Stockhaussen - Cold Lines (2016) EN

Cold wave from a city where the average temperature is 17 Celsius deegrees (it’s 8 in Warsaw), from a country that is rather associated with sombreros, cacti and holidays of your dreams? Impossible? Not if your name is Angel Kauff and you can mesmerize audience with Siberia-like cold wave as Stockhaussen.

Lauff comes from the giant moloch known as Mexico DC. And perhaps this place makes more sense for the music he plays (Berlin, anyone?). The name of the project may be a tribute to Karlheinz Stockhausen, German avantgarde electronic music artist known for his habit of not looking on others and following his own musical paths. There could hardly be a better art patron. The music, the name and even Kauff’s surname sounds German and that’s the place that seems to be much closer to cold wave than Mexico. Rhythmical and crude drums, keys that feel like icicles touching bare skin and those vocals - both passionate and distant - like memories of love from long ago as replayed from an audio tape. And they come from three vocalists: Greek Kriistal Ann, Georgain Karen Batok and Ditta Perditta of Argentina. And, of course, from Kauff himself and he has dark and deep voice so when he sings “Esta noche puedo sentir olas frías dentro de mi Sin intentos, sin inventar cosas nuevas dentro de ti” (Tonight I can feel cold waves inside me / Without attempts, without inventing new things within you) you can tell he feels as he sings. And the atmosphere of “Perpetuum” is one of the kind.

The artist’s website shows also another of Kauff’s passions - photography in  which, just like in his music, the erotic meets the cold minimalism. Both hot and freezing. Perhaps that’s the way the city that is named after the country really is?

“Cold Lines” are available for 9$ from Stockhaussen’s Bandcamp.
