Conversations With Bears - // d v s te d \\ (2017) EN

Intimacy is the key word for the album by a Canadian artist Lucien Lahey. His project with the most Canadian name imaginable, Conversations With Bears, is a lo-fi with such a huge potential to buy fans with its atmosphere that I couldn't not post about it here. At the end of November, Lahey released his new album, "// d v s te d \\".

The Canadian is undoubtedly really sensible person that is "still wondering if he's really alive. growing up feels a lot like getting old". As he adds, "beautiful ghosts tell me what's meaningful and I listen. Sometimes I talk back" as he did with the album. Maybe just everyone should answer on their own what may be behind lyrics such as "i can't deny, i've seen the visions / nowhere to hide, as the clouds start to blacken" ("Visions") or "don't expect you to understand / that i don't belong" ("Belong"). He is also surprisingly good at story-telling as some of the songs can be listened to as unsettling stories, like in "Dusted" or "To Arrive".

All of this is recorded in such a way that the vocal and instruments are not super easy to grasp, they have to fight through the lo-fi nature of the recordings creating a moody haze of sound. And they are sung with emotional, neurotic voice that gets straight to the audience's minds. Also, I'd never heard a recording made in a train that makes such a good job as drums, as it is in "Visions".

"// d v s te d \\" costs 8 CAD.
