Sam Haven - Sanctuary (2019) EN

Sam Haven, Australian artist, on his album's cover art as well as on his own pictures shows how much darkness and shadows mean to him. And his music is also like that. You can try it on his new album called Sanctuary.

The musician creates utterly moody and very dark pop-rock that is able to "seamlessly blend ambient soundscapes with gently imposing classical elements". Based on the raw sounds of electric guitar and his poignant and deep voice gets straight to the listener's soul. To properly appreciate the album, it is recommended also to take a closer look at Haven's dark and pain-filled lyrics.

The artist sounds even better when in Heaven Sent replaces the guitar with piano and his clear vocal with whispers. And this sound makes it feel as if there was an discovery of a long-forgotten track by iLiKETRAiNS when their name was spelled like that. But the pinnacle of the emotional crispness is reached in All The Flowers Are On Fire, monumental ballad played on airy backing vocals and noise. Perfect finish of the good album.

Sam Haven, muzyk z Australii, zarówno na cover arcie jak i na zdjęciach samego siebie pokazuje jak bardzo ceni mrok i cień. Taką też muzykę tworzy, a spróbować jej można na nowej płycie pod tytułem Sanctuary.

Artysta tworzy nastrojowy i bardzo mroczny pop-rock, który "płynnie łączy ambientowe soundscape'y z delikatnie zarysowanymi elementami klasycznymi". Oparty na surowych dźwiękach gitary elektrycznej i przejmującym, głębokim wokalu dociera prosto do duszy odbiorcy. Warto zagłębić się również w mroczne, pełne bólu teksty Havena by naprawdę docenić ten album.

Artysta jeszcze lepiej brzmi, gdy w Heaven Sent zamienia gitarę na pianino, a wyraźny wokal na szepty. A brzmi jakby odnalazł się dawno zapomniany kawałek iLiKETRAiNS z czasów, gdy jeszcze tak się ich zapisywało. Natomiast szczyty emocjonalnej dosadności osiąga w All The Flowers Are On Fire, monumentalnej balladzie na eteryczne chóry i noise zamykającej płytę. Idealna.

SineRider - Four Years Away (2018) PL

SineRider to solowy projekt amerykańskiego kompozytora Devina Powersa. Aż trudno wymienić w ilu projektach udzielał się muzyk i ile muzycznych gatunków uskuteczniał. Najważniejsze natomiast, że na nowym albumie, Four Years Away, Powers pokazał kawał klimatycznego ambientu.

Jego nowa płyta to nowe kompozycje tworzące ambient gęsty i przestrzenny jak noc za oknem jadącego pociągu. I tak jak ona jednocześnie usypiają i zachwycają mocą. Muzyka zrobiona za pomocą nachodzących na siebie warstw synthu, przenikających się ech i w końcu minimalistycznych melodii jednocześnie brzmi smutno jak i podnosi na duchu w długie, zimowe wieczory.

SineRider - Four Years Away (2018) EN

SineRider is a sole project from the American composer, Devin Powers. It's almost impossible to list all the projects the musician was involved in  and all the genres he tried. The most important thing though is that on his new album, Four Years Away, Powers shows a really classy dose of atmospheric ambient.

This new album comprises of new compositions creating ambient so dense and spacious like a night behind the windows of a moving train. And just like it, they calm down and inspire at the same time. This music is made of overlapping synth layers, interpenetrating echoes and minimal melodies and it sounds both sad and hopefully in those long, winter nights.

Echoes of the Soul - In an Ocean of Shipwrecks (2018) EN

Classically neoclassical music from France, Echoes of the Soul is a one man project and it's not without this amateur vibe, but also is greatly engaging. Whoever the author is, has already released quite a lot of material and the newest addition is an album called In an Ocean of Shipwrecks.

The album is filled with piano music "with influences from Post-Rock, Progressive, Minimalist music". Those influences are also tangible in the omnipresent samples from movie dialogues and the choice of the sources is not super obvious as the artist reached to Dark Knight in The Soldiers of an Endlesss Eclipse or von Trier's Melancholia amongst others (also to Chaplin's Dictator which is one obvious choice for a change)

All the same, the samples lead the audience through the album that "is about all the violence and the sadness that we all, humans, cause and experience amongst the other beings, on Earth". So it's a kind of music rather to think to than relax (especially when Chaplin shouts out his famous monologue). And it's appreciated.

Echoes of the Soul - In an Ocean of Shipwrecks (2018) PL

Klasycznie neoklasyczna muzyka z Francji, Echoes of the Soul to projekt jednoosobowy i niepozbawiony amatorskiego ducha, ale wciąż wspaniale wciągający. Ktokolwiek jest twórcą, wydał już dużo materiału, a ostatnim pełnowymiarowym albumem jest In an Ocean of Shipwrecks.

Płyta wypełniona jest muzyką fortepianu "z wpływami post-rocka, muzyki progresywnej i minimalistycznej". Te objawiają się również wszechobecnymi samplami z produkcji filmowych i nie są to oczywiste wybory, bo artysta sięga między innymi po Mrocznego Rycerza w The Soldiers of an Endlesss Eclipse czy Melancholię von Triera (a także, co jest już bardzo oczywistym wyborem, Dyktatora Chaplina).

Tak czy inaczej to te sample prowadzą słuchaczy przez płytę, która "opowiada o przemocy i smutku, które my ludzie tworzymy i rozpowszechniamy wśród innych stworzeń na Ziemi". Jest więc bardziej do przemyśleń niż do relaksu (zwłaszcza gdy Chaplin wykrzykuje swój sławny monolog). I bardzo wartościowa.

Amplidyne Effect - Gloria on Canvas (2018) EN

Amplidyne Effect (which is a science term connected to electricity generation) is a project by Macedonian multimedia artist Martin Georgievski. Amongst many of his enterprises and albums, appeared a new one called "Gloria on Canvas".

Its name is connected to the artist's inspirations he clarifies as "composition and the artistic movements of nature that we can only experience through forms, canvas and sound." Georgievski's music travels around the broad spectre of alternative electronic music with elements of ambient, drone and neoclassical sounds. Plus, there surely is a lot of the biological sound created by living organisms on his newest album too.

Amplidyne Effect (czyli efekt ampidyny, która jest z kolei rodzajem prądnicy) to projekt macedońskiego artysty multimedialnego Martina Georgievskiego. Wśród wielu jego projektów i albumów, pojawił się ostatnio nowy, "Gloria on Canvas".

Nawiązuje on nazwą do inspiracji artysty, którą ujmuje jako "kompozycja i artystyczny ruch natury, które uchwycić możemy tylko przez formy, płótno i dźwięki". Muzyka Georgievskiego porusza się po szerokim spektrum alternatywnej elektroniki z elementami ambientu, drone'u i muzyki neoklasycznej. Na nowej płycie jest też na pewno dużo z biologicznego brzmienia żywych organizmów.

Józef, Zofia - Chłodna pasywna głowa (2017) EN

Ciche Nagrania recordings (Quiet... Recordings in Polish) from Poznań have just released an album by Józef and Zofia (it's probably Józef Buchnajzer, the leader of the publishing house). Their motto says "quieter, slower, less" and this music couldn't get a more fitting description.

"Chłodna pasywna głowa" ("A Cool, Passive Head") is a compilation of thoughts poured into an uncanny world of sounds that forces people to contemplate it and look into themselves. Into their own passive heads. This ambient music is minimal in the best way possible. With occasional instance of drone and field recording. To use when you need a quiet recording

Józef, Zofia - Chłodna pasywna głowa (2017) PL

Poznańskie Ciche Nagrania wydały właśnie płytkę Józefa i Zofii (zapewne chodzi o Józefa Buchnajzera, dowodzącego wydawnictwem). Hasłem przewodnim jest tutaj "ciszej, wolniej, mniej" i nie dałoby się trafniej określić tej muzyki.

"Chłodna pasywna głowa" to zbiór myśli wpuszczonych w przedziwny dźwiękowy świat nastrajający słuchaczy do kontemplacji i spojrzenia wgłąb siebie. Wgłąb swych pasywnych głów. Ambient jest minimalistyczny w najlepszym tego słowa znaczeniu, z okazjonalnym drone'em czy field recording. Gdy potrzebujesz cichego nagrania.
