Never, jeden z wielu projektów o tej nazwie i zdecydowanie najnowszy, to zespół z Brooklynu, który gra bardzo eteryczny i bleusowy dream pop. Zadebiutowali we wrześniu EP-ką We Will Collide i to się nazywa dobry debiut.

Płytę otwiera ich pierwszy singiel Sunken Wreck będący spokojną, niespieszną, snującą się jak płynąca magma balladą, w której wokale brzmią bardzo blues-rockowo czy też nawet w stronę Americany, podczas gdy muzyczne tło to eteryczny, przepełniony chórkami, najwyższej jakości dream pop. I tak można zdefiniować całą krótką płytę. Senna atmosfera, pękające serca w słowach i wynikające z tego słodko-gorzkie piękno. Bardzo ciekawi mnie dalsza kariera Amerykanów.

A.A. Williams - Forever Blue (2020) PL

Dopiero co widziałem ją na koncercie w Warszawie w zeszłym roku, dopiero co wydała EP-kę razem z MONO, teraz ukazuje się w końcu jej długogrający debiut Forever Blue. Trzeba przyznać, że Brytyjka A.A. Williams bierze szturmem gitarową scenę.

Zgodnie z tytułem, album aż ocieka smutną, melancholijną a miejscami wręcz depresyjną atmosferą. Artystka bierze co najlepsze z dokonań takich artystek jak Chelsea Wolfe, takich gatunków jak mroczny amerykański blues ale aranżuje wszystko po swojemu. Weźmy otwierający album All I Asked For (Was to End It All), w którym potężna dawka eterycznej muzyki współgra z riffami bardzo rockowej gitary i wokalem Williams - spokojnym, cichutkim, jakby wypranym z emocji, a jednocześnie tak bardzo smutnym i poruszającym.

Ogromne wrażenie robią te najsmutniejsze kawałki na czele z Dirt. Artystka potrafi wzruszać bez bycia cringe'ową i kiczowatą, a to nie zawsze jest oczywiste. Zwraca uwagę również Fearless, którego gitary można uznać już za głośne i bardzo post-rockowe, wokale zamieniają się w metalowy growl a przy tym całość nie traci nic ze swojego klimatu.

A.A. Williams - Forever Blue (2020) EN

I just saw her on the Warsaw gig last year, she just released an EP together with MONO and now she shows her long play debut Forever Blue. You've got to admit that the British artist A.A. Williams takes the guitar scene by storm.

As the title suggests, the album is soaking with sad, melancholic and oftentimes simply depressing atmosphere. The artist takes what's best from artists such as Chelsea Wolfe and genres such as dark American blues but stirs it and rearranges in her own fashion. Let's take the album's opening track All I Asked For (Was to End It All) in which a huge dose of ethereal music goes together with very rock-like guitar riffs and Williams' vocals - calm, quiet, somewhat emotionless but at the same time sad and touching.

The saddest songs make the biggest impression here, like for example Dirt. The artist is able to move without being cringe-worthy or kitschy and it's something that's not always obvious. Another track that draws attention is Fearless the guitars of which can be counted as loud and post-rock-like, vocals turn into metal growl and at the same time maintains everything what's great atmosphere-wise.

Medicine Boy - Take Me with You When You Disappear (2020) PL

Medicine Boy to zespół, który zrobił na mnie niesamowite wrażenie w czasie Spacefestu 2018, a ich płyta Lower to jedno z najwyżej przeze mnie ocenianych wydawnictw w ogóle. Wiosną tego roku gruchnęła wieść, że duet kończy współpracę, na szczęście na osłodzenie tego rozstania żegna się z widownią płytą Take Me with You When You Disappear .

Wracamy więc do krainy rządzonej przez aksamitne wokale Lucy Kruger i Andre Leo i ich powolną, mroczną muzykę. Tak jak pamiętamy z poprzednich albumów, można ją określić jako wypadkową dark folku, slowcore'u i blues-rocka spod znaku The Kills. Kiedy trzeba, Kruger pokazuje pazury (Berlin Sky!) ale częściej balansuje na granicy oniryzmu i mrocznego smutku (przepiękne zwłaszcza w Rag Doll).

Czasem pazurów dostają również gitary i wtedy czuć duszną atmosferę południa USA. Zespół żegna się nadzwyczaj agresywnym i chłoszczącym uszy Vapour Voice i spokojnym smutkiem w Venom Song. A ogólnie płytą, w której najwięcej jest, całkiem zresztą odpowiednio, melancholijne atmosfery.

Medicine Boy are a band that made a huge impression on me during Spacefest 2018 in Gdańsk and their album Lower is one of my highest ranked releases ever. This spring they suddenly announced that the band is going to be dissolved but fortunately, this fact is being sweetened by a new album called Take Me with You When You Disappear .

SO we're back to the realm ruled by the velvet vocals of Lucy Kruger and Andre Leo and their slow, dark music. Just as we remember from the previous albums, we can call it a mixture od dark folk, slowcore and blues rock with The Kills vibes. When necessary, Kruger can show her claws (Berlin Sky!) but usually balances on the verge of oneiric atmosphere and gloomy melancholy (which is especially beautiful in Rag Doll).

Sometimes the claws are also shown by the guitars and then there's clear climate of the US' south audible. The band says their good byes with en especially angry and ear-whipping song Vapour Voice and the peaceful sadness in Venom Song. And in general with an album that is, quite fittingly, mostly focused on the melancholic vibes.

Cult Junkie - The End Is Dear (2020) EN

The Louisiana-based duo Jerry Lee II - Jacob Disedare once again on my blog this year. his time with their EP called The End Is Dear. Good thing the Americans said B after saying A as their psychedelic music makes a great impression.

Their music makes psychedelia times two: experimental compositions, crazy riffs but also minimalist instrumental line up with clear American South's vibes. The artists are not worried about going into the unknown, melodies are not the most important thing in the world and the main goal is to create some unique sounds. There's a lot form the American blues-rock: characteristic guitars and not really hasty pace. And also the expressive and very pleasant vocals, especially in the single track Boas from the Inside, the whole album worth checking out.

Luizjański duet Jerry Lee II - Jacob Disedare jeszcze raz w tym roku na moim blogu, tym razem z EP-ką The End Is Dear. Dobrze, że Amerykanie poszli za ciosem bo ich psychodeliczna muzyka robi duże wrażenie.

Ich muzyka jest psychodelą do kwadratu: eksperymentalne kompozycje, zwariowane riffy, ale też minimalistyczne instrumentarium w stylu amerykańskiego południa. Artystom nie straszne jest zagłębianie się w nieznane, melodie nie są dla nich święte, a głównym celem jest oryginalne brzmienie. Dużo jest zwłaszcza wzięta z amerykańskiego blues-rocka, charakterystyczne gitary i niezbyt szybkie tempo. Plus ekspresywny i wcale przyjemny wokal, zwłaszcza w singlowym Boas from the Inside, album na plus.
