Fragile Animals to shoegaze'owe trio z australijskiego Sunshine Coast (co za wspaniała nazwa!), które powoli wyrabia swoją markę na eterycznej scenie antypodów, a także całego świata. Po tym jak dwa lata temu wydali swoją debiutancką EP-kę Light That Fades, poszli za ciosem i nagrali kolejną, zatytułowaną Only Shallow​/​/​Only More.

Skojarzenia z tytułem są oczywiste, jednak jeśli My Bloody Valentine rzeczywiście inspirowało muzyków to nie jest to dosłowne w ich muzyce. Wygląda raczej na to, że trio wzięło z twórczości europejczyków gównie zamiłowanie do eterycznego hałasu. Bo wokal Victorii Jenkins o ile z pewnością szepczący i nastrojowy, jest wyraźny i raczej kojarzy się z dream popem spod znaku Beach House niż z "twardym" shoegaze'em. Także melodyjność i przebojowość kawałków na płycie ciągnie album w kierunku szeroko pojętego popu.

Podobnie jest z warstwą muzyczną, jest głównie nośnikiem melodii i podkładem pod wokal. Wydaje mi się, że Fragile Animals najlepiej brzmią w bardziej nastrojowych fragmentach (świetne Melbourne), mam nadzieję, że pójdą w tę stronę w przyszłości.

Fragile Animals - Only Shallow​/​/​Only More (2019) EN

Fragile Animals is a shoegaze trio from the Australian Sunshine Coast (this wonderful name actually influences their music), that is slowly establishing their brand on the airy scene of the Oz and the world as well. After they released their debut EP Light That Fades two years ago, they are following with the new one, entitled Only Shallow​/​/​Only More.

The title makes an obvious association, but if My Bloody Valentine was really among the bands influencing the musicians, it's not literary visible in their works. It rather seems as if the trio took from the Europeans mostly the love for airy noise. Because Victoria Jenkins' vocal of course is whispering and atmospheric, but it's also clear and more likely to relate to Beach House-esque dream pop than "hardcore" shoegaze. Also the melodic and catchy nature of the album's tracks pull it towards the widely defined pop.

The music layer is similar, it's mostly the means to express melodies and background for the vocal. For me, Fragile Animals sound best in more climatic fragments (as in the brilliant Melbourne), I hope they'll go in this direction in the future.
