In the recent years, especially since the release of Deathconsciousness (and it's over a decade now!), when saying about post-punk crossed with shoegaze you think about Have a Nice Life. Fortunately, the Connecticut-based artists still release their music on Bandcamp so I have a pleasure to post about their new album Sea of Worry.
Raw, a bit lo-fi sounds of the first and title track Sea of Worry from the very beginning announce a really solid work. Cold ambiance and distanced, oftentimes screaming vocals makes a good summarize of the band's post-punk. However, in many fragments you can hear obvious links with Dan Barrett's second most famous project, Giles Corey - as in Science Beat in which the vocal is well behind the music and barely audible while the whole composition mesmerizes with its gloomy pace.
The track that deserves the attention most is Lords of Tresserhorn, similarly noise-chaotic but also finished with a loud tasty bit. While in general Giles Corey is more to my taste, the new release from Have a Nice Life can hardly be ignored.
