Hello1103 & Gargle - Angraecum (2020) PL

Dwa niezwykłe zespoły, w wielu miejscach podobne, ale w równie wielu oryginalne, spotkały się na jednym splicie. To zawsze dobra informacja, a Angraecum jest w dodatku naprawdę dobrym albumem (chociaż niezbyt długim), który sprawia że spotykają się Hello1103 i Gragle z Japonii.

Ten pierwszy to duet artystów znanych jako Hitomi i yukako. Oparty na delikatnym noisie i klawiszach potrafi zabrać w eteryczną podróż mimo dość minimalistycznej estetyki. Tak jak w otwierającym split kawałku Evergreen. Gargle, którzy pojawili się już na moim blogu z płytą Wading in Shallow Waters, to również duet  Minowa - Satoshi Ikeda. Ich trochę bardziej zróznicowana muzyka niezwykła jest przede wszystkim dzięki wkomponowaniu akordeonu w ich eteryczny post-klasycyzm.

Płyta to "kolekcja inspirowanych >modlitwą< dźwiękowych rozkoszy " i faktycznie można odnieść wrażenie, że muzycy chcieli stworzyć coś, co byłoby uduchowione jak tylko się da. Z drugiej strony nie ma w  tym za grosz przesady i patosu - wręcz przeciwnie, czuć wyraźnie duch minimalizmu, który ustępuje jedynie wszechobecnej eteryczności.

Hello1103 & Gargle - Angraecum (2020) EN

Two uncanny bands, similar in many places but also both unique, met on one split album. It's always good new and Angraecum really is a good album as well (although it's not very long) that made it possible to combine Japan's Hello1103 and Gragle.

The former is a duo made of Hitomi and yukako. Based on delicate noise and keys, it is able to take the audience on an ethereal journey even if with somewhat minimalist aesthetics. Just like in the split's first track Evergreen. Gargle, who already appeared on my blog with the album Wading in Shallow Waters, is also a duo, consisting of Minowa and Satoshi Ikeda. Their a bit more diverse music is unique first of all due to the incorporation of the accordion sounds into their airy post-classicism.

The album makes a "collection of >prayer< themed auditory bliss" and indeed, you can say that the musicians wanted to create something as spiritual as possible. On the other hand, there's no exaggeration and bombast, quite contrary, the spirit of minimalism is clearly audible and make way only to the omnipresent ethereality.

Gargle - Wading in Shallow Waters (2018) EN

Gargle, an instrumental music duet from Tokyo, in their sound combines post-rock with neoclassical music and instruments (like piano or accordion) to "transmit a vivid story with a touch of melancholy". The way I see it, the touch on their second album "Wading in Shallow Waters" makes a heavy punch. 

The melancholic grandeur or melancholic drone, everything's an option for Gargle. Sometimes they seem to reach for the highest pinnacles ("Hibernation") while sometimes they look for inspiration in almost ambient sounds (the first part of "Desert Bloom"). What's interesting is that they found it also in Dostoevsky's novel "Notes From Underground", and the poem inspired by the book is cited in "Morphine". The most interesting instrument used by the Japanese clearly is the accordion, something unique and non-obvious, but capable of creating unparalleled atmosphere (especially in the dark "A Prelude to Nightfall").

he album is essentially closed in an absolutely orchestral manner in "Distanced", and one can hardly believe it's only two people making this music, and they do it also live! This is one great combination of the orchestral grandeur and the post-rock melancholy. Or the other way round.

Gargle - Wading in Shallow Waters (2018) PL

Gargle, instrumentalny duet z Tokio łączy w swoim brzmieniu post-rock z muzyką neoklasyczną i takimi instrumentami (m.in. pianino i akordeon) tak by "przekazać żywe historie ze szczyptą melancholii". Jak na mój gust ta szczypta na ich drugim albumie "Wading in Shallow Waters" jest naprawdę pokaźna.

Melancholijny rozmach czy też melancholijny drone, dla Gargle wszystko jest możliwe. Czasem na płycie sięgają górskich szczytów ("Hibernation"), a czasem szukają inspiracji w ponurych, prawie ambientowych dźwiękach (pierwsza część "Desert Bloom"). Co ciekawe, inspiracją była również powieść Dostojewskiego "Notatki z podziemia", a inspirowany nią poemat słychać deklamowany w "Morphine". W instrumentarium Japończyków najciekawszym elementem wydaje się być akordeon, dodatek nieoczywisty i rzadko spotykany, a potrafiący zbudować znakomity klimat (najlepiej to słychać w mrocznym "A Prelude to Nightfall").

Album zamyka prawdziwie orkiestralny "Distanced", aż trudno uwierzyć, że projekt to naprawdę tylko dwie osoby, które przecież występują też z tym repertuarem live! Znakomite doprawdy skojarzenie rozmachu orkiestry i melancholii post-rocka. Albo na odwrót.
