Ryan E. Weber, known as REW<< , is a musician quite familiar to the blog's readers. Coming from the Great Lakes area, the artist appeared here with the album On the Horns of Our Spheres two year ago. This time he's back with a short but so moody EP called Clepsydrae.

Filled with piano magic like the title's hourglass is filled with sand, the album is a perfect choice for an audiophile's late evening. Neoclassical tracks with impossible delicate noise backgrounds (so well sounding together in Tower of the Winds) impresses the audience with the raw beauty. Some additions here include non-pushy drums and elements of somewhat sacral airiness in Clepsydra, but in general it's a minimalist neoclassical album and this is its strength.

Ryan E. Weber, znany jako REW<< to muzyk już nieźle znany bywalcom bloga. Pochodzący z Krainy Wielkich Jezior muzyk pojawił się tu ostatnio za sprawą albumu On the Horns of Our Spheres dwa lata temu. Teraz powraca z krótką, ale jakże nastrojową EP-ką Clepsydrae.

Wypełniona po brzegi, chciałoby się rzec jak klepsydra piaskiem, graną na pianinie magią znakomicie sprawdza się jako nocna sesja dla audiofilów. Klasyczne kawałki z delikatnymi do granic możliwości noise'wymi tłami (pięknie to gra w Tower of the Winds) zachwycają naturalnym pięknem. Dodatki na płycie obejmują też nienachalną perkusję czy elementy nieco podniosłej eteryczności w Clepsydra, jednak całościowo to raczej minimalistyczny album neoklasyczny i w tym leży jego siła.

REW<< or Ryan E. Weber is an Merican artist with a particularly interesting background, he performed among others as Eric & Magill, cooperated with musician of bands like Shearwater or Volcano Choir, lived in Kenya and Armenia. No wonder his hew album is full of surprises too.

"On the Horns of Our Spheres" baffles the audience from the very beginning of "Dominant Species" with the artist's vocal being accompanied by lavish orchestral sounds and marching drums. This theme - combination of really delicate singing with energetic orchestra is repeated in the next track ("Adrift on the Sea of the Blind"). But it is contrasted with absolutely atmospheric ballads such as the brilliant "Our Houses, Built on Sand" for starters. This is a song where Weber is assisted only by the piano keys and it is enough to amaze the audience (what happens once again in "On The River Suam").

There is more surprises, the oriental "The Seven Islands...", Far-East ballad "Kitum Cave" or a dream pop gem in "Stuck at the Gate". The whole thing makes the listeners discover Weber's album like a pretty, atmosphere-fueled adventure with each time they listen to it.

REW<< czyli Ryan E. Weber to amerykański artysta z bardzo ciekawą historią, grający jako między innymi Eric & Magill, współpracujący z muzykami takich zespołów jak Shearwater czy Volcano Choir, mieszkający w Kenii i Armenii. Nic dziwnego, że jego nowy album jest tak pełen niespodzianek.

"On the Horns of Our Spheres" zaskakuje od pierwszych chwil "Dominant Species", gdzie wokal artysty akompaniowany jest przez orkiestralne, rozbuchane dźwięki i marszową perkusję. Motyw ten - zestawienie naprawdę delikatnego wokalu i kipiącej energią orkiestry powtarza się w kolejnym utworze ("Adrift on the Sea of the Blind"). Kontrastuje też jednak z absolutnie klimatycznymi balladami z genialnym "Our Houses, Built on Sand" na czele. W tym utworze Weberowi towarzyszą tylko klawisze pianina i to wystarczy by zauroczyć publikę (podobnie zresztą jak w "On The River Suam").

Zaskoczeń jest więcej, orientalny "The Seven Islands...", dalekowschodnia ballada "Kitum Cave" czy dreampopowy diamencik "Stuck at the Gate". To wszystko sprawia, że płytę Webera odkrywa się jak urokliwą i pełną atmosfery przygodę z każdym kolejnym odsłuchem.
