The band that "exists to elevate the ordinary, animating one's imagination with broad strokes in vivid hues" have released an album about "embracing the risk of fates uncertain" instead of "retreating to familiar comforts"/ The American Daydream Arithmetic realize those ideas with the help of ambitious, very complex post-rock that influences the audience to the highest degree.
The album makes a long, really long symphony played with electric guitars but also piano, trumpet and a whole spectrum of string instruments. This variety is super reach but also, what's also important, everything is noticeable in the music. Even raw guitar sounds, as in "Rocketeering" are no obstacle to fully experiencing this variety. And if there's need for vocals, Katie Chastain (known from Faux Fix) and Aaron Tucker are employed and they deliver another layer of dream pop airiness.
The middle part of the album is ruled by the epically long (of course) "Odyssey" and extremely delicate, in comparison to other tracks, "A Brittle Form of Calm" with beautiful piano and sidelong backing vocals. This one transforms into the most beautiful ballad here, "I Don't Want to Fight" based on dialogical vocal between Chastain and Tucker and the fantastic instruments. After well over an hour, the last sounds of piano in "The Stillness of Twilight" end the album giving a feeling that it still could be longer. And it is, when you listen on Spotify.
