NONE, or actually Anna Nin, is one of the artists represented by Berlin-based Squall Recordings. Just like the recording house's most musicians, she presents music that is so experimentally dark that one has to reach the underground to reach it. She shows it on her new album "Ease".
Music there is something like post-punk that went towards blackgaze instead of punk aggression or coldwave atmosphere. It means it's super dark, not only thanks to Nin's whispering vocals. They are mixed with lo-fi backgrounds that are so dense you can't really distinguish much inside, they are like evening fog. The most important thing though is how dark the atmosphere they can create.
The coldwave side of the project is mostly represented by clear and dry-sounded drums that sets the pace, very often against the poured-all-over-the-place synths and dispersed vocals (as in "All For Nothing"). Although the whole album is more about the mood than about the form, there are also moments like brutal reality check in "Reality" where the sounds can be actually called brutal. Or when the album ends in the least expected moment in "The Pond".
"Ease" costs 4 EUR.
