Accasari / Res Magnifica - Split (2019) EN

I consider the Russian Accasari for one of the masters of overflowing ambient-noise sounds. This time they released a really well done split with the next-to-unknown Latvian project Res Magnifica.

The first, Latvian part of the album consists of not really unique but quite engaging, gloomy and slow drone. It's also not too loud so can easily be listened to at nights without having to deal with angry neighbours. Similarly the Russian part, but at the same time you can here a different approach here. The music here comes in waves and mesmerizes the audience and it's not an easy task to do. Anyway, a solid dose of good drone.

Rosyjskie Accasari uznaję za jednych ze speców od nawarstwiających się ambientowo-noise'owych dźwięków. Tym razem wydali bardzo udany split z mało znanym łotewskim projektem Res Magnifica.

Pierwsza, łotewska część albumu to może mało odkrywczy, ale dość wciągający, ponury i powolny drone. Nie jest on też zbyt głośny, więc spokojnie można puszczać nocami i nie martwić się o sąsiadów. Podobnie z rosyjską częścią, ale słychać trochę inne podejście. Tutaj muzyka faluje i hipnotyzuje nie pozwalając się od siebie oderwać, a to trzeba umieć. Tak czy inaczej, solidna dawka porządnego drone'u.

Ruby Haunt - The Middle of Nowhere (2019) EN

The California-based band appears on the blog every time they come up with something new. And no wonder as the Victor Pakpour-Wyatt Ininns duo like not much other projects is capable of creating the most delicate dream pop. Their new release is called The Middle of Nowhere.

I keep saying this but it's worth it: Ruby Haunt's music is one of the most subtle dream pops, perhaps on the same level as Cigarette After Sex, but slower and less catchy. Instead, filled with the breathtaking atmosphere of melancholia and autumn mist. Still, it doesn't matter there's no tracks that stand out on the album as there are for example Curtain Call, impressing with synth sounds Answering Machine or charmingly mesmerizing Tire Fire. Ruby Haunt don't slow down their career and virtually each year show something that is melancholically fantastic and definitely worth attention.

Duet z Kalifornii pojawia się na blogu za każdym razem, gdy skonstruują coś nowego. I nie ma co się dziwić, bo duet Victor Pakpour-Wyatt Ininns jak niewiele innych zespołów potrafi tworzyć nadzwyczaj delikatny dream pop. Najnowsza ich produkcja nazywa się The Middle of Nowhere.

Powtarza to za każdym razem, ale warto: muzyka Ruby Haunt to jeden z najbardziej delikatnych dream popów, być może na poziomie Cigarette After Sex, ale wolniejszy i mniej przebojowy. Za to zachwycający gęstą atmosferą pełną melancholii i jesiennej mgły. Nie znaczy to, że na płycie nie ma utworów zapadających w pamięć. Na pewno takimi są Curtain Call, zachwycający dźwiękami syntezatorów Answering Machine czy uroczo hipnotyzujące Tire Fire. Ruby Haunt nie zwalniają tempa i praktycznie co roku tworzą kolejną, melancholijno-fantastyczną i warta uwagi rzecz.

Rev Rev Rev - Kykeon (2019) EN

Finally. The new album from my Italian friends is released and successfully continues the good impression left after Des fleurs magiques bourdonnaient. 

Kykeon from the very beginning shows what reverb-soaked, old-school shoegaze (reminding me more of the early MBV than any nugaze) is about. The album is all about "exploring the obscure. It’s a ritual descent into the underworld, but also a flight through the cold spaces amid the stars". It is achieved with the dense, guitar backgrounds that leave nothing to see in between apart from the effects appearing from time to time on them and making them look even prettier.

The Italians are keen on the using of the barely audible vocals and less of the melodic and more of the noisy atmosphere. Obviousl, the listener has to like these aesthetics but I'd say it's closer to the shoegaze ideal as stated in the 90s. Especially in tracks such as the single one Clutching the Blade or One Illusion Is Very Much Like Another.

W końcu jest. Nowa płyta moich przyjaciół z Włoch nareszcie się ukazała i udanie kontynuuje świetne wrażenie po Des fleurs magiques bourdonnaient. 

Kykeon od samego początku pokazuje o co chodzi w nasączonym przesterami, old-schoolowym (przypominającym mi w brzmieniu bardziej stary MBV niż cokolwiek nugaze'owego) shoegaze'ie. Album zajmuje się "eksplorowaniem tego, co utajone. Jest rytualnym opuszczeniem się w podziemie, ale też lotem pośród zimnych przestrzeni między gwiazdami". Pomagają w tym zdecydowanie geste gitarowe tła, spomiędzy których trudno cokolwiek zobaczyć oraz pojawiające się na nich od czasu do czasu umilające czas efekty.

Włosi od początku stawiają na ledwo słyszalny wokal i mniej melodyjności, a więcej noisowej atmosfery. Oczywiście, należy lubić taką estetykę, ale wydaje się, że jest ona bliższa shoegaze'owego ideału nakreślonego w latach 90. Zwłaszcza w kawałkach takich jak singlowy Clutching the Blade czy One Illusion Is Very Much Like Another.

Hexa - Sigil Sine (2019) EN

The band focused around Carrie Gillespie Feller, who writes lyrics and music, plays synths and sings, have released their debut album. And you have to say that this Californian darkwave on Sigil Sine has a lot of charm.

The quartet of the dark women show a really dark and at the same time catchy music. Feller's vocals create a lot of this atmosphere once being almost whispering and climatic only to change into almost punk-like and cocky. Sometimes within a few seconds in one track. Another thing is that in the traditional darkwave music based on the impressive synths, in The Trees the audience can find also perfectly fitting cello sounds and finally also surprisingly heavy guitar.

Perhaps even more interesting are the collaborative works with Mexico's Jung Sing and Tristan Shone known as Author & Punisher. In both cases, the goth accompaniment of the male vocal makes me think of the traditional gothic bands and the dialog with the dark but also very feminine voice of Feller, also of some more maintsream indie rock like The Kills.

Zespół skupiony wokół Carrie Gillespie Feller, która pisze teksty, komponuje muzykę, gra na syntezatorze i śpiewa, wydał swoją debiutancką płytę. I trzeba przyznać, że kalifornijski darkwave na Sigil Sine ma swój urok.

Kwartet mrocznych kobiet pokazuje naprawdę mroczną i jednocześnie chwytliwą muzykę. Wokal Feller tworzy mnóstwo tego klimatu, raz jest niemal szepczący i klimatyczny, raz wręcz punkowo zadziorny. Czasami w przeciągu kilku sekund jednego utworu. Do tego oprócz tradycyjnie darwave'owej muzyki opartej na efektownych syntezatorach, w The Trees dochodzi świetnie komponująca się wiolonczela, a w końcu również zaskakująco ciężka gitara elektryczna.

Być może jeszcze ciekawsza jest współpraca zespołu z Jung Singiem z Meksyku i Tristanem Shone'em znanym jako Author & Punisher. W obu przypadkach gotycki akompaniament męskiego wokalu przywodzi na myśl tradycyjnie gotyckie kapele, a dialog z mrocznym ale bardzo kobiecym głosem Feller - nawet bardziej mainstreamowo indie rockowe, takie jak The Kills.

Big Dead - Bone White Branches (2019) EN

Big Dead debuted three years ago with a short album Shell and it met with a great response from the audience. Now they go further with a really long-play album called Bone White Branches.

The Australians' music can't be unambiguously defined. Fortunately we are helped by the artists themselves saying that they play "original compositions influenced by the art rock, jazz and electronic sound-worlds" i dalej, "(they) swap between synths and saxophones, lilting vocals and punching drums, crafting songs that sound foreign yet somehow feel familiar". In short: absolute, lively and super rich psychedelia meeting melancholic vocals and dream pop compositions.

Very shoegaze aura is also present in those tracks where the music comes to the clearly jazzy territory both in the ballad ones like Reside and in those more bar-like relaxing ones Petrichor.

Big Dead debiutowali trzy lata temu krótką płytą Shell, co spotkało się z życzliwym przyjęciem. Teraz idą za ciosem pokazując swój pierwszy naprawdę długo-grający album Bone White Branches.

Muzykę Australijczyków trudno jednoznacznie sklasyfikować. Trochę pomagają opisy samego zespołu: "własne kompozycje inspirowane art rockiem, jazzem i elektronicznymi światami" i dalej, "lawirują między synthami i saksofonem, melodyjnymi wokalami i uderzeniami perkusji, tworząc piosenki brzmiące obco, a zarazem jakoś znajomo". W skrócie: absolutna, rozbrykana i przebogata psychodelia spotyka melancholijny wokal i dreampopowe kompozycje.

Bardzo shoegaze'ową aurę mają też kawałki , w których muzyka wkracza wyraźnie na jazzowe terytorium, zarówno te bardziej balladowe jak Reside, czy autentycznie barowo-relaksacyjne jak Petrichor.

Zguba - Potwarz (2019) EN

Zguba is a Polish artist residing in Bulgaria. This fact alone makes it already interesting. But there's more, he creates a great quality neoclassical ambient. You have to listen to it on his second album called Potwarz.

The album was released by the Polish Opus Elefantum Collective and you have to admit that the label is present all over it with guest appearing Foghornu, or Tomasz Turski (who also released an album not long ago) and Maciej Jurga (known from Vysoké Čelo) who created the cover art. The artist's music offers a lot of good stuff: beautiful instruments, slow and climatic pace, experiment and mystery in Raróg and finally also aggressive and industrial vibes of the title track Potwarz. And although the music here is mostly reflexive, there's no way to get bored listening to the album. Especially during the closing track Szlam.

Zguba - Potwarz (2019) PL

Zguba to polski artysta rezydujący w Bułgarii. Już samo to jest interesujące. A dodajmy, ze tworzy znakomitej jakości neoklasyczny ambient i więcej nie trzeba. Trzeba za to posłuchać jego drugiej płyty zatytułowanej Potwarz.

Płytę wydało Opus Elefantum Collective i trzeba przyznać, że wytwórnia obecna jest na płycie bardzo mocno w postaci Foghornu, czyli Tomasza Turskiego (też niedawno wydał nową płytę) i Macieja Jurgi (znanego z Vysoké Čelo), który stworzył okładkę. W muzyce artysty jest wiele dobrego: piękne instrumentarium, powolne, klimatyczne tempo, eksperyment i zagadkowość w Rarogu, a w końcu też agresywną, industrialną oprawę w tytułowej Potwarzy. Mimo, że jest to muzyka raczej skłaniająca do refleksji, nie sposób się przy niej nudzić. Zwłaszcza przy zamykajacym całość Szlamie.

Timothy Fairless - Sum (2019) EN

The multi-talented Timothy Fairless in his career dealt with movie soundtracks and supporting oter artists on stage. His own repertoire showed five years ago and today comes back with his rich music on the EP called Sum.

Fairless is an artist who "processes acoustic, electronic and environmental sources to near oblivion". And exactly like that, he's very skillful in going straight from ultra-delicate ambient and neoclassicism to shocking noise. As in the EP's opening Wait for Zero where in the half point of the track there's an intriguing collapse and then swift rebuild. Similarly interesting is  Fistion Is Forever with its most delicate neoclassical ambient with time being enriched with nervous electronic pulsating only to become a true post-rock music at the end.

Timothy Fairless - Sum (2019) PL

W swojej wszechstronności Timothy Fairless zajmował się muzyką filmową, a czasem wspomaganiem innych artystów. Własnymi kompozycjami debiutował pięć lat temu, a dzisiaj pokazuje swój bogaty muzyczny repertuar na EP-ce Sum.

Fairless to artysta, który "przetwarza akustyczne, elektroniczne i środowiskowe dźwięki w stronę bliską zapomnienia". I faktycznie, potrafi on bardzo sprawnie przemieścić się od ultra delikatnego ambientu i neoklasyki po  szokujący noise. Tak jak w otwierającym EP-kę Wait for Zero, w  którym w połowie utworu następuje intrygujące załamanie, a potem odbudowanie. Podobnie ciekawy jest Fistion Is Forever z najbardziej delikatnym neoklasycznym ambientem z czasem wzbogacanym o nerwowe pulsowanie elektroniki i w końcu regularnie post-rockowe granie.

Tender Buttons - Of Course We Still Love You (2019) EN

They appeared on the blog almost a year ago with the single track Cry at Night. Now the Australians of Tender Buttons finally showed some more material and I can safely say that I wished it wasn't just an EP.

Of Course We Still Love You consists only of four tracks. It begins with Lie to Me, exceptionally intimate ballad in some places reminding me of The XX but combined with some dream pop tear-jerkers. And it's very fitting for their own words as they state that they create "bittersweet pop melodies". Two tracks we already know are Take a Little Time and Cry at Night. Both are somewhat modest hits that have delicate melodies and subtly optimistic and supporting the listener messages. The thing that sounds awesome in them is  Jessicca Bennett's vocal that sounds as if she sang without any effort but at the same time getting deeply down the souls.

Już prawie rok temu pojawili się na blogu z singlem Cry at Night. Teraz Australijczycy z Tender Buttons pokazali w końcu trochę więcej materiału i chciałoby się żeby to nie była tylko EP-ka.

Na Of Course We Still Love You zmieściły się tylko cztery utwory. Zaczyna ją Lie to Me, nadzwyczaj intymna ballada nasuwająca mi miejscami skojarzenia z The XX zmieszanymi z dreampopowym wyciskaczem łez. Zresztą zgadza się to z ich własnymi słowami, że tworzą "słodko-gorzkie popowe melodie". Dwa kawałki, które już znamy to Take a Little Time i Cry at Night. Dwa skromne hity o delikatnych melodiach i subtelnie optymistycznych i wspierających słuchacza przesłaniach. Zdecydowanie znakomicie brzmi w nich wokal Jessicki Bennett, która śpiewa jakby od niechcenia, a dociera bardzo głęboko.

Spirit and the Cosmic Heart - Memories (2019) EN

Those guys had been here already. Hailing from Florida, Spirit and the Cosmic Heart one and half year ago made me fall in love with their debut EP and now they continue doing so with another one called Memories.

Their somewhat psychedelic dream pop can easily be loved. There's some of the ethereal longing after the 90s and bands such as Lush or even Ride. On the other hand, the rich, sometimes sunny, sometimes darker, music has roots in the American psychedelia. Especially in tracks like Endlessly in which there's time and space for those kinds of trips.

Undoubtedly, the band are able to write some very catchy songs and the best one here in this is Lasso. Perhaps it's the time for a long-playing album?

Ci państwo już tutaj witali. Artyści z Florydy z Spirit and the Cosmic Heart półtorej roku temu urzekli mnie debiutancką EP-ką, a teraz kontynuują karierę kolejną, zatytułowaną Memories.

Ich lekko psychodeliczny dream pop może się podobać. Jest w nim trochę z tęsknoty za latami 90-tymi i takimi zespołami jak Lush czy nawet Ride. Z drugiej strony, bogata, czasem słoneczna, czasem mroczniejsza muzyka ma w sobie sporo amerykańskiej psychodelii. Zwłaszcza w takich kawałkach jak Endlessly, w których jest czas i miejsce na takie wycieczki. 

Bez wątpienia zespół potrafi pisać bardzo chwytliwe kawałki, tutaj najlepsze pod tym względem Lasso. Może teraz czas na długogrający album?

Narrative - Late Valediction (2019) EN

Once every a particularly even period of time, this blog is visited by yet another German post-rock band and they are always on a really good level. The Tübingen-based Narrative is no exception here and you can check it out on their very recent EP called Late Valediction.

They state that their music has no leading instrument but rather it's a result of even share of guitar, bass and drums sounds. As well as, and it's a common post-rock feature, samples functioning  in a way as a vocalist ersatz. The latter are here undoubtedly perfectly placed so that recorded monologues sound as if they were written particularly for the tracks on the album. Besides that, the Germans are kin on very hard, doom-esquely raw sound of guitars bringing a clear post-metal flavour to the whole thing. Definitely worth checking and assessing on your own.

Narrative - Late Valediction (2019) PL

Co jakiś czas, w bardzo równych odstępach, na blog witają kolejne post-rockowe kapele z Niemiec i zazwyczaj trzymają wysoki poziom. Nie inaczej jest z pochodzącymi z urokliwego Tübingen zespołem Narrative, który wydał bardzo niedawno EP-kę Late Valediction.

Piszą o sobie, ze w ich muzyce nie ma wiodącego instrumentu, a wynika ona z jednakowego udziału gitary, basu i perkusji. A także, jak w większości post-rockowych zespołów, sampli robiących robotę wokalisty. Bez wątpienia są one doskonale wkomponowane, tak że nagrane monologi brzmią jak stworzone specjalnie dla poszczególnych kawałków zespołu. Poza tym, Niemcy stawiają na bardzo twarde, doomowo szorstkie brzmienie gitary dodające całości wyraźnego posmaku post-metalu. Warto sprawdzić i ocenić.

Clouds Are Learning - Slow Cities and Fake Lights (2019) EN

Clouds Are Learning is a project by an Argentinian artist Leandro Liguori who single-handedly generates some really intimate and climatic ambient. He recently showed a piece of it on an EP called Slow Cities and Fake Lights. 

Liguori's neoclassicism-infused ambient offers atmosphere that can't be taken lightly. Especially when, going hand-to-hand with the cover art, it is complimented with rainy weather samples (in ironically titled Healed by the Sun) or by effects imitating rain or fire cracking in Empty Places. The most important thing though are the instrumental melodies, those made on the crying piano and those on tear-jerking strings. The whole things creates the delicate, sad and intimate atmosphere of a warm room during a rainy day.

Clouds Are Learning - Slow Cities and Fake Lights (2019) PL

Clouds Are Learning to argentyński artysta Leandro Liguori, który w pojedynkę generuję niezwykle intymny i klimatyczny ambient. Niedawno wydał jego próbkę na EP-ce Slow Cities and Fake Lights. 

Natchniony neoklasyką ambient Liguoriego prezentuje nie do przecenienia klimat. Zwłaszcza, gdy, do kompletu z cover artem, uzupełniają go nagrania deszczowej aury (w zatytułowanej na przekór kompozycji Healed by the Sun) albo efekty przypominające deszcz lub trzaskanie ognia w Empty Places. Najważniejsze są jednak wciąż instrumentalne melodie, te grane na płaczącym pianinie jak i te na wzruszających smyczkach. Wszystko to tworzy delikatną, smutną i intymną atmosferę ciepłego pokoju deszczowego dnia.

Gliss - In Utopia (2019) PL

Martin Klingman i Victoria Cecilia grają swój "popieprzony noise pop" jako Gliss. I za każdym razem, gdy wydają kolejną płytę pozostaje tylko się zachwycać. Tak właśnie jest ze świeżutkim In Utopia.

Krążek nagrywany w Los Angeles i w Berlinie ma w swoim założeniu pokazywać "miękkie podbrzusze" tych metropolii, zresztą sam tytuł na to wskazuje. Należy jednak dopatrzyć się w nim nieco ironii. Artyści inspirujący się takimi wykonawcami jak Beach House, Best Coast, czy The Kills podobnie jak na poprzednich albumach łączą zadziorność i rockowy brud z eterycznym shoegaze'em. A do tego dochodzi jeszcze sekcja smyczkowa w wykonaniu duetu Jennifer Cho i Christine Chung.

Płyta zaczyna się od nadzwyczaj efektownego Into the Night, który de facto narzuca ton całej reszcie. Jest i eterycznie i chwytliwie, a do tego z niepokojącą atmosferą nocnego życia miasta. Prawdziwych hiciorów jest bezliku, Broke Me, singlowe Downtown, ale też ballady jak Sister Moon czy It's OK. Płyta jest ich pełna.

Gliss - In Utopia (2019) EN

Martin Klingman and Victoria Cecilia make their "fucked up noise pop" as Gliss. And every time they release new stuff, you can only fall in love. As it is with their fresh album In Utopia.

The album recorded in Los Angeles and in Berlinie is supposed to show the "underbelly" of those metropolias, as the title itself suggests. Although there must be some irony in there. The artists inspired by the music by Beach House, Best Coast, and The Kills, just like on the previous releases, combines the cheek and dirt of rock with ethereality oh shoegaze. And there's also the string section by Jennifer Cho and Christine Chung.

The album begins with the extremely catchy Into the Night that functions as the atmosphere builder for the rest of the release. And it's airy and catchy plus the poignant atmosphere of the city by night. There's a lot of potential hits like Broke Me, the single track Downtown, and also ballads such as Sister Moon and It's OK. It's an albumfull of them.

Empty Life - Broken Ways (2019) EN

Alexander Nurnberg with his project Empty Life had appeared on the blog already earlier this year. He now comes back with a short but very good and intense EP.

Broken Ways, or a "mini-album of three songs with a bias on depressive rock", starts with a short one called Idiot Confession in which the shoegaze elements are mixed with hardcore atmosphere and the walls of guitar sound. The next two tracks are nowhere near slowing down. Psycho is based on more traditional guitar riffs and simple but very catchy chorus while Summer Ways wraps up the EP with fast and impressive instrumental composition.

Alexander Nurnberg ze swoim projektem Empty Life pojawił się już na blogu wcześniej w tym roku, teraz powraca z krótką, ale bardzo dobrą i intensywną EP-ką.

Broken Ways, czyli "mini-album zawierajacy trzy kawałki w stylu depresyjnego rocka" zaczyna się szybkim kawałkiem Idiot Confession, w którym shoegaze'owe elementy mieszają się z hardcorową atmosferą i ścianami gitar. Kolejne dwa kawałki w żaden sposób nie zaciągają hamulca. Psycho bazuje bardziej na tradycyjnych gitarowych riffach i prostym i wpadającym w ucho refrenie, a Summer Ways zamyka EP-kę szybką i efektowną instrumentalną kompozycją.

Anoice - Ghost in the Clocks (2019) EN

Soon after releasing the three part EP there/missing/unknown, the Japanese colllective from Ricco Label come back with their fifth long play called Ghost in the Clocks, recorded together with other important for the label personas: Takahiro Kido and Yuki Murata. 

One of the EP's tracks, missing, comes back also here and it's this mixture of sentimental strings, beautiful piano keys and unnerving samples is one of the best fragments of the album. But it's interesting even before it arrives, as the Japanese start with the especially atmospheric after the rain with its pretty much post-rock ambiance.

The neoclassical grandeur pinnacles are reached a couple of times on the album, among others in heroes where the tear-jerking strings are accompanied with almost marching drums, and in the monumental rebirth closing the album. This kind of compositions make me think that Anoice's music can easily be labeled neoclassical with truly post-rock soul.

Szybko po wydaniu trzyczęściowej EP-ki there/missing/unknown, japoński kolektyw z Ricco Label powraca ze swoją piątą płytą długogrającą zatytułowaną Ghost in the Clocks i nagraną wraz zinnymi ważnymi personami dla wytwórni: Takahiro Kido i Yuki Muratą. 

Właśnie missing pojawia się również na płycie długograjacej i to właśnie to połączenie sentymentalnych smyczków z pięknym pianinem i niepokojącymi samplami jest jednym z najlepszych na niej kawałków. Zanim jednak on się pojawia, Japończycy zaczynają z nadzwyczaj klimatycznym after the rain z zupełnie post-rockową pełną napięcia atmosferą.

Do szczytów neoklasycznej podniosłości Japończycy dochodzą między innymi w heroes, gdzie do wzruszających smyczków dochodzi niemal marszowa perkusje i w końcu w monumentalnym rebirth. Dzięki takim utworom, muzyce Anoice z pewnością można dokleić łatkę muzyki neoklasycznej z prawdziwie post-rockową duszą.

Gnoomes - MU! (2019) PL

Rosjanie z Permu tworzący jako Gnoomes to już pewna uznana marka na rosyjskiej scenie około-shoegaze'owej. W tym roku wydali chyba najdojrzalszy album MU!, którym można się zachwycać już od kilku miesięcy. Teraz w końcu i tutaj.

Zespół gra "sugestywną mieszankę psychodelicznego stargaze'u, kraut techno i kosmiche popu", ale najnowszy album postanowili zrobić "żywszy i mniej elektroniczny" aby "brzmieć dynamiczniej". Nagrany w starej posowieckiej radiostacji MU!, ujmuje unikalnym brzmieniem. Nie jest to kolejna płyta z muzyką między shoegaze'em a dream popem, a więcej tu eksperymentu, zimnej fali i kosmicznych wycieczek (tak jak w ultra interesującej Irmie).

A nawet jeśli niektóre utwory wydają się być bardziej konwencjonalne, tak jak Glasgow Coma State, z biegiem czasu rozwijają się w industrialno-post-rockowe kompozycje. To właśnie to industrialne, trochę czerpiące z klubowej atmosfery tempo w postaci szybkich i nerwowych bitów jest znakiem rozpoznawczym albumu. Może najbliżej tradycyjnego, old-schoolowego shoegaze'u spod znaku wczesnego Slowdive Rosjanie są w How Do You, a fakt, ze zachowali go na sam koniec świadczy, że celują raczej w około-shoegaze'owe eksperymenty.

Gnoomes - MU! (2019) EN

Perm-based Russians making music as Gnoomes must be considered as already well-established name on the Russian shoegaze-and-around scene. This year they released their probably most mature album yet called MU! which makes us fall in love for a couple months already, finally also here.

The band play "a potent mix of psychedelic stargaze, kraut techno and kosmiche pop", but they wanted to make their newest album "more live and less electronic" to "sound more dynamic". Recorded in an old post-soviet radio broadcast station, MU! inspires with its unique sound. It's not just another album filled with a blending of shoegaze and dream pop, but there's more of the experimental, coldwave and space trips (as in the super interesting Irmie).

And even if some tracks seem to be more conventional, just like Glasgow Coma State, with time they develop into industrial-post-rock compositions. Exactly this industrial, drawing a bit from the club atmosphere pace in form of fast and nervous beats is the album's characteristic trait. Perhaps  the most traditional, old-school, early-Slowdive-esque shoegaze can be found in How Do You, but even the fat hat the Russians saved it for the very end seems to prove that they'd rather work in shoegazish experiments instead.

Visions - Temples (2019) EN

Visions is a project by Frédéric Arbour, coming from Canada and residing in Berlin artist known from his collaboration with the Russian PHURPA, creates some extremely dark and dense ambient. His newest work is Temples, long and super atmospheric album.

It is advertised as "more grounded and melody based pieces", but it shouldn't mislead anyone. The artist's music is still very climatic, heavy from the overlapping layers and dark atmosphere ambient. It's also, and this is another quote, a "hymn to lost civilisations, and a gratitude for what can still be found and discovered from our predecessors". So the title's temples are the ones of the culture and the humanity's progress. It's worth diving into.

Visions to Frédéric Arbour, pochodzący z Kanady a rezydujący w Berlinie artysta znany ze współpracą z rosyjską PHURPĄ tworzy bardzo mroczny i gęsty ambient. Jego najnowsza kreacja to Temples, długogrająca, bardzo klimatyczna płyta.

Reklamowana jest jako "bardziej przyziemna i melodyjna", co jednak nikogo nie powinno zwieźć. Utwory artysty to wciąż bardzo klimatyczny, ciężki od nachodzących a siebie warstw i mrocznej atmosfery ambient. Jest to też, i tu kolejny cytat, "hymn dla zaginionych cywilizacji i wdzięczność za wszystko, co wciąż może być odkryte od naszych przodków". To więc takie świątynie, kultury i ludzkiego progresu, autor ma na myśli. Warto się zasłuchać.
