There are some established truths in the world of music and one of them says that there are always brilliant shoegazish projects being born in California. ANother one but also so very different from others was the queergazing Them Are Us Too created by duet Kennedy Ashlyn and Cash Askew. Those artists made their version of airy shoegaze with great dose of queer message inside. Made because Askew passed away tragically and "Amends" makes a tribute to her artistic life.
The band in their work show a great deal of love for the synth works from the 80s, it is tangible not only in their music but also in Ashlyn's voice often compared to Kate Bush herself. So very young musicians not only didn't feel ashamed of their oldschool fascination but even fueled it with their image so it was only a matter of time that the synth nostalgia's fans gave them their hearts. But also the fans of the dream pop airiness that can be very well felt in my favourite "Grey Water".
The interesting fact is that in the ore energetic fragments of the album, as in "Floor", Ashlyn's vocals are coming closer to Kate Jackson of The Long Blondes and them combined with the synth music sounds like the English band's "Couples". Bush or Jackson, Ashlyn sounds phenomenal and this tribute to the cooperation with Askew is surely the best way to reply to the fate's unfairness.
"Amends" costs 7 USD.
