NurseOnDuty - EP:3 (2017) EN

NurseOnDuty is a unique project that answers the question "what if punks gave up electronic guitars and startes to play electronic music and actually compose melodies instead". Because the English girls make anarcho noise pop at its best. And it is asskicking.

NurseOnDuty start their insane dance from the very first notes. Catchy music won't let you relax even for a second, which is true thanks to great melodies - the best one is probably "!NoPasaran!". The project has both a punk raging spirit and pop-like ability to stick to your brain. And to make your heart beat faster and your legs dance.

The name of the project couldn't be better. Girls who treat, in this case they treat the whole society, are automatically connected with being nurses. Apart from the overall message, the punk origins can be heard also in the sound quality that could be described as lo-fi if you want to be nice. But it shouldn't be too discouraging.

The EPka, as anarchism suggests, is for pay-what-you-want.

NurseOnDuty to wyjątkowy projekt, który odpowiada na pytanie, co by się stało, gdyby szarpiący gitarowe struny punkowi anarchiści odłożyli elektryki i zabrali się za elektronikę i tworzenie melodii. Bo te angielskie dziewczyny to anarchistyczny noise pop w najczystszej postaci. I jak nic innego kopie tyłki.

Swój szalony taniec NurseOnDuty rozpoczynają od pierwszych nut. Wkręcająca muzyka nie pozwala oderwać się nawet na chwilę, a pomagają jej w tym znakomite melodie, jak ta z najlepszego chyba na płycie "!NoPasaran!". Projekt ma więc w sobie zarówno punkowy pazur jak i popową umiejętność wpadania w ucho. Oraz przyspieszania tętna i porywanie do tańca.

Nazwa projektu nie mogła być trafniejsza. Wszak dziewczyny dbające o zdrowie, w tym wypadku społeczeństwa z anarchistycznego punktu widzenia, to automatyczne skojarzenie z pielęgniarkami. Poza przesłaniem z punkowego rodowodu został im także lekki stosunek do jakości dźwięku, który w najlepszym wypadku określić można jako lo-fi. Nie powinno to jednak nikogo zrażać.

Da Voile - Memoria (2017) EN

One-man project from Minsk seems to be a very productive one. For two last years they managed to create eight albums, EPs and singles. The ninth is here, the fresh "Memoria". And without any doubts, deserves to be put inside the "promising and good oneiric post-rock" box.

They have everything. Beautiful airy cover. Latin track titles. And, what's the most important, great music. It combines, as the best music does, oneiric atmosphere of a freshly squeezed lemon dream and loud, sometimes really loud, guitars forcing your eyes to get overly wet. So it is loud ("Finis") and epic (a monumental "Vitae") and both, loud and epic ("Sed"). It's worth getting into the compositions from Belarus, although they could be better quality-wise. And now you have to set the volume up a bit. But is is a big price for some moments of agitation?

Da Voile - Memoria (2017) PL

Jednoosobowy projekt z Mińska, Da Voile, okazuje się być bardzo płodnym. Przez ostatnie dwa lata wydał osiem płyt, epek i singli. Dziewiątą jest świeżutka "Memoria". I bez dwóch zdań zasługuje na umieszczenie w gablotce "zdolny, dobry oniryczny post-rock".

Ma wszystko. Eteryczną i piękną grafikę. Łacińskie tytuły tracków. I, co najważniejsze, doskonałą muzykę. Łączy ona, niczym u najlepszych, oniryczny klimat świeżo wysnutego snu oraz głośne, miejscami bardzo głośne, gitary zmuszające oczy do nadmiernej wilgoci. Jest więc głośno ("Finis") i epicko (monumentalny "Vitae") a także i głośno i epicko ("Sed"). Warto się zasłuchać w kompozycjach Białorusina, choć trzeba przyznać, że mogłyby być lepsze jakościowo. A tak trzeba przekręcić gałkę głośności ciut bardziej w górę. Ale czy to taka cena za kilka chwil wzruszeń?

Wending Tide - The Painter (2017) EN

What's better than aggressive metal with the vocalist screaming as if he wanted to spit out the whole hell when you can hardly find in yourself any motivation to treat the reality politely? Not much. The album by Wending Tide from New Zealand is just perfect for those situations. It's not and doesn't want to be anything more than emotions translated into music.

But it's not entirely without surprises. As for example after full of intensive emotions track number one comes a break filled with beautiful piano keys. And the real masterpiece is the very beginning of the following track, "Cascading Auburn I", that starts with... the vocalist breathing in, getting ready for the mayhem continuation. And then it is guitars and noise until the end with such an aggression that can almost be cut with a knife.

the only problem here is that this music has to be very loud. Really, really loud. But since when is it a problem anyway?

Wending Tide - The Painter (2017) PL

Co jest lepszego niż agresywny metal z wokalistą wrzeszczącym jakby chciał wypluć piekło, gdy ciężko wydobyć z siebie motywację do darzenia rzeczywistości sympatią? Chyba niewiele. Płyta nowozelandzkiego projektu Wending Tide jest niczym skrojona na takie właśnie okazje. Nie jest i nie chce być niczym więcej niż emocjami przetłumaczonymi na muzykę.

Nie jest ona jednak pozbawiona niespodzianek. Jak na przykład, gdy po pełnym intensywnych odczuć głośnym utworze tytułowym następuje kilkusekundowa, jakże piękna, przerwa na nastrojowe klawisze pianina. A prawdziwym majstersztykiem jest początek następnego utworu, "Cascading Auburn I" z charakterystycznym nabieraniem powietrza przez wokalistę. A potem już do samego końca jest gitarowo i głośno i z taką agresją, że można ją niemal nożem kroić.

Jedyny problem jest taki, że tej muzyki trzeba słuchać głośno. Naprawdę głośno. Ale od kiedy jest to problemem?

In Loving Kindness - It's Going To Be Allright (2017) EN

A mysterious band from Flensburg, Germany, surprised me with a really good (probably) debut album. Full of dark dreampop and dull shoegaze. It doesn't feel like a lo-fi amateur music but it can't be said a lot more about the band except that they borrowed their name from a hymn praising Jesus Christ.

The track entitled like the album is slow and melancholic and the attention is drawn to the deep and even gloomy vocal hidden somewhere behind the line of bass. "Line of Thought" is a bit faster, especially with the rhythmical drums but it's only in "Last Words"that we get a really sullen and dark music. For late night listening sessions.

The album is supposed to be a hot soup on a cold night poured directly to our ears and I'll be damned if it is not the warmest soup I had there.
