Moxa - The Harvest (2018) EN

Another German post-rock band that appears on ŁŚ. After Magma Waves, Noorvik and others, this time it's all about the very guitar instrumentally cinematic music from Leipzig. Moxa have released their first long play in November.

The band underwent some line-up changes and now function as a trio (so the picture is not valid anymore) and this resulted in changes in the style as well. It's darker and more aggressively guitar now and I consider it a plus. There is more raw riffs and bass-based compositions. But at the same time, Moxa's music still sounds very spacious. Especially in Bad (H)Ombre where there is an addition of violins sounds, thanks to guest appearance by Tanja Goldbecher.

The Germans drew their inspirations from Hindi sacred texts, literature (H.P. Lovecraft in Yog Sothoth) and controversial personalities (Robert Oppenheimer) and it's shown not only in the song titles or samples. Just as post-rock collectives often do, the artists are keen to write about serious issues in, perhaps, a bit pompous way. Among them, the album includes tracks about "the threat of mass-extinction and the current development of mankind into fatal directions". Very post-rock and very up-to-date.

Kolejny niemiecka post-rockowa kapela, która pojawia się na ŁŚ. Po między innymi Magma Waves i Noorviku, pora na bardzo gitarową muzykę instrumentalno-kinową z Lipska. Moxa wydala jeszcze w listopadzie swoją debiutancką płytę długogrającą.

Zespół przeszedł zmiany osobowe i stał się triem (zdjęcie jest więc nieaktualne), a to pociągnęło za sobą zmiany w stylu. Ten stał się mroczniejszy i bardziej drapieżny, co uważam za zmianę na korzyść. Więcej jest surowych gitarowych riffów i kompozycji opartych na basie. A jednocześnie muzyka Moxy wciąż brzmi przestrzennie. Zwłaszcza, gdy w Bad (H)Ombre pojawiają się gościnnie skrzypce dzięki Tanji Goldbecher.

Inspiracje Niemców sięgają  hinduskich świętych tekstów, literatury (H.P. Lovecraft w Yog Sothoth) czy kontrowersyjnych osobistości (Robert Oppenheimer), co przejawia się nie tylko w tytułach i samplach. Tak jak to post-rockowe kolektywy mają w zwyczaju, Niemcy nie uciekają od pisania o poważnych problemach w być może trochę pompatyczny sposób. Wśród nich na płycie znalazło się "zagrożenie masowym wymieraniem i rozwój ludzkości obecnie skierowany wyjątkowo śmiercionośnie.". Bardzo post-rockowe i bardzo aktualne.
