The Warsaw based Those Who Dream By Day have finally released one of the most anticipated debut albums of the year in Poland. After a well-received EP last year, my expectations were high and I have to say that I'm gad to be listening to "Glad to be...".
The album is meant to be a concept album about the bond between the musicians and depict the feelings that accompanied them during last years. It seems that they were absolutely positive, so the track titles say but also the music itself. Because although the Poles are able to forget themselves in their music and hit the audience with noise ("...back on the PLAYGROUND" for example), pace, diverse compositions and freedom given to the guitars sound almost happy or even exciting.
However, probably the best characterizations of the musicians is the movie sample in "...on the LAST SUMMER DAY" as the boys and girls whose curiosity leads them to strange, strange places can't refer to anyone else but the band. And talking about places, I naturally went straight to the maps and found out that the place the artists are glad to be in is located somewhere next to Szczytno in the Mazury lake district in Poland. And musically speaking the track is also somewhere else, as it is the only one with airy vocals.
"Glad to be..." costs whatever you want to pay.
