If anybody thinks that Australia means only laid back and tanned surfers should admit to be wrong. Bleach Dream of Melbourne is a perfect example for a sad popgaze from down below. They want to use their sounds to evoke thoughtfulness and melancholy (so the title's saudade) and also, or maybe first of all, make people realise the beauty in the feelings. This really is something I can relate to.
The album sounds like a compilation of sunny hits from California that was found during an apocalyptic winter. Lackluster, covered with dust, with music whose pace has lowered and sun hid behind clouds. It's melancholic with the melancholy that suggests wonderful times lost somewhere behind. It's sad with the longing sadness.
Sounds good both with the music brought to foreground (in "Colour of Georgia") and when there are vocals, although usually muffled. Clearly though, the music layer is not only a decoration here.
"Saudade" costs 9 AUD.
