In the Absence of Words - Ascension (2019) EN

Almost a year after his last release, the Swedish artist known as In the Absence of Words had in mind finally creating a long-play album, but it "became too arduous. I liked the idea of having a complete body of work but it became too stifling". This is how the new EP, Ascension, was born.

In the Swede's music there's wind, crunching snow and open wilderness of Scandinavia audible. Those guitar-based soundscapes enchant with slow pace and extremely melancholic taste. No wonder, as the long-play was supposed to be telling a story of "searching for spirituality, meditation and transcendence". It's true especially about the album's last - utterly peaceful and droning Hollow Realm.

Prawie rok od ostatniego wydawnictwa, szwedzki artysta ukrywający się pod nazwą In the Absence of Words miał zamiar wydać w końcu album długogrający, jednak "okazało się to zbyt żmudne. Podobał mi się pomysł by stworzyć kompletną całość z moich prac, ale okazało się to zbyt krępujące". Tak zrodziła się nowa EP-ka Ascension.

W muzyce Szweda słychać wiatr, skrzypiący mróz i otwarte przestrzenie Skandynawii. Te gitarowe soundscape'y potrafią zauroczyć powolnym tempem i bardzo melancholijnym posmakiem. Nic dziwnego, bo album długogrający, którym miała początkowo być EP-ka pomyślany był jako opowiadający o "poszukiwaniu duchowości, medytacji i transcendencji". To prawdziwe zwłaszcza jeśli chodzi o ostatni na płycie, ultra-spokojny i dronujący Hollow Realm.

In The Absence Of Words to projekt człowieka, który chociaż na co dzień para się pracą ze słowami, odkrył, że niektórych emocji nie da się nimi opisać. Zamiast tego, opisuje je dźwiękami. Jak sam przyznaje, chodzi o zachwyt naturą, miłość czy utrata kogoś szczególnego. Bardzo mądra taktyka. W lipcu wydał on trzy krótkie krążki, które zebrałem w tym poście do kupy.

Rozdział I został nagrany w najtrudniejszym etapie życia artysty. Trzeba przyznać, że jego wizje są bardzo mroczne. Mają w sobie dużo ze skandynawskiej surowości, która ukazana jest także w grafikach na okładkach płyt. Słychać dużo szelestów, delikatnego noise'u i ludzkich głosów, gdzieś na granicy słyszalności. 

Rozdział II to powrót po latach, zainspirowany myślą, że wraz z nowym, nadchodzi utrata starego. W końcu rozdział III pokazuje pogodzenie z tą myślą.

In The Absence of Words - I, II, III (2017) EN

In The Absence Of Words is a project by an artist who on every day basis deals with words and who discovered that there are emotions that cannot be described in this way. So instead he began to express them as sounds. As he admits, it's mostly about the awe over nature, love or loss of someone special. Very smart decision. He published two mini albums in July and I put them together in this post.

Chapter I was recorded in the hardest, darkest part of the artist's life. And his visions really are dark here. There's a lot of the Scandinavian harshness that is shown also on the albums covers. There is a lot of rustlings, delicate noise and human voices somewhere on the border of being audible.

Chapter II is a come back that happened years after the first two parts, inspired by the thought that together with the new things coming, the old ones are bound to be lost. Chapter III shows coming to terms with this concept.
