Last year, the Texas-based duo have released an album that showed us how to make good, electronic shoegaze with gloomy mood and at the same time with the sound that wants to fill the whole space around you. Karen and Steven makes so much noise for two people that they sound as if it was a whole bunch of people.
The first track doesn't seem like it yet. "She Knows" is a delicately electronic ballad. But already "Diviner" introduces heavy sounds powered by the drums sounding like an automatic rifle adding brutality to the project. It is smoothed by Karen's vocal that is delicate and stands in opposition to the rest of the music.
The second part of the album is actually one song made of four parts entitled "We Are The People" that gradually builds up the tension up to the climax in the third part sounding like an anthem for humanism or maybe for democracy? What's given is that the finish is loud and full of aggression. And if anyone's still not satisfied, there's also the fourth part - and it's a real symphony of noise.
"Vessels Of Sound (I)" costs 5 USD.
