad to be..." costs whatever you want to pay.

Mint Field - Pasar de las Luces (2018) EN

Absolutely engaging and abspolutely mesmerizing, this is the debut album byt Mint Field, two very young girls from Mexican city of Tijuana. Although there's only two of them, they are able to create unique and mint guitar vapour dense atmosphere shoegaze. "Pasar de las Luces" takes us with them for a long journey where you may forget your own self.

Slow drums by Amor Amezcua and a guitar and this otherworldly like angels' steps vocal by Estrella Sanchez are enough to lift a person off of the ground. They begin it with the single entitled "Ojos en el Carro" in which the airy vocal and psychedelic guitar catch attention and begin the process of hypnosis. The minimalist usage of instruments doesn't bother at all. Two-people White Stripes could make us dance and so Mint Fields can make us get lost in their misty climate.

Their songs are rarely traditionally written. It's enough to have a bite of "Temporada De Jacarandas" to see how to write a catchy song using only two words. Or not much than a title, as in "Quiero Otoño De Nuevo" ("I want Autumn Anew") in which the psychedelic guitar is ut in the foreground and leads inevitably towards fantastic finish. Beautiful vocal as "just" an addition to ambitious and well-written music on this album is both frequent and well done.

Powolna perkusja Amor Amezcuy i jedna gitara, a do tego przejmujący i nieziemski jak stąpanie aniołów głos Estrelli Sanchez wystarczą by oderwać człowieka od ziemi. Zaczynają już w singlowym "Ojos en el Carro", gdzie eteryczny wokal i psychodeliczne dźwięki gitary w oczywisty sposób przykuwają uwagę i zaczynają hipnozę.

Tim Sorbs - Sounds Happen (2018) EN

Tim Sorbs is a Las Vegas-based musicians for whom there's no favourite genre. His newest album (newer even than the January's "Necessities And Vices") is, judging from the emotional caption on Bandcamp, his goodbye with the audience. At least for some time.

It is also a few tracks filled with absolute neoclassical beauty. Sorbs' compositions kill it with piano keys stroking that is delicate like touch of a sun ray (it is phenomenal in "Anir-Tank where those minimalist compositions make unbelievable job).

If such a good album is for the American only "sounds that happen", I can only admire his talents. But more likely, the phrase means that sounds are something that happens naturally. That's why there's so much on this album sounding like taken from nature, music that fluctuates like ocean or cries like rain.

"Sounds Happen" costs whatever you are willing to pay.

Tim Sorbs - Sounds Happen (2018) PL

Aurora Borealis - Goodbye (2018) EN

Quite well known Belgian project Aurora Borealis on its first album, the eleven year-old "Aurora Borealis", presented this song about saying goodbyes. Now its creator, known as Déhà, comes back to this track with the remastered version and new songs inspired by the sound of the original track.

"Goodbye" is atmospheric post-rock driving much from ambient and neoclassical music, full of deep emotions with the dramatic moment of parting ways as the most important one. Sad like raindrops keys are juxtaposed with very loud guitars sounding as if they were usually accompany metal growling, not those soul-touching sounds. The almost 15-minutes-long part one and two is, simply speaking, beauty and drama together.

Next three parts are really kept in similar mood although are much calmer, at least before the finish in the fifth part. The level of sadness, melancholia and hopelessness is the same. I don't like that much the last two tracks that are, as the artist states, more progressive. But it's a matter of taste I presume.

"Goodbye" costs whatever you want to pay.
