Goodbye Laura Palmer - III (2019) EN

Goodbye Laura Palmer is a really underhyped project. He appeared on my blog two years ago with the second album, now I'm writing about his third one and not much has changed, the artist doesn't even have a Facebook fanpage. But he still makes some great music that can be listened to on III.

Just like on the previous albums, the attention is grabbed by the deep, fascinating vocal. A bit like Leonard Cohen, a bit like Rob Goodwin of The Slow Show. Plus moody, slowcore compositions fitting the heavy autumn weather perfectly. In some moments, as in You Know That I... the atmosphere is turned up and some tangible danger is felt in the air, in other ones, the peaceful melancholy takes over and doesn't want to stop. One of those albums that have to be admired in autumns.

Goodbye Laura Palmer to bardzo niedoceniany projekt. Na moim blogu pojawił się już dwa lata temu ze swoim drugim albumem, dziś piszę o trzecim a niewiele się zmieniło: artysta nie ma nawet strony na Facebooku. Za to robi wciąż znakomitą muzykę, co usłyszeć można na III.

Tak jak na poprzednich albumach, uwagę zwraca przede wszystkim głęboki, pasjonujacy wokal. Trochę jak Leonard Cohen, trochę jak Rob Goodwin z The Slow Show. Do tego dochodzą nastrojowe, slowcore'owe kompozycje pasujące jak ulał do ciężkiej, jesiennej aury. W niektórych momentach, tak jak w You Know That I... atmosfera jest podkręcona i czuć namacalne wręcz zagrożenie, w innych błoga melancholia ogarnia i nie pozwala o sobie zapomnieć. Jedna z tych płyt, których słuchać należy jesienią.

Perfect timing. The legendary TV-series by David Lynch has just come back after 27 years with the long dead but still very much attention drawing character of Laura Palmer. After four years came back also a German (or French, it's hard to find out for sure) project called Goodbye Laura Palmer. While the TV-series is still difficult to judge what it is like (the first episodes still feel like an introduction to the magical world of Twin Peaks), GLP is way simpler. We know that we can expect a deep, velvet vocal and peaceful yet moody dreampop.

GLP has some of the slow atmosphere of Cigarettes After Sex but it's less oneiric and more minimalistic. There's not much more than the warm voice of the vocalist and a guitar with drums in the background. But still each track is unique. Be it the catchy "Do It Like You Feel" or full of an unsettling mood "Silence & Dementia" or dark (and so much fitting the personal view of the world of the Laura Palmer from television) "When The City Becomes My Bed". It'd be so good to hear them live at the Roadhouse.

Timing idealny. Właśnie po 27 latach wraca kultowy serial Davida Lyncha z Laurą Palmer jako od pierwszego odcinka martwą, acz ciągle wzbudzającą emocje nastolatką, Po czterech latach wraca też niemiecki (tudzież francuski, ciężko się połapać) projekt Goodbye Laura Palmer. O ile po serialu wciąż nie wiemy czego do końca się spodziewać (pierwsze odcinki ciągle są trochę jak wprowadzenie na nowo do magicznego świata Twin Peaks) to po powrocie GLP wiadomo wszystko, co trzeba od początku: głęboki, welwetowy głos i spokojny, choć klimatyczny dreampop.

GLP ma w sobie coś z niespiesznego klimatu Cigarettes After Sex ale jest mniej oniryczny i bardziej minimalistyczny. Oprócz ciepłego wokalu oraz gitary z perkusją gdzieś w tle nie ma wiele. A mimo to każdy kawałek jest niepowtarzalny. Czy to hitowy "Do It Like You Feel" czy obdarzony niepokojącą atmosferą "Silence & Dementia" czy mroczne (i tak dobrze pasujące do życiowej filozofii serialowej Laury) "When The City Becomes My Bed". Dobrze byłoby usłyszeć projekt na żywo w Barze Bang Bang na rozstajach.
