Two bands known from this blog combining their forces. Couldn't ignore this fact. A split by WARM and Blush Response brings a solid dose of American/Australian shoegaze and on top of that, it is available for anything you want to pay,

The EP is opened with songs created by the Adelaide-based band. Their music is slower, more ballad-like and very emotional. Doesn't matter what emotions the artists derive from, Weightless is depressingly sad while Sweet Respite full of hope, they always sound authentic. Especially that the guitar backgrounds are filled with the obscure nostalgia. 

The second part is ruled by the New Yorkers from WARM. Their music is louder and monumental but still very airy. Unlike the dark dream pop Blush Response, it is a truly juicy shoegaze and the factor is help is what they can be well-known for: fantastically complimenting each other female and male vocals.

Dwa znane z tego bloga zespoły łączące swoje siły Tego nie mogłem przegapić. Split WARM i Blush Response to kawał znakomitego amerykańskiego/australijskiego shoegaze'u, który w dodatku można mieć za ile chcesz zapłacić.

EP-kę otwierają dwa kawałki zespołu z Adelajdy. Ich muzyka jest wolniejsza, balladowa i bardzo emocjonalna.  Niezależnie za jakie emocje artyści się zabierają, Weightless jest depresyjnie smutna, a Sweet Respite pełna nadziei, zawsze wychodzi im to autentycznie, zwłaszcza, że gitarowe tła wypełniają nieprzeniknioną nostalgią.

Druga część należy do nowojorskiego WARM. Ich muzyka jest głośniejsza i bardziej monumentalna, a jednocześnie wciąż niezwykle eteryczna. W przeciwieństwie do dark dreampopowego Blush Response, to jest prawdziwie soczysty shoegaze, a to co się na to składa to również to, z czego zespół może słynąć: fantastycznie uzupełniające się wokale, damski i męski.

As the Adelaida based musicians describe themselves, the band is all about the internal conflict between their leader, Alister Douglas', liking to write dream pop melodies and his urge to tear them apart with reverbs and guitar noise. Blush Response benefits from this as on their new album, both of those things sound brilliant.

From the very first moments, you can notice both, the delicate or even drowsy vocal of Douglas and very determined, noisy guitars. "Blasphemy" misleads a bit with its slow pace and great usage of silence as just after this one, way faster music takes the stage with "Cruel" and other songs. The band in general balances the amount of music in both climates but I would say that I enjoyed the more ballad-like, filled with dreamy atmosphere instead of catchiness tracks more, as for example the already mentioned "Blasphemy" or "Horizon".

The track the album is named after, "Hearts Grow Dull", proves on the other hand, that the musicians can also build up a beautiful noise that fills up heart and overshadows minds. This is what you listen to such music for. Similarly with "Drive", the noise in this track makes a real ocean of overpowering sounds in the way My Bloody Valentine does. It makes also a great metaphor of life with the chorus going like "It’s a long drive home, and I don’t know where this road goes".

Jak muzycy z Adelajdy piszą o sobie, zespół bazuje na wewnętrznym konflikcie między skłonnością jego lidera, Alistera Douglasa, do pisania dreampopowych melodii i jego chęci do niszczenia ich reverbami i gitarowym noise'em.  Blush Response wychodzi to na dobre bo ich nowa płyta obie te rzeczy robi fenomenalnie.

Od pierwszych chwil w uszy rzuca się łagodny, usypiający wokal Douglasa i bardzo zdecydowane i hałaśliwe gitary. "Blasphemy" oszukuje nieco wolnym rytmem i genialnym graniem ciszą, bo zaraz po nim na scene wkraczają zdecydowanie szybsze utwory z "Cruel" na czele. Zespół zręcznie lawiruje między tymi klimatami, mi osobiście bardziej do gustu przypadają utwory bardziej balladowe, bogatsze w senną atmosferę kosztem chwytliwości, tak jak wspomniane "Blasphemy" czy "Horizon".

Tytułowy utwór, "Hearts Grow Dull" udowadnia z kolei, że muzycy potrafią skonstruować przepiękny hałas, który wypełnia serca i przyćmiewa rozum. Właśnie po to słucha się takiej muzyki. Podobnie jest w "Drive", hałas w tym utworze to prawdziwe morze obezwładniających dźwięków w stylu My Bloody Valentine. Doskonale pasuje do tej metafory życia z refrenem "to długa droga do domu, a nie mam pojęcia, dokąd ona wiedzie".
